View 9 RepliesIs it possible to map the same "Present Windows - All Desktops" action which is invoked by activating the top left corner of active screens via a keyboard shortcut? I basically want to ape OSX and have an expose-like button, the screen edge works fine for now, but I would love a keyboard shortcut also. Is it possible? Also, when I set up a custom keyboard shortcut to run yast, I initially tried using the same command from the KDE menu: /usr/bin/xdg-su -c /sbin/yast2
However, when I use the keyboard shortcut to launch this command, I get problems when trying to use zypper after the initial launch using the keyboard shortcut(from yast GUI or CLI). The error basically states another instance of yast2 already exists. The problem is only with the app/repo management modules though; for instance I can launch yast (using keyboard shortcut or start menu) and access hardware info, sudo users etc, I just can't access software/repo management stuff. Even when I kill the offending PID from the CLI I still get the error and have to restart the box to rectify it proper. So I changed the keyboard shortcut command to : /usr/bin/kdesu /sbin/yast2
and this seems to have resolved the problem. My second question is what is the difference between the two in this particular instance and why does one cause problems (xdg-su) and the other does not (kdesu).
When using the above image viewer, it would be easier for me to be able to close the viewer/image while displaying an image in fullscreen mode, by clicking on the middle mouse button, rather than right clicking and choosing "Exit full screen", then clicking on the cross in the corner of the window. This is similar to how Firefox can close tabs by middle-clicking with the mouse wheel.
Mouse function editing in GQview seems limited to controlling whether the scroll wheel pans up and down the picture, or moves to the next/previous picture. Any way I can edit the preferences file for GQview at .gqview/gqviewrc in order to achieve the above shortcut facility on my mousewheel, for this application? Or is anyone familiar with another Linux image viewer that does allow the mouse to be programmed in this way?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSuddenly the mouse middle button paste feature does not work in Bluefish and OpenOffice. It is driving me crazy. I have become so used to this feature I am constantly forgetting to ctl c/v to cut and paste.
It works everywhere else. ( For example, I can use it in this text box that I am typing this message in. ) and when I select text in either Bluefish or OpenOffice it shows up in Klipper. Strangely, if I select that text in Klipper I can paste it into either application with the middle button.
This just started a few days ago. I have no idea what changed on my system. It is a KDE4 desktop, if that is relevant.
openSuse 11.4 64bit fresh install, KDE 4.6.0. Now I am probably being obtuse, but If I click on the wonderfully named "My Computer" I get, among other things, a display of Disk Information; hard drive partitions and any DVDs or CDs. If I let my mouse cursor alight on any of these, I get a message "Press the right mouse button for more options (such as Mount or Eject)" But if I press the right mouse button, I don't get those options; I get a message "Open in new window, Open in new tab, Open with ..., Create file project with K3b, and Compress ...".

The mouse settings in System Settings does not have a tab for editing what the buttons do. (I thought there should be a Logitech tab, but I guess that is for USB only)

Ive been using opensuse for a little while now. Recently ran into a problem My favorite mouse broke, so i went out and got a travel one. It has a very toucht third button under the scroll wheel. Apperently this button is to paste, but every time i scroll, it makes my life miserable, especially when im reading a lengthy page in firefox. I cannot figure out how to program the buttons. Ive googled, and seen some programs that MIGHT help. but this seems to be something that is built in to the OS. The mouse yast plugin doesnt give you the choice of shuting off the third button, or even reassigning it. I want the paste functionality GONE from my **** mouse

Hi, I have had a frustrating problem for the past few months where performing a 'left-mouse-button-drag' operation (i.e. holding down on a scroll bar, drawing a line in a graphics application, connecting a wire in Labview) will often fail to acknowledge when the mouse button is released by the user. The OS continues to believe the button is being held down (as far as I can tell). From this point, *sometimes* the mouse button might release if I ctrl+alt+del or right click around the place, but mostly I need to restart openSUSE to fix the issue. This occurs every 10 minutes or so, and after searching for a solution for the past few months, I now write in hope that this is a known issue, and there is a solution. Of course the problem could be with VMWare, but I have also Mandriva, DSL and Puppy Linuz installed, and none show this same problem.
For some reason, sometimes after I just turn the computer off by pressing the power button while hooked up to the video mount, I'll turn the computer on and (after it automatically logs into the standard user) come to a blank black screen. The only thing I can access is by pressing Alt+Tab to get a "no present windows" window, and thats it. Could it be that an activity or something has been deleted somehow?

Even the mic mute button present on my laptop is not working.(There is no such problem on windows se7en) Earlier, even an external mic never used to work. After some searching i added "options snd-hda-intel model = thinkpad" to my alsa-base.conf file. And then the internal mic started working only when an external mic was connected.
when i type "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec" i get:

I looked into the HD-Audio-Models.txt but couldn't locate the exact model for ALC269 so i searched online and decided to put model = thinkpad as i'd mentioned earlier. But The alsa-mixer shows card to be HDA Intel and chp as intel g45 devctg. Moreover, even this partial working of mic(s) is when i choose the input source in the alsamixer to be front mic and not int mic.
I just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.

I have been trying to active the shortcut <Super>+D to minimize all active windows and show desktop. Compiz is already install on my system,that I have tried all possible combinations of "show desktop" functionality in Compiz and Gnome itself. However, whenever I use the shortcut, it activates(maximize) one window first, and it shows desktop if I use the shortcut second time. Actually same thing happens when I press the "show desktop" button on the panel as well
View 4 Replies View Relatedjust want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

i got a razer diamondback 3G and button 1,2,3+weel up/down works.. but the button 4 (previous) not.
instead the button 5 (next) do previous, and button 4 don't work.
i tried modify xorg.conf but do nothing..
I have a MX 518 which as 5 additional buttons, I'm trying to bind the thumb button to Control or Shift. I'm fighting against it since yesterday, I tried many things : easystroke, imwheel, xbindkeys/xvkbd. I'm a bit new to Linux so I can still miss something very important. I read a tutorial about that mouse, all went well but it isn't explained how to set up what I wish.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs I'd like to be able to fully control my desktop with both my keyboard and my mouse, I wrote a .xbindkeysrc.scm script to make two of my eight mouse buttons work as modifiers. For instance, b:9 + wheel now changes volume.
Only problem is, I accomplish this by emulating a key press with a modifier held, and the modifier seems to stick randomly after the mouse buttons have been released.
I would be very happy if anyone could point out the errors in the script below (or with the software used, I don't know how reliable xvkbd is).

The first part declares some base functions for the keystrokes to be sent with xvkbd. Also, the function to reset the bindings on relesae of the modifier is here. (As you may see, I already tried to put in some code to specifically reset the modifiers, with no results.) The second part contains the default bindings for buttons 10-12 when no modifier is held. The third and fourth part specify the actions when modifiers are held, usually to send a keystroke or to run a command. The fifth part performs the bindings for the first, second and third level.
The mouse buttons on my machine are frustratingly loud, unreliable and hard to press down. (the touchpad thingy that *moves* the mouse works great though)
I would like to map a certain (unused) keyboard key I have, to do the job that the left mouse button does (i.e. the opposite of what tons of mouse-keyboard mapping programs do).
I'm open for suggestions on how to accomplish this, but I would prefer using xmodmap, possibly in conjunction with xdotool. Thus, I need someway to map events as follows: (button1=leftmouse; keycode123=keyboard key alternative)
KeyPress 123 ---> ButtonPress Button 1
Keyrelease 123 ---> ButtonRelease Button 1
Compiz is also a great way to map stuff to xdotool commands, but it doesn't handle separate KeyDown/KeyUp event.
How can assign the shortcut "Win Key + M" to minimize all windows? I haven't seen this option in "System Preferences" -> "Mouse and keyboard"

The problem that I am having is that the OS will randomly think that I am holding down the left mouse button, which I am clearly not. I only installed the base system (development pack), and did not add any of ther other repositories. I would really like to be able to use Fedora 13, and not just have it sitting there on my HDD, and also use it as a server operating system (because of the configuration tools)
View 3 Replies View Relatedwondering if any other ppc users have had the issue whereby, after the first unsuccessful power down (or sometimes the second or third) of a fresh ubuntu 9.10 install, mouse button 3, which is normally mapped to F12, becomes function (fn) + F12.? This is really annoying as you now have to use two hands to activate the little drop down menu. So i tried remapping mouse button three to that strange little key beside the left arrow on an ibook keyboard that looks like a picnic table and which, under os x, renames stuff.
I ran "gksu gedit /etc/sysctl.d/10-arch-specific.conf" and edited it accordingly: mouse button 3 from keycode 88 to 104. It works, but i still have to press function to activate it and fn + F12 still works simultaneously (though it is no longer defined in the conf file), and my new key doesnt offer the same functionality (eg, it doesnt give spell check options in firefox where fn + F12 does). Arg. Anybody know how to make it so that i can activate mouse button three without having to press function?
I was using lucid since beta 2 without problems, but since few days I can't get a menu when I click on the right mouse button. Doesn't work on the desktop or when for example I want to rename a file using the right mouse button. Is this a bug from gnome or a new properties?
