i just installed MATLAB but while i can load it from shell by typing matlab, when i make a panel application launcher and inform it with the path /usr/share/matlab/bin/matlab it does not start.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy application is developed using GCC and an binary executable created out of it which initializes successfully. By initialization, I meant all the threads in the application are created and I get the required response from the executable. There was a need to create a .so file out of my application instead of binary executable, as it needs to be integrated with another .so file to create a final patch. So we used -fPIC compiler option and created a .so and also an binary executable. But with -fPIC included, the executable fails to initialize at all. It executes some instructions in the main program, before finally haulting down with a " Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault." error. And it always fails at the same faulty address which points to nothing in my application code. What is that -fPIC adds to the code, which makes my code fail with strange behaviour.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI like Unity, and I appreciate Canonical's work in making the desktop cleaner-looking and more intuitive.I think that being able to customize the top/application(?) panel would be very powerful. By this, I mean both adding and removing indicators.I guess the developers are aware of this, and it's easier said than done. I don't know.Personally, I miss the weather and CPU temperature applets of the old Gnome layout.I tried to apply the best guide I've found to modifying the top panel, to no avail.
After I followed the instructions for the addition of three different indicators (weather, cpu frequency and CPU and RAM % usage), my top panel remained the same.I don't know whether the indicators should show up right away or only upon restart. Before upgrade to 11.04, I can drag and drop some *bin or *sh file to taskbar as quick launcher. So, I want to drag these applications to the launcher panel in ubuntu 11.04, but it's rejected. I searched and only found that I can drag an application from app list to the launcher instead of.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI found that some application icons in the panel bar (at the bottom) is not shown correctly, which makes it hard to tell which application it is when I iconify that application. For example, the emacs application icon in panel bar used to be like a goat head. But now it looks like a generic icon, which I cannot tell it is an emacs application. View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04 with dual monitors with a nvidia GeForce 8400GS. I can't figure out how to fix. On the primary screen on the Gnome Panel it shows all my open applications. I currently have VirtualBox, Firefox, and 3 Terminal windows open and they show up on the panel. I can minimize and maximize,etc from the panel bar. This is my issue. If I move say one of the Terminal sessions to the second monitor it disappears from the primary monitor's panel bar.
If I click the hide all applications and show desktop icon there is no way for me to reopen just that terminal window that was on my second screen. I noticed this when I moved my Firefox window to the second screen and minimized everything with the show desktop icon. I could not maximize Firefox cause the application was not listed on the panel. I had to kill Firefox and relaunch.
Whether it is just made unconfigurable or difficult to configure I don't like it. Can't move the panel from top to bottom, Firefox did not have pull down menus for bookmarks etc. Where the did the Application ,Places and System panel menus go? In 10.10 and before I could right click on the desk top and add to the panel but, 11.04 does not even respond to right click.If this is a bug that has a fix please help but if this is normal for 11.04.please let me know how I can make 10.10 the default partition to boot.
View 9 Replies View Relatedafter upgrading to Natty (and playing around some with Unity) I noticed that the top part of the application windows are often hidden/covered by the gnome panel (see attachments).
This is particularly annoying for the rdesktop session (second jpg) which I had set up so that it gave maximum desktop size to the rdp session while leaving the panel of top. If you look carefully you see that the "panel gap" is not at the bottom of the screen, while the panel itself covers the top of the rdp window.
It seems like, that the 'anchor point' for application windows used to be '+0+24' (so just below the panel) while now it's '+0+0' in the top left corner of the desktop. I suspect that while playing with unity I reset one of the compiz options which takes care of this. But I can't find it.
I got Ubuntu 9.10 running very well. ever since this morning when i booted i have that weird Panel on the desktop towards the left. It is showing basically the Application menu. I dont know why? I know i did not change anything. Also since this morning my right klick on the desktop nothing happen either? i dont want that on the Desktop!

I want to install fedora 11 on my pc, earlier I had fedora 7. But while installing fedora 11, its stopping at the point telling: Waiting hardware to initialize and its getting stuck there.
I have :
- Pentium D 2.8 GHz processor
- 512 MB RAM
I receive following error when trying to enable strigi. "strigi service failed to initialize, most likely due to installation problem" I have searched internet, obviously not good enough, and i have found nothing. Nothing that would work. i have tried installing openjdk-devel as suggested, soprano. And still nothing. I have same problems on both boxes running Fedora 12.

There are unfinished transactions remaining. Please run yum-complete-transaction as root. I get to terminal, and as a root I try yum-complete-transaction, but it just says there are no unfinished transactions left. I tried to update thru yum, but this is what I get:

After lots of googling, I tried:
"yum clean all",
"yum-comlete-transaction",

Everything else is working well, and I am able to update with "--skip-broken", but I keep getting this pop-ups. I use fedora 12.
Since Livna went down, I've been having having problems with KPackagekit. I disabled the Libna repo by setting enabled=0 in /etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo, and have been able to update with Yum.KPackageKit fails on me now with the message "Failed to initialize backend. This may occur if other packaging tools are used simultaneously."Then it fails to finish, which causes me to reboot before I can use Yum successfully.Under Settings, I see no indication that it knows where the repositories are, and no way to add repos.

I don't know anything about other packaging tools - I think I don't using any. Yum works fine in terminal. Reinstall PackageKit and KPackageKit files doesn't helped me. I also try to rebuilt rpm db:
rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
rpm -vv --rebuilddb
yum clean all
I'm using Fedora 12 x86_64.
Does any one know how to get the name back on the gnome panel. It seems to have disappeared , I tried using the add to panel feature by right clicking on the panel but cannot locate it in the list.
