View 8 Repliesafter trying several pci and usb network cards none were able to have their ssid broadcasted. The question that i have is: Can a suse box be converted to act as an acces point without the use of atheros based hardware, without switching over to ubuntu and or debian, without the use of openwrt?

I am thinking about buying Belkin's Network USB Hub so that I can plugin usb devices and share it over network(Debian based computers). The device's website and spec can be found at: [URL]. Is this device supported by Debian Etch or Lenny? Did anyone used it on any versions of Debian
where it worked? Is there a Linux driver for it?
Every time i try to click it, in the file manager, I get the error failed to open "/ on" The specified location is not supported.
I need to be able to connect to my storage server...
The linksys AE1000 is not supported by linux according to the linksys website. Are there any workarounds? I use this network adapter to connect to my wireless network, and it is basically useless at the moment.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLooks like this has gone walkabout. It used to be in the Education repo and still is but is missing several updates. This repo has also gone missing from wiki pages and from list of community repos in YAST. Seems a bit suspicious as though something has been changed again.Is GRAMPS now in a different repo or is it no longer supported in openSUSE? Is Education repo defunct?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis thread is just for those with newly defined ATI legacy cards. As our issues seem to be a little different since we are no-longer supported in the new 11.2 by ATI. The following products have been moved to the legacy software support structure (including Mobile and All-in-Wonder Variants):
* ATI Radeon 9500 Series
* ATI Radeon 9550 Series
* ATI Radeon 9600 Series
* ATI Radeon 9700 Series
* ATI Radeon 9800 Series

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running OS 11.2x86_32, KDE 4.4.3 with the latest updates and a problem has cropped up with Amarok (version 2.3.0). When starting the app it keeps saying there is no mp3 support and do I want to install it. Tell it yes, and restart the program and it says the same thing at each start. What's strange is that mp3's play just fine. I've run the 10 steps for troubleshooting and all the codecs are fine, this appears to be an Amarok only problem. SMplayer works fine, Kaffeine and VLC too.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am receiving the following error when trying to enable Compositing in Desktop Settings for KDE4 in openSuse 11.3-Xen
Code:
Error: Compositing is not supported on your system. Required X extensions (XComposite and XDamage) are not available. I want to have desktop effects enabled but can't seem to figure out how to get this done. "Advanced" Tab is greyed out. "Enable desktop effects" is greyed out.

This worked to get X up and running in the Xen kernel. However, I'm pulling what hair I have left trying to figure out how to enable compositing in Xen. The entire motivation for my upgrade was this one feature (amongst some other things).
Please show me where I'm going wrong. I hope this is not a "live with it" type of scenario due to my using Xen.
Is there a way to determine which devices (by mfr, model, whatever) are supported by the drivers included in the 11.4 DVD? I'm sure this is a naive question,
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Nvidia GEforce 8400 GS card, and the drivers from the Nvidia repository. When I try to enable Desktop Effects, I'm told that "Desktop effects are not supported on your current hardware / configuration." Clicking no, something starts using up 90-100% CPU, I can't tell what the rogue process is, top only shows the gconf daemon using 10-11% CPU. I have to log off to end it. What's up with the card not being supported? I can't find a list, but I'm sure this is new enough to be included. Is there a way other than top to trace the rogue application? I've never seen anything like this before, top has always been reliable. I have Gnome 2.30 on openSUSE 11.3.

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhich chipsets are on the PCi and PCie cards, EW7722in and EW-7612PIn, and whether they can be made to run on a linux system. My system is recent (Linux home 2.6.37.2-0.6-default kernel) Do they have the same chipset as EW-7711In, which I notice has explicit linux support? Now this was on the 3/03/2011, and I had given up getting any kind of useful support, but I got a reply today. I hope they wont mind if I quote them:

I looked some new motherboards and most of them has these audio chips:
AUDIO: VT1708B
AUDIO: Realtek ALC1200
AUDIO: Realtek ALC800
how can I check, if they are supported in kernel 2.6.30? I looked at alsa page, and no information I have seen there. oldcpu, as I understund you, is not so important what audio chip is, but it is important to determine what hardware audio codec a device has, right? Let?s see Realtek ALC889 In realtek page: Realtek I can see details.
leaving the discussion is this logical or not. If I download the whole www folder to my hdd for example: from [URL] to /mnt/repos/oss/ and replace in package manager source [URL] with local one file://mnt/repos/oss will this work as it works from http server? What i want to do is to backup chosen repos before my linux release will be not supported anymore.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install oracle (11g R2) on my OpenSuse (11.3), but when I do startup nomount, I got an error:
ORA-00854: MEMORY_TARGET not supported on this system
On web, I found that I need to increase tmpfs because of my memory_target oracle init parameter. I do it with:
mount -t tmpfs shmfs -o size=3G /dev/shm
(previous value to tmpfs (df -h) is 2G).
After that 'startup nomount' runs well, but after reboot, values are the same. So, how to 'save' this new value?
I downloaded OpenSUSE today hoping I could install it on my aging computer, a Pentium 3 1.3GHz, 512MB RAM and a 3dfx Voodoo 5500. When booting into the live CD, I cannot get it to go to the installation. After the GRUB screen (Or whatever is used) to choose install, I just get a black screen. Is 3dfx not supported by OpenSUSE?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just got a new computer and I have been busy setting it up with openSUSE 11.2. I am trying to install the Nvidia proprietary driver for my graphics card, a Geforce GTX 260, but it will not work. I added the Nvidia repository and I am installing the driver for GeforceFX series cards but every time I restart I get a command prompt and if I try to start x it says that my card is not supported. This is really getting frustrating, I need the proprietary driver so I can play DDO with Wine.

kernel: [time] sisfb: Fatal error: Unable to reserve 16MB framebuffer memory
kernel: [time] sisfb: Is there another framebuffer driver active?
Apart from that I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. The computer isn't displaying immediate symptoms to me. I checked the hardware sticky and when I have a few hours I can work through
HTML Code:
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_graphics_cards but I don't have that kind of time at the moment, so I wanted to check that that was the route I should be going down before I did. I googled this stuff but everything seems to start from a knowledge base above mine and leaves me clueless.
On Linux Mint (Gnome) i used to go to Network drive. that is on the right hand side of Nautilus there is a short cut for Network. in there i could see my network hard drive and other laptops connected to the network, and i could access my files. but on OpenSuse, when i open the network folder, nothing comes up. may be it needs some sort of configuration.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm new to networks and servers, been using Linux on the desktop for a while now but always relied on the company's IT guy for setting up everyting LAN-based.
Now I want to build up my home LAN, and want to do it with Linux. I've managed to set up LAMP and file share servers.
What I am looking for is information on what I need, and how to set up a server for the following tasks:Centralized Username and Password, that when the user logs into any one of the desktops in the LAN, it uses this for authentication
Something that allows this authentication to be utilized in other servers (file access, web access, router logging, etc.). Something to make it easier for continuing permissions from one service to another. e.g. I have IPCop filtering content, and it has provisions for tracking who is making which request if there is authentication going on. (optionally) to run a script for mounting Samba shares or mapped network drives so from one system to the next. For example, in whatever box somebody logs in, it mounts a server share ("smb://Myserver/users/<username>") to a local folder ("my_user_share").
So;user "fred" ="smb://Myserver/users/fred" and user "wilma" = "smb://Myserver/users/wilma" but both would find their respective one mounted under "~/my_user_share". This would be irrespective of which box they are loggin in with. If the server share location changes (new server/servername), I change it on the server so the next time they log in it points to the right place.
I guess it is similar to Window's Active Directory, though I'm not sure what it's called, how to configure it and what it is and is not capable of doing.
