I have downloaded static skype and when i tryed to run it i get following message:
Code: skype: error while loading shared libraries: libXv.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory As far as i know statically linked skype shouldn't ask for anything wright?
I downloaded the latest Skype beta from Skype's site and installed it. When I click on the icon, nothing happens, so I tried from an xterm and I get the error:
skype: error while loading shared libraries: libXv.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
I looked up libXv in the software manager, and it looks to be installed.
What do I need to do to get Skype running?
BTW, two question:
Is it standard in case of errors that running from the UI simply does nothing, and there's need to run from a terminal window to see them?
How do I copy text from xterm (in order to paste in a post like this)?

I have an ASUS eec901 Linux version with Jolicloud installed. When I dial Skype contacts I can hear and see them but THEY just get static with no picture or audible voice. Skype informs me that I must change my settings from Pulse audio to ALSA using a program called pavucontrol. I must delete Pulse audio, but although i have tried I can see no way to do this.Pavu control does not seem to install either.

I'm trying to give my computer (has ethernet wired cable connected to router) a static IP but it's not working. (BTW, I'm using ifup not network manager)I give it 192.168.1.8 and 255.255.255.0.Host-name I leave as they have it (it's the name of my computer). Click OK, accept and it all says it went through but now I can't ping anything. If I change it back to DHCP, I can ping again. What am I doing wrong?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of openSUSE 11.4 with KDE. This includes ALSA and Pulseaudio.
I have a mic and speakers and a webcam. As far as I can see microphone and sound reproduction work, the webcam also works:
- I can arecord and aplay
- KMix works
- amixer and alsamixer work (I am using microphone boost)
- test sounds play
- the webcam works in "Personal Settings (Configure Desktop)": Hardware > Multimedia > Phonon (test camera)
- Pidgin and Empathy work with sound and video.
(had to set this: gconftool-2 --set --type=string /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc pulsesrc,
without this setting it was set to alsasrc by default and Pidgin and Empathy didn't work).
I installed Skype 2.2 (also tried 2.1) and tested the video camera in Skype. Result: doesn't work.
I made a test call: I hear the voice of the lady answering the call, but my own voice is not recorded.
In Skype everything is set to use Pulseaudio.
I am at a total loss to understand what is going wrong here. Why does Skype not work, when everything else does??
I made this observation:
When an application records something, a "Capture stream" shows up in the KMix "Capture Streams" tab. For example, when I use arecord, "ALSA capture" shows up, while I record. When I make a call on Empathy, a capture stream shows up in the said tab.
When I make a Skype call, NO capture stream shows up, so obviously Skype is not capturing anything.

Basically on a Windows box, you can give it a static IP address, but there is an option to have it update the DNS server with it's IP and hostname. View 8 Replies View RelatedI have virtual box installed which automatically installed bridges for my network adapters. This has always worked fine. I'm attempting to set up a static IP for this machine now. I use NetworkManager, and the physical connection (eth0) is set to static IP of 0.0.0.0, and the bridge (br0) attached to eth0 was set to DHCP. I changed br0 to my desired static IP and lost net connectivity (I'm talking about the host, not the virtual machine - I'll get the host working first). Re-enabling DHCP restores connectivity. So I don't know what the problem is, but I am unable to assign a static IP to the bridged connection. Do I have to do this differently? Do I need to remove the bridge so I am using just eth0 again, assign the static IP to eth0, and then re-install the bridge? I haven't tried that yet because a) I don't know how to remove & reinstall the bridge, because it was done automatically by Virtual Box installation, and b) I could probably do that if I had the time figure it out but right now I don't.
I set up a static IP on wlan0 on another machine using Network Manager and it works fine. That machine also has Virtual Box installed but for some reason doesn't have the bridged connections. (Perhaps because it runs Ubuntu, not OpenSUSE, if that makes any difference)

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm maintaining a very modest network at home, with OpenSUSE as OS on the server. I got the DHCP and routing working by following the instructions in the wiki. However, every time I run dhclient on the server/router, it appears my own DHCP server assigns an address to the internal network card despite the fact I specifically assigned it to be static using Yast. The situation resolves itself when I restart the network services with the command /etc/init.d/network restart. Otherwise no problem, but it also seems the internal network card gets a "new" IP from my server every time the external card requests one from the ISP. This is more of an issue.

"Couldn't convert 'hometsa-comp' to host address" I have setup the ip address, netmask, gateway and dns server in the network manager static address, it works when I setup the vnc connection using ip address instead of hostnames.
I need to get Skype to run. I downloaded and then installed it after making sure I had all the required items installed. When I click on Skype all that happens is the bouncing S comes on my screen and runs for a minute or so then disappears without Skype ever running.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a IOgear USB bluetooth adapter and a Sony DRBT101/BLK bluetooth headphones to use with my computer.Whenever I try to make a call using these headphones with skype, I can speak for say 10 seconds and then the headset disconnects completely from the system. I then have to reconnect the headset by switching it off and on. I do not have this problem listening to music using A2DP. It works fine with my mobile phone.When I change the profile to Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP), it shows up as hands free, I thought it should be headset in blueman manager. My friend uses Plantronics headset with is Dell laptop with built in bluetooth and he says his comes up as headset not hands free. Could this be causing the problem?

I cant seem to text via skype, it doesnt go through. I testet the skype test call service and voice works fine, audio and mic. I have tried to google and search forums but no luck. I have before used skype on my netbook with my cellphone as a hot spot and it worked without problem but it doesnt have the same provider - different sim cards in phone and dongle.
