I just started experimenting with LTSP-KIWI. Setting the system up by quick start guide worked flawlessly. Now I'm trying to add some localapps into kiwi image (using guidelines of wikipage LTSP/Localapps). I changed this line in /etc/sysconfig/kiwi-ltsp:

Do I need to change the config.xml or do I have to build the image some other way?
I have been trying to create a live CD or DVD with kiwi, and following the instructions from Portal:KIWI - openSUSE All went well with the building and creation of the ISO image, but when I try to boot it I get:
Failed to mount ext3 clic container Failed to mount root filesystem if I press Alt-F3 (suggested in the terminal)the top most error is tune2fs: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /read-only/fsdata.ext3 Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock. Something I did find was that it may not have permission to use tune2fs.I haven't done any fiddling with the template supplied with kiwi.
Naturally, hiding the graphical grub screen on a regular installation is easy, by adding either "timeout 0" or "hiddenmenu" to menu.lst. But on a live boot, there seems to be no menu.lst - at least no accessible one.
Although, in some kiwi image types, you can specify boottimeout="n" in the image description's type element, it does not have the intended effect. Here is an example. The following type element's boottimeout attribute will invoke the first grub menu item instantly. Changing the value to zero, not only does not hide the grub screen, but seems to restore the default 10 second time out.

Is there any way to hide the graphical grub screen in a kiwi live boot?
When I run the command << kiwi-ltsp-setup -n >> the process gets to the point where it starts "Retrieving repository 'http:__download.opensuse.org_update_11.3' metadata" What do I change so that it will read from my local update repository. The local update repository is already listed in my yast repositories while the ttp:__download.opensuse.org_update_11.3 is not.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've successfully built my server, and any fat or thin client that I connect to it boots wonderfully, with great response. I've gone through this exercise because we need a more efficient way of testing computers before delivery to our customers. So, I'm trying to run Passmark's BurnInTest. I've run it before with previous versions (9.something, I think) and it worked well, but I needed to build a new server so we can test more computers concurrently, so I figured I'd get the latest release.
My problem occurs when I try to run BurnInTest - it must have root access to test the local USB, parallel, and serial ports, and the optical drive. For the previous iteration I used a script that dropped into a local xterm session, su'd to a root session, and called the BiT GUI. In this attempt, the same scripts, even when I single-step them manually, results in 'authentication failure' when the su is attempted.
I have enabled the root account and created a password for it in the chroot /opt/ltsp/i386, and rebuilt the image, multiple times, no joy. Using ctrl-alt-F1 I can log in as root, and using dmesg I can see the USB device register when I connect it, so as far as I can tell the root account is alive and well, just not available in a local xterm session for some reason.
I've been able to write a basic script that opens a terminal a lil messagemy issue, i want it to open its pseudoterminal as soon as i log into GUIthe script:

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed OpenSUSE 11.2-KDE about 2 weeks ago, and have been pretty satisfied with it so far. Apart from one niggling little problem. When I went to the 'Password and User Account' page (Configure Desktop>About Me) and tried to change from the default image to something more personal, I got a message box saying "Your administrator has disallowed changing your image." However, on the same page I was allowed to enter personal details and could, if I wished, have changed my password. I logged in as root to see if I could change it from there, but I got the same message. As this is a single-user machine, where I am effectively root/administrator, it would appear I am banning myself from changing my image. So far, I've been allowed to change anything else.

So i've been battling this for a while now, trying all sorts of different options and searching the boards before I finally decided to post this.I can't make CDs or DVDs, so my only option is to mount the downloaded ISO file on my laptop with CloneCD, then set up PXE DHCP,TFTP server. This method works on other distros but this one in particular is causing me problems in the installer.
So here's the process:I copy the files vmlinuz and initrd from the ooti386loader directory to my tftp root directory.on the system I am installing, i run gPXE, at the prompt type vmlinuz initrd=initrd.I have tried a large combination of different options {install=nfs after I have been having trouble which I will get to later.
the kernel loads, the installer starts. prompts for "Please make sure CD #1 is inserted" naturally, i hit back and select NFS as the install source. It then prompts me for DHCP configuration and the NFS server IP and directory.I'm running an NFS v3 server (haneWIN NFS to be specific) and exported the mounted ISO (this case F) as /suse.

When playing dvd's, vob files and wmv files, the image comes with high contrast colors ,very intense red/green/blue. very dark too. I have vlc 1.1.4 installed, using ubuntu 10.10, libdvdcss2 installed. for the rest of the video formats it seems to work fine. any ideas on what should I start debugging?

So the first image will display on the page, and when a user puts their cursor over it, then it will load image 2. When they press it, it loads image 3.

The problem:
- if i try to print an OpenOffice or LibreOffice Calc with an image and text, the image is not printed (the space is blank).
- if i try to print an OpenOffice or LibreOffice Calc with just an image, it's printed great.
- if i try to print an OpenOffice or LibreOffice Impress, the images are not printed but the text is printed great.

I was given a forensic Image which I now know is a DD image of the drive (Vista) and am trying to mount the image or extract the image to another drive. I'm not sure of the extention type or if the image is a partition or the entire drive. I think it is the entire drive.
Is it possible to mount a DD image to a device. If I can't do that I just want to extract the files to run some programs against the drive. Can I view the files under Ubuntu or do I have to remove the drive and stick it into a Vista computer.
I purchased a second drive today and was hoping the command line would be something simple.
Or am I on the wrong track, should I be doing this all in a windows environment. The reason I picked ubuntu was because of the reporting tools.
I have a printer/scanner/fax that's on the network. i have the printer part set up through cups but how do I set up the scanner? What programs can I use on opensuse to see the scanner?

I am using opensuse 11.2 kde 4.4.2 . I had a working installation of sun virtualbox 3.1 with its virtual image on an ntfs partition before upgrading kde, then I upgraded from KDE 4.3 to 4.4. Now when I start sun virtulabox it gives an error stating that it cant access my hard disk image file due wrong permissions and that the image is read only. I cant create a new image on that partition due same problem but I can create one on my home partition.

1. Able to open JPEG files (only .jpg images loaded).
2. Open them in full screen mode (launched via terminal command).
3. Able to close once clicked on them in full screen mode (example config file: MOUSE_BTN0 = quit)
I tried a few, I liked the simplicity of Eye of Gnome ( eog ), but the close on a click while in full screen doesn't seem an option? Unless there's a config file hidden somewhere?
Recently I succesfully installed conky. I managed to get a lot of things work with more or less effort but I can't make conky to display any image.Images path and permissions had been checked. Imlib2 support too but conky won't display a thing.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have Asus Eee PC T 101 mt. Running SuSE Linux 11.4, KDE version 4.6.0 (Release 6).
The image from integrated webcam is inverted. The image can be upturned to correct orientation by ticking the "Upturned" effect in Webcam (wxCam) application. However, these options are not available in Skype or Google video, or probably in all other services using webcam. Other person in video chat sees my inverted image. Is there a way by which I can correct the situation?
