I'm setting up SUSE 11.4 for a Windows 7 laptop user who prefers Outlook 2007 which is a full-featured email client and I'm wondering what is the "closest" suse/KDE email client I can set up to make this person feel right at home.
View 3 RepliesI have an issue where postfix is setup to use dovecot auth and as far as I know it works, if i login using telnet to the mail server i can authorize myself y providing the base64 encoded user & password. so if i can login, why cant my email clients. have tried thunderbird and evolution. this is the mail.log relavant entries for sucessful login via telnet

Login by pop or imap works flawlessly that what i dont get. From what i see it SHOULD be working. It it changes things, im using postfixadmin, postfix, dovecot. passwords and info stored in mysql tables. passwords are md5 encrypted. I thought that may be the issue, but that dosnt make sence.
I've configured more email clients over the years than I care to mention so I am by no means a newbie at this so when I set up linux for a friend recently (10.10 on a laptop) I came across this problem, the install went wonderfully btw! The fix, long story short, if you are a sky broadband customer and are just setting up your email, you'll have a letter informing you of your email address, you log on to sky.com/resetpassword (or similar) enter some credentials and enter a password. This worked fine with the webmail, log in no problem, configuring a client (Thunderbird and Evolution) resulted in receiving a login failure with the message similar to 'credential failure' or words to that effect.
So after entering the password again and again, reading and re-reading the sky.com site instructions on setting the correct security settings, checking the correct ports, checking the correct settings to allow an IMAP connection from within the webmail interface and still getting no where I did this: logged into the webmail interface, then 'mail settings' > 'accounts' > then 'google account settings' then 'change password', this opens a sky.com reset password window. choose the my security question option and use this to enter a new password and this worked.
I suggest not using the 'my email address' and 'send an email with a reset link' option, this was attempted first and resulted in the same issue, new password set for the webmail but still not working with an email client. It seems that, and I'll be corrected by anyone who knows for sure, that their software is currently not updating all the passwords held if you use the 'reset password via email link'and neither did the initial setting up of the password work correctly either. My best guess is the passwords are going out of sync with their email servers not being updated correctly in all circumstances. Once I had reset the password as described it worked first time, so clearly there is something in this.

I have one local mail server hosted in Mdaemon in my office and ip is 192.168.10.2. My clients can't use the email from the outside. If they want to use the mail, they need to come to office. I want them to use from the outside. How can i set up the mail server. Do i need to host the server on the hosting? I want to synchronize with my local mail server. I don't have the public IP BTW.

View 9 Replies View RelatedUpgraded two machines to 11.3 in the past 2 weeks. NFS is broken on both, in different ways. The problem I'll mention here is that the nfs server is running, but clients can't connect.
The server is running:

It has a valid export list:

I've had NFS running on my local network for over a decade, and never had problems like this before.
I know WEP is frowned upon and enverone should be using WPA. And my hostapd AP is working with WPA clients. However, I would like to alow some older clients that can only "talk" WEP to connect. All my attempts so far have failed! Can anyone point me in the right direction? The hostapd.conf file comments suggests that hostapd can support WEP. There are no contraindications or flags that I can find in the defconfig file that suggest that a WEP module needs to be complied-in to the final make.

I have very slow write speed when copying file from Windows clients to Samba Share. Samba speed is slower than Windows native clients connections ?
On all of my xp clients no matter what the username is is I am continously getting the error saying that the profile cannot be found. I just built this domain recently and since day 1 the roaming profiles have not worked.

I have a fileserver running openSUSE 11.2 and samba services for file access from MS Windows based workstations. My question relates to changing default permissions on files and directories created from the windows clients.

The email client has to be text command based because I need to use command line to send notification email from anothar application installed in my Linux (Centos 5.1) Since the email client will only be used to send email notification, I don't require setting up of an email server in my linux.
Using CentOS. I have a cron setup to run this command: Code: /var/test.sh | mail -s "Test Cron" mr182@somewhere.com The email is sent but the output of the script is not in the email body, it's just blank. I know there is some output because there are some echo statements in the script.I don't want to get an email for all cronjobs, just this one.

I want to be able to intersperse my replies within a quoted reply i.e. if the email had three paragraphs, I'd like to be able to have my replies between each of the paragraphs. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to do anything other than delete from the quoted section - I try to simulate my requirements by cutting and then 'paste quotation', but this doesn't always work as sometimes Evolution adds too many levels of '> ' .

We had several websites on that server, and many email addresses. Then we changed servers. Now we have a server through Rackspace and it is also running Ubuntu. It also has Virtualmin installed, which generally does not impose as many unconventional changes on Ubuntu as Plesk did.
Rather than using Thunderbird to download my email (which is what I used to do) I've decided I'll start reading my email on the server. So I will ssh to the server and then use some email client, such as Alpine, to read the email. So I installed Alpine. I have an email account for "lawrence". The email address is lawrence @ krubner. Currently, when mail arrives for that account, it is stored here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it is transferred to hear:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
When I start Alpine, while logged in as lawrence, Alpine automatically sets up an inbox for me here:
/home/lawrence/mail/
How do I get Alpine (or any other client) to read from the correct folder? I'm fairly sure the email package (the MTA) at work on this new server is Postfix. As near as I can tell, my email is held for 24 hours in this folder:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it gets transferred here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
Alpine only lets me set one path for my Inbox, so I'm not sure what path I should set. If I use "cur" I will see all email 1 day late, but if I use "new" then I will miss email if I go a day without checking.
Is there a way of allowing only certain domain to send e-mails to certain specific e-mail address. I am using Sendmail, and I have an alias which translate to certain members of staff within my organization. I don't expect e-mails from outside our domain to be sent to this alias e-mail address.

The new email server will replace the primary one.I would like to setup the new email server in parallel with the existing one.This way i can observe issues that might occur and be aware of what could go wrong. I want to received mail to be delivered to both mail servers at the same time.I would like to use postfix, exim i find a bit to difficult to understand.I have thought of using transport maps, the only problem is that you can only forward mail to one server at a time using transport maps.I think recipient_bcc_maps and sender_bcc_maps could work, i would just like ideas of how i can do this.

I've just installed 11.2 and the video problems are no more so I want to try and stick with it but..... unless I can get my emails across from Windows Mail I'll have to give up. Is there a client that will sensibly import my emails without too much fuss? I've got thousands of mails that I want to move across and they're split into around 50 folders.
