After a forced reinstall, I find myself missing the desktop folder which I can live without. However, I reallty need right mouse button functions. How can I restore them?

I have successfully mapped the plus-minus key on the keyboard to emulate the Wheel/Middle Mouse Button click with this shell script run at startup:

This is so I can rotate the view in Blender without clicking the wheel, because the wheel also zooms, and it's too easy to zoom inadvertently. The remaining problem is panning, a Shift-MMB combination. Now I'm lost - how can I map a key (or better still, a Shift-key combo) to the Shift-MMB click?
I would like to assign right-mouse-click behaviour to a hardware button. I can associate a keypress, or a combination of keypresses with an "xdotool click 3" command via the Gnome keyboard shortcuts.
I have the scancode of the hardware button so can use
setkeycodes scancode keycode
to mimic any key of my keyboard. However, I don't want the hardware button to mimic a single key of my keyboard that is already in use, since then the keyboard key will also activate xdotool.
So I think I need:
- either a way to associate that particular scancode with an (outlandish) keypress combo rather than a single keypress;
- or a keycode which is not currently in use, to bind to the scancode. Are there any like that and how would I find out? In the Gnome Keyboard Shortcuts list there is stuff like "XF86AudioMedia" which I'm not using -- but does that correspond to a numerical keycode value which setkeycodes understands?
I want to be able to auto scroll by clicking my middle mouse button. In Firefox you can do this in the about:config easily, but with Google Chrome, I don't know what to do.
There is no Chrome option to allow this, so I guess I'd have to configure some stuff. Does anyone know how to do this? I really prefer Chrome over Firefox, and would like to go back to it, but can't without auto scroll.
I would like to use the command key to enable center mouse click by hitting the sequence 'command key, button1'

View 6 Replies View Relatedjust want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

where can I change the single click into a double click (because I'm a windows user (sorry!))? The mouse model does not support this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn testing that all my bits of hardware work I have come to my 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator. The hardware is virtually new and works absolutely fine in XP (that is what I am trying to escape from).
When the spacenavigator is plugged in it works absolutely fine so long as I move the thing with a soft feather. It is so sensitive that it is un-useable.My problem is that although the system has recognised it and has it in the hardware scan in YaST but nowhere can I find any way to change the sensitivity settings and button functions.
I have fedora 10 installed on vmware, running on win7. today when I try to start up fedora, after logging in, I faced this error: Oops! sealert hit an error! ..... there is no space left on device..... could not attach t desktop process... when I click "ok" button I just can see a black page and a mouse cursur circling forever..I really need to work with my fedora beacause i dont have any backup of my files ... btw, I allocated 8g hard disk to my machine on vmware. I don't have any idea how to boot and login from a console not a gui

How do I configure or set up mouse action such that an option to delete or move to trash is also included when hitting the right mouse button? As shown below, the "standard menu" does not include this action:
Right clicking desktop > Desktop Settings > Plasma Desktop Shell
Middle button: Paste
Left button: Standard Menu (std. menu/application launcher/paste/switch windows/switch activity/switch desktop)
Vertical scroll: Switch desktop
Right button: Standard Menu
Suddenly the mouse middle button paste feature does not work in Bluefish and OpenOffice. It is driving me crazy. I have become so used to this feature I am constantly forgetting to ctl c/v to cut and paste.
It works everywhere else. ( For example, I can use it in this text box that I am typing this message in. ) and when I select text in either Bluefish or OpenOffice it shows up in Klipper. Strangely, if I select that text in Klipper I can paste it into either application with the middle button.
This just started a few days ago. I have no idea what changed on my system. It is a KDE4 desktop, if that is relevant.
I got sick to DEATH of Adobe AIR and TweetDeck screwing up constantly, and then Adobe announces there will be no more Adobe AIR for Linux. Fine, screw 'em, I'll switch to something else. So I hunt around for the options, most of which suck. Then I discover Choqok is already installed on my machine (11.4). Except the POS doesn't work.
To use it, I have to authenticate with my Twitter account. So I click Add, select Twitter, it pops up the dialog. I leave the alias as Twitter, click the authenticate with Twitter button. The Firefox icon pops up and bounces around - but Firefox is already running. So nothing happens! No Twitter access, no page loaded, nothing. I shut down Firefox, try it again. Same deal. As usual, no one bothered to test this POS software before releasing it. how to get this **** to authenticate to Twitter in the absence of ANY useful documentation for this junk?
when i click my mouse on something, it sometimes registers as two clicks. it doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to be annoying. for example, when i click a videos video to pause it, it often opens into fullscreen (which you normally click twice to do). also, in the url bar of chromium, i can't select the entire url by clicking. i now need to use ctrl+a. that's also because when i try to select the url, the highlight randomly disappears.
if i have multiple windows open, my click on the first "x" of the top-most window also closes the next window. i'm on linux mint 10. it's not really important, but it drives me crazy sometimes when my mouse doesn't work the way i want it to.

I was browsing the Internets trying to figure out how to completely disable the right-click button on my mouse. I am running openSUSE 11.3 with just Gnome and using a basic USB Dell model mouse with a scroll wheel. I am creating a Kiosk image and I have everything locked down except when a user is in Firefox they can still use the right-click button to bring up the menu to Bookmark this page and Save Page As, etc (If you right-click a webpage in Firefox you'll see what I'm talking about). I thought I could find an add-on for Firefox to disable this behavior but no such luck. I did find some references for Debian and Fedora, other distros besides openSUSE where you can modify the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to disable the right mouse button. When I look in that directory on my openSUSE 11.3 system I just see /etc/X11/xorg.conf.install.
how can I disable the right-click ability on my mouse? This is the last step and I'll have a nice locked down Kiosk image ready to go running openSUSE 11.3.
Does anyone know where single click for mouse can be enabled in this distro?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I installed some updates. What they were I don't remember. After I did that my mouse started acting up. Now about half the time when I single click it registers as a double click. Also when I click and drag to select text anywhere it'll randomly do another click screwing up that process.
So far I think the problem is when I press the left mouse button it registers the left click and then when I release, it randomly registers another left click.
The mouse itself works fine if I take it to another PC that's using windows.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 64bit
Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0
mouse menu different in 10.10, is there a way to make the mouse single click instead of double click?

If I normally click the Trash icon either in Kmail or in Evolution more than one mail gets deleted in a sequential order! I have to press the click button extremely light to avoid this problem. I have confirmed this problem is not only with the Email clients but even with most other normal applications too. I have changed my mouse twice but the problem persists. Both were USB mice. openSuse 11.4 64bit fresh install, KDE 4.6.0. Now I am probably being obtuse, but If I click on the wonderfully named "My Computer" I get, among other things, a display of Disk Information; hard drive partitions and any DVDs or CDs. If I let my mouse cursor alight on any of these, I get a message "Press the right mouse button for more options (such as Mount or Eject)" But if I press the right mouse button, I don't get those options; I get a message "Open in new window, Open in new tab, Open with ..., Create file project with K3b, and Compress ...".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to play Minecraft on my netbook like I did before with Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04, but on 10.04 i opted at the log in to use the GNOME interface, so to run Minecraft i just right clicked it and chose the option to run with SUN Java(insert version numbers here) and it worked just fineBUT with the new Unity interface I can't get it to work! I right click and nothing happens. How do I run with Java on Unity? It worked fine when i logged out and switched to the GNOME interface, so I know the game works. I just don't know how to do it in Unity.

I've added another sata drive to my system formatted to Ext4, but i have to put in my password for root priveliges (spell?) to access it. I can understand from a security point of view about the password, but there is no way to create new folders or even copy/paste data to it, as the options are not available with the right/click mouse.My external USB drive requires no password, and i can do all the usual functions with it, but not so with the internal sata drive. Is there a way to enable the internal drive for 'normal' operations.

The mouse settings in System Settings does not have a tab for editing what the buttons do. (I thought there should be a Logitech tab, but I guess that is for USB only)

Ive been using opensuse for a little while now. Recently ran into a problem My favorite mouse broke, so i went out and got a travel one. It has a very toucht third button under the scroll wheel. Apperently this button is to paste, but every time i scroll, it makes my life miserable, especially when im reading a lengthy page in firefox. I cannot figure out how to program the buttons. Ive googled, and seen some programs that MIGHT help. but this seems to be something that is built in to the OS. The mouse yast plugin doesnt give you the choice of shuting off the third button, or even reassigning it. I want the paste functionality GONE from my **** mouse
