OpenSUSE :: OpenOffice Crash When Opening Image File?

Jul 16, 2010

I wanted to compose a letter and include photos that are on my other (secondary) hd. When I navigate to the folder that the photo is in, OpenOffice suddenly crashes without warning. Then I have to recover my file. If I insert a photo from my main hd (the one with SuSE 11.2 on it) then there's no problem. Why does it crash when I try to go into my other hard drive? (It gets automatically mounted as /local when I boot into the system). I'm running Open SuSE 11.2 and OpenOffice 3.1.1.4 (from an .rpm)

OpenSUSE :: OpenOffice 3.2.1 - Hangs Opening Document

Sep 10, 2010

Running openSuse 11.3 32 bit clean default KDE install.

When opening documents(Write, Calc, Impress?) in OpenOffice 3.2.1 there is a 7 to 10 second pause between when the document is displayed on screen and when any mouse action takes effect. This is not a document size issue, these are small documents with minimal formatting; one or two pages. Also, the system has ample horsepower and is not resource constrained.

Clicking on a writer.odt file, from within Dolphin, results in the following events: Open Office.Org(ooo) splash screen displays with progress bar zipping across for a couple of seconds. The document appears on screen. For the next 7 - 10 seconds, clicking in the document or clicking ooo menu items or anything else results in nothing happening. Actions outside of ooo work fine. ooo simply freezes for the 7 or so seconds and then everything returns to normal operation.

As a test I tried opening Writer with the default blank document. I started typing immediately after the blank document was displayed. I typed Te and then it froze for several seconds before displaying the final two characters st As before, once past this first few seconds, everything is fine.

OpenSUSE :: OpenOffice Crash With Polyester Theme

I have installed OpenSUSE 11.2 with KDE as my default DA I have installed KDE4 style "Polyester" from Yast > Install Software.

Now the problem is when I activate "Polyester" theme than all OpenOffice app will be broken. All OpenOffice application will start but closed immediately with crash. Also it will work perfectly with other KDE4 theme. Is this a bug or I need to setup something? I like the "Polyester" theme and I want to use it.

Since when I upgraded OpenSuse from 10.2 to 11.3 (big jump, I know!), I can no longer use OpenOffice. When Java is Active, the OO applications crash after a few operations. Most of times they don't even start.

When run in a terminal, OO answers with errors like this:

OpenSUSE :: OpenOffice Crash If View Database?

Oct 25, 2010

I have OO.o 3.1.1.4 installed on my SuSE 11.2 system. (It came with it.)I've tried connecting to my older OO.o address book database and it seems to have connected (I get no error messages) but when I try to open the database source from within Writer, or any other OO.o tool (either by pressing F4 or going to View > Data Sources) OpenOffice crashes. I can open my database as an .ods or a .dbf or .odb.When I open it as an .odb, I end up with some sort of form wizard designer. All looks ok, the table is there (and it looks good!) but then what? If I close that wizard, the table then closes with it.

I've also used File > Templates > Address Book Source. After using that, if I hit F4, OOo crashes.My main problem is that OO.o crashes when I try to view the database source from within a document.P.S. I do have Java (Sun's version of Java 1.6.0) installed and OO.o seems to know it's there and is registered.

Ubuntu :: Openoffice.org Causes X To Crash?

Jan 18, 2011

I'm using a ZaReason Terra HD netbook. I have not changed any of the default hardware, nor messed with any of the X or openoffice settings. For almost as long as I've had the computer, I've been getting random X crashes. The screen goes to black, dumps some text, and I'm given a series of options of what to do (low-graphics mode, diagnostics, exit to terminal). From what I've gathered, this only happens when openoffice is running (it can be in the background, it does not have to be the active application).

I really have no idea what to do or what is causing this. I've attached a log, and I will gladly attach whatever else might be useful. I've looked on the internet for help, and while I do see a lot of X and openoffice issues, they seem to be related to higher end hardware than I have. I'm running Ubuntu 10.4, openoffice.org 3.2, and using an Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller .

Note: the attached log is a text file, but I made it a .doc because it barely exceeded the file size limit for .txt .

General :: OpenOffice.org 3 Waits 25 Seconds Before Opening?

Jan 8, 2011

I'm on Fedora 14, and OpenOffice 3.3.0 takes a long time to open (about 30 seconds, sometimes less). It isn't a CPU or disk performance issue, it's just simply a very long delay before the program opens. It appears to be a frivolous network connection timing out. According to Wireshark, it tries to look up:

dulcimer.(none)
which fails, after which it tries to look up:
dulcimer.(none).mylitestream.com
(dulcimer is my hostname, and LiteStream is my ISP)
Is there a way to work around this bug in OpenOffice?

Ubuntu :: OpenOffice: Temporary Hang On Opening Document?

Feb 14, 2011

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit with all the current updates. It was a clean install, but I did import my previous home folder. The only things I can think of that depart from a standard installation are that I'm running an encrypted drive with LVM and I've installed some extra fonts.Whenever I open an OpenOffice document (write or calc) for the first time in a session, I get a 5-7 second hang that locks up only OpenOffice. It can be an existing document or a fresh document. The hang doesn't occur until I can actually see the document. In Write, I can actually type the first few letters of a sentence before the program hangs. Once the 5-7 seconds elapses, everything in OpenOffice seems to work just fine, and the remainder of the sentence I typed appears.

This happens whether I start OpenOffice from the command line, by double-clicking a file, or from a launcher. There are no error messages in Terminal. Once OpenOffice has been opened in a given session, even if I close it, any documents subsequently opened open fine without the hangAccording to this thread, the problem seems to have existed in Lucid, too, though I don't recall experiencing it then. I tried adding the recommended line to my /etc/hosts file as described here, but it didn't help. One of the posters filed an issue with OpenOffice.org that includes some technical explanation for the issue that's way over my head.The other solution offered in the above thread, using OpenOffice open/save menus, doesn't seem to apply in my situation, but I tried it anyway and it made no difference.

It looks like the issue isn't limited to Ubuntu, as I found this post on the openSuse forums that describes the same problem I'm having. Unfortunately, no solution for me there, either.I have tried renaming the .openoffice.org and .openoffice.org2 folders, rebooting, and retesting, but that didn't work.As annoying as it is, I could easily live with it since once I've opened OpenOffice it's not a problem, except for one thing: I'm running a bash script using unoconv to automate processing some documents, and it will fail due to the hang if I don't open OpenOffice first, even though the script itself opens a headless session of OpenOffice. It seems like the 5-7 second lag trips it up. I guess I could come up with a workaround in the script, but I'd like to try to fix OpenOffice, first

Ubuntu :: Opening MS Word Docs In OpenOffice - Changing Format

Feb 18, 2011

I noticed that files that were written in MS Word 2003 change when opened in Open Office 3.2.1 This usually involves tables, lists, and image placement, as well as page margins and boundaries. It sometimes makes it annoying when reading files saved in MS Word .doc format that other people send me. Does anyone know if there is an extension to fix this? Or settings that can be changed? Also, was this addressed in version 3.3.0 of OpenOffice? Has anyone tried it on LibreOffice? I don't want to install VirtualBox, Windows, and Office to read Word files properly. I dislike MS.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: OpenOffice Makes Video Refresh And Gnome Crash?

Jun 30, 2010

Since upgrading to Lucid a few days ago I'm having intermittent problems (90% of the time)with opening OpenOffice files.When I open up a spreadsheet (.ods) in OO, (whether OO was already open or not) my screens go black, then flash on and off for 30 seconds (ish) as if trying to change the refresh rate.Sometimes this results in Gnome crashing and restarting itself. it settles down and is OK. On a few occasions I have had to change terminal and manually restart gdm.

Here's my environment;

Dell Latitude D620
nVidia GeForce Go 7300 (according to hwinfo)
Ubuntu Lucid 32-bit (upgraded from Jaunty)
2 GB RAM

I've got the recommended "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current)" hardware driver and the NVIDIA X Server Settings applet, which says my NVIDIA driver version is 195.36.24. I'm running dual screens (1440x900 and 1280x1024) using TwinView. After a flicker, here is what I find in the Xorg.0.log;

OpenSUSE :: Network File Transfer Crash

Dec 18, 2010

HARDWARE SPECS:

- Intel P4 3.2GHz
- Gigabyte G32M-S2L
- 3GB RAM DDR2
- 3 x 1TB RAID5 (MDADM)
- 1 x 1TB OS Drive

New Linux user here. I'm running 11.3 x64 gnome (runlevel3) on my headless home file server. I've mounted my RAID array onto /shared and have setup samba (through Yast) for file sharing. However I am having an issue when I transfer multiple small files over the network (i.e music) it will crash the box. I am unable to reach it through ping or SSH. It is also physically unresponsive where by connecting a keyboard or mouse to the system will not work.

Looking through /var/log/messages does not indicate any sort of issue. I've tried turning off unnecessary programs (rTorrent etc) to make sure it isn't overloading the connections however the box still crashes. Although transferring files locally from HDD to HDD does not crash the server.

OpenSUSE Install :: Mount A Live Compressed File System For Reading & Writing From A LiveCD/DVD Image?

Jul 9, 2011

On a Linux CD/DVD, there are compressed filesystem images for the live version for KDE or Gnome for example, but they have no extension, but they are clearly an image file ( compressed filesystem images for the live version before installation ) !!

I was wondering, How do I mount these compressed filesystem images, after I copy the ISO content of the CD/DVD on my system .... I want to edit some files or packages and make some changes, like if I want to customize a live version of gnome for example ! ... ( I know you might be tempted to tell me to use KIWI etc to customize etc ..... ) ... but I want to be able to mount the compressed file system image, then edit it for reading and writing while it is in a subdirectory on its own ... i want to open it ! ... is there a way to do this ??? ... these type of files have no extension ...

i can open this compressed filesystem image then to edit for read & write ... before I roll it back again ..... If and when I succeed .... what should I watch out for ? ... will the same compressed file image but slightly modified work again ?

PS. that same question could be kind of translated or be extended like : how do I use unionfs/squashfs programs on the command line to mount these image files with no extension for read & write mode ???

Applications :: OpenOffice.org - Where Is The Executable File

Jan 14, 2011

I have recently installed OpenOffice.org and I can't find any executable file that actually starts up OpenOffice.

What is the equivalent to the old "soffice" executable which previously would start up OpenOffice?

I installed by executing the "setup" program after extracting the archive, I selected pretty much all of the items to be installed (at least the essential ones) and then let it install -- I didn't get to choose the path to install to, but I saw it stated that this would be installed under /opt.

I see two directories:

Neither of which contains any readily identifiable file that is the main program. What file should I execute?
