I am currently using the second one but I am seeing some very slow writes (10seconds) while heavy read access to the servers. So I am generally scratching around.

Fedora :: 12 - Kmod-nvidia-PAE ?

Apr 6, 2010

I'm trying to get my 7800GS (AGP) working in Fedora 12. The default driver from NVIDIA will not install at all. Gives an error about nvidia.ko.

So I've tried to go kmod-nvidia. I followed this thread [url].

I ran a 'yum update' to get the latest everything. Reset, typed in rdblacklist=nouveau, reset, then tried 'yum install kmod-nvidia-PAE' it worked!

But now the computer does not have a screen. I had to SSH in to edit inittab to be runlevel 3.

How to get this nVIDIA driver installed?!

Fedora :: Kmod-nvidia And Dracut

May 31, 2010

Having downloaded the DVD iso which failed to burn correctly I decided to try a live X86_64 iso, and installed from that. This was fine and I had set everything up apart from the nvidia drivers( nouveau worked but with no 3d for desktop effects). The card is a 7300LE and was working fine with kmod-nvida in F12. Following the instructions that leigh provides a howto for as usual I thought I would finish off the install. However I had several errors show up, which unfortuantely I did not keep a note of concerning dracut. On the restart the install was trashed, just froze solid in plymouth. Having been here before I decided that I would just do a complete reinstall again and investigate further what is going wrong later.

Having now a really nice slick F13 with all my servers set up etc and now running under nouveau I have just decided to check out dracut dependencies with the following: rpm -qR dracut-005-3.fc13

This gives:

Checking through the list of installed software I am unable to locate the following:

Though rpmlib is installed which may well be for the various rpmlib()'s above, I cannot see any package for fileutils,mktemp or mount in the repo's.

Debian Installation :: Live 8.3.0 IWLWIFI - KMOD?

Mar 18, 2016

Installed Debian Live 8.3.0 on my laptop .... To my surprise It did not find my Intel Pro Wifi adapter.......IWLWIFI

I needed to download the IWLWIFI package, however to my second surprise synaptic did not have it! So manually went into a repo, found it , and installed it with DPKG.

According to WIKI [URL] ....

"As the iwlwifi module is automatically loaded for supported devices, reinsert this module to access installed firmware:
# modprobe -r iwlwifi ; modprobe iwlwifi"

To my third surprise , modprobe command not found. After doing some investigation, I discovered that all these commands:

lsmod(8), rmmod(8), insmod(8), modinfo(8), modprobe(8), depmod(8)
have been removed and replaced by KMOD

KMOD is not a very friendly, it's kmod -- support is useless, so looked for it's manpage : [URL] ....

To my fourth surprise, there was not much support either:

KMOD(8) kmod KMOD(8)

NAME top

kmod - Program to manage Linux Kernel modules

SYNOPSIS top

kmod [OPTIONS...] [COMMAND] [COMMAND_OPTIONS...]

DESCRIPTION top

HTML rendering created 2016-03-15 by Michael Kerrisk, author of The Linux Programming Interface,

So far I am very disappointed with this latest DEBIAN 8.3.0 edition

--no driver included for a very common IWLWIFI (used by 13 adapters)
--utilities to add drivers removed ( lsmod(8), rmmod(8), insmod(8), modinfo(8), modprobe(8), depmod(8))
--the so called "replacement" KMOD is poorly documented and totally useless

Next step was kmod for nvidia but when i rebooted i couldn't use fedora anymore cause loading freezes at some point. same thing happens to my desktop pc, where i solved the problem booting with an older kernel (this time i have an error saying "eth0 link not ready" or something like that). Everytime i try to boot with a more recent kernel loading freezes. The point is...i can go through with my desktop pc by choosing another kernel, but i can't even boot with my laptop.

Fedora :: How Does Metapackage Kmod-nvidia Work

Nov 6, 2009

I got my nvidia drivers for my Fedora 11 64 bit system from RPMFusion.But each time my kernel is upgraded, X stops working because I don't have the proper module installed. Previously I booted an earlier kernel and installed the proper nvidia kernel module, and all was well. But this time with kernel vmlinuz-2.6.30.9-96.fc11.i686.PAE, I don't yet have the corresponding kernel module.So I have to make do for the moment with an earlier kernel.

But in the process I discovered the metapackage kmod-nvidia-185-18.36-1.ff11.3.x86_64, and installed it.It has no files, and according to the information blurb, its sole purpose is to keep the installation of the kernel and the kernel module in sync.Does anyone know how this works?Is the kernel not installed until the corresponding kernel module is available?Also, it hasn't even been 24 hours, so I guess I should be patient, but how long is it likely to be before the kernel module for tthe new kernel is available?

Fedora :: 2.6.33.124 - No Matching Kmod-nvidia Package

Jun 17, 2010

just updated to new 2.6.33.124 kernel along with some other updates to python and boy what a mess!
I can't run at all with the new kernel (the kernel appears to load but stops before the xserver loads, I think)I really don't think this is a generally problematic bug though, i'm afraid that this setup is just fusty since I have been having trouble with metacity (causes the cpu to spin up --metaphorically of course--to ridiculous amounts until I kill the process, which it happily does without actually killing it but it does spin down again to 2-3% from 60% or so) and the python update seems to have killed the nVidia setup and 3D as well. so.... anybody have any suggestions on how to straighten this mess out without setting up again? This is actually the second time I set this up since the metacity bug made me thing it was fusty the first time, but a second setup didn't solve it.

I did turn the metacity bug in as a kernel bug (because it was in some way related to massive kernel ticks which was keeping the cpu going, but have had no response to that, unless this latest update did that.

Fedora :: Unable To Update/reinstall Kmod-wl 13

Sep 14, 2010

Every time I attempted to run "yum update" dependencies failed to resolve citing kernel version problems. I cleaned out a bunch of old versions of kmod-wl that were still on my system (some dating back to my old f12 install) and still had no luck. Finally I removed kmod-wl altogether so that I could update the rest of my system and hoped I could just re-install it once the update was finished. No dice. "yum install kmod-wl" still produces this message (identical to what "yum update" gave when the old kmod-wl was installed):

Fedora :: F13 PAE Kernel Update Missing Kmod?

Dec 9, 2010

Yesterday I ran updates that moved me from kernel Fedora (2.6.34.7-61.fc13.i686.PAE) to Fedora (2.6.34.7-63.fc13.i686.PAE). After reboot my system hangs trying to start X. I can use altF2 and log in that way but when I try to start X it fails - no screen found. I backed off to my previous kernel and used the package manager to remove the updated kernel and noticed that when it uninstalled it did not take any kmod packages with it. I assume not having an associated kmod may have been the problem? If so, how do I find the correct one to install?

CentOS 5 :: Error - No Package Kmod-nvidia Available

Mar 28, 2009

setting up Nvidia packages on CentOS. The best advice regarding these drivers that I found was to add the RPM Fusion Yum repository(as well as EPEL, which RPM Fusion depends on).I got that set up, but I still don't have any Nvidia packages available! I'm reasonably confident that I set up RPM Fusion correctly from Yum's output:

yum repolist
Loading "fastestmirror" plugin
repo id repo name status
addons CentOS-5 - Addons enabled

But actually trying to install the package gives me: No package kmod-nvidia available. Even a yum search for nvidia doesn't find any packages.

Fedora :: Kmod-nvidia Package - Improper Installation

Dec 28, 2009

I have just upgraded the hard drive in my laptop with a new one that isn't about to crash (I dropped the laptop a few months back). After installing Fedora 12, the first thing I did was try to install kmod-nvidia and all its dependencies. Upon rebooting Fedora goes to the boot splash, and then when the login screen should display it instead shows a blank black terminal like screen. Do diagnose this I logged in under terminal (tty3) and proceeded to try to start X manually. It displayed an error to the effect of 'could not load Nvidia kernel module Nvidia_module.so3'. I figured it must have been a glitch so I reinstalled kmod and the same thing happened. Tried reinstalling Fedora all together and still the same result. I am getting kmod from the RPM Fusion repo

Fedora :: Installed Kmod-nvidia On My F12 - Doesn't Boot Anymore

Dec 7, 2009

I've installed kmod-nvidia on my F12 system and now it doesn't boot anymore. I just receive a black screen with a blinking '_' on top of my screen immediately after i choose F12 in my grub menu. (I have a Nvidia 8800GT.)

I've tried to run the following command after the installation but it didn't work: [url]

mv /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r)-nouveau.img

So I didn't blacklist nouveau or anything else. I just foolishly thought it was going to work.

Now I can't boot my system anymore. Is there any way to solve the problem? Or can I remove kmod-nvidia using a live cd? How?

Fedora Hardware :: Recieve Error When Trying To Install Kmod-nvidia ?

Sep 13, 2010

I have been using F13 with no problem for ages, but yesterday I decided to wipe my computer and re install it, and now I am having problems! It is with the nvidia driver.

I have a GeForce 8600 GT and usually just install kmod-nvidia and xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 and blacklist the nouveau driver and that works fine. However since yesterday I recieve this error when trying to install kmod-nvidia:

Error: Package:

From hunting around on the net I took this to mean that there isn't a kmod-nvidia for the latest kernel? So one thing it said to try was to install akmod-nvidia, which I did. Then on boot up I saw that it created the correct dirvers for what I wanted and booted into Fedora, I tested that it worked (with 3d effects) and everything was fine.

However, when I restarted the computer it got seemingly to the end of the boot sequence, and then the screen just flashed repeatedly for a few seconds and then didn't do anything?
