OpenSUSE Network :: Cannot Connect To Ftp Server From Dolphin
Aug 4, 2010
I have an openSUSE 11.2 and I was trying to connect to a FTP server from Dolphin application but it didn't work. (I used ftp://<IP ADDRESS> in the address field)
From CLI or using FileZilla I can connect to that server.
I know that this is easy, but I am confused.I have three computers all with a clean install of SUSE 11.2. Two of them use wifi with the internet and the third is wired.I would like to share files between them all of them. When I go to dolphin/network there is nothing there and I don't know how to set it up.
Having a bit of a minor issue with samba on Opensuse 11.4 64 bit. My problem is that I can't view my samba shares in Dolphin although I know they are there. If I bring up dolphin using the Opensuse shortcuts to samba I get this
My computers / drives attached to my network should be viewable here yet they are not. However, if I type in the address directly I can view and access my shares.e.g.
Here is a copy of my smb.conf
Code: [global] workgroup = farcusnet netbios name = ThinkPad passdb backend = tdbsam name resolve order = bcast host lmhosts wins printing = cups
I'm having a real problem with intermittent ssh disconnections? It's the same thing regardless if it's over ethernet or wireless, and nfs shares don't have any problems at all.
Upgraded two machines to 11.3 in the past 2 weeks. NFS is broken on both, in different ways. The problem I'll mention here is that the nfs server is running, but clients can't connect.
The server is running: tinderbox:~ # /etc/init.d/nfsserver status Checking for kernel based NFS server: idmapd running mounted running statd running nfsd running
It has a valid export list: tinderbox:~ # showmount -e Export list for tinderbox: /usr/local/share/common 192.168.1.0/24
The export exists: tinderbox:~ # ls -lR /usr/local/share/ /usr/local/share/: total 4 drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4096 Jan 2 12:10 common
/usr/local/share/common: total 0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 2 12:10 test.txt
But attempts to mount the export are unsuccessful, both from the local machine: tinderbox:~ # mount.nfs 192.169.1.200:/usr/local/share/common /mnt -v mount.nfs: timeout set for Sun Jan 2 12:14:19 2011 mount.nfs: trying text-based options 'addr=192.169.1.200,vers=4,clientaddr=192.168.1.200' mount.nfs: mount(2): Connection timed out mount.nfs: Connection timed out
...and from an OpenSUSE 11.0 machine. moira:~ # mount.nfs 192.169.1.200:/usr/local/share/common /mnt/tmp/ -v mount.nfs: timeout set for Sun Jan 2 11:52:17 2011 mount.nfs: text-based options: 'addr=192.169.1.200' mount.nfs: Unable to connect to 192.169.1.200:111, errno 110 (Connection timed out) mount.nfs: mount to NFS server 'rpcbind' failed: timed out, giving up
I've had NFS running on my local network for over a decade, and never had problems like this before.
until 2 weeks ago I had o.S11.3 on both my Siemens and Asus laptops. I have installed NX No Machine. ( I know it's not open source,I am using the free version). With commandline ( root) /usr/NX/bin/nxclient I was able to connect to the other machines. I got Qt: Locales not supported on X server, the NX menu popped up and I was able to connect by inserting resp codes. After fresh install of o.S.11.4 on the ASUS the commandline (root) answers:
xlib: connection to":0.0" refused by server xlib: No protocol specified nxclient: cannot connect to X server:0.0
The ASUS can still be reached from the other machines (one with o.S.11.3,the third one with o.S.11.2 ) SSH ( Lan)connections are all working forth and back between the machines, even to and from Win XP, however only from Win 7 on the ASUS, but that's a Win7problem. Comparing the installed xorg-x11- server-extra : on o.S. 11.3 Additional X servers ( Xmdx,Xephir,Xnest,Xvfb ) ,on o.S.11.4 the Xvfb is missing, might that be the reason?
So a while back I was able to mount a directory from my OpenSuse server as a NFS on an Esxi server. After restarting the Esxi server, the NFS became inactive and I was unable to remount it. The error given was that the Esxi client was unable to connect to the Suse server. I was looking into the showmount -a command on the Suse server and it showed the mount point on the Esxi server. Could this be causing the Suse server to reject new attempts to mount the directory? What else can I try to fix this problem? Also I should note that both servers can ping each other.
I have steup samba shares on my Susi pc. I get to the point where the server asks for a password for the user I have on the Susi box but when I enter the password it fails to connect. tried to add the user, password and enabled the user in the samba conf file. But not sure where it should appear I give below the smb.conf file:
# smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full commented # version at /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/examples/smb.conf.SUSE if the # samba-doc package is installed.
I was fiddling around and unchecked the lda api thingy when I was experimenting with TLS now I can't connect to the ldap server ...is there any way to get it back.
With SUSE-9 I used pptpconfig to connect to a Windows VPN Server. With openSUSE-11.3 I created a VPN Network Connection, however I have no idea how to start the network connection.
I want to ssh in to my server (on lan) using Dolphin, so i open location bar ssh://user@ipadd I then get Term open up ask for password then sayes connected but I dont get a folder view in dolphin, I can do it ok on Ubuntu this way ( using nautilus)
I have x11 forwarding enabled in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on a suse 11.2 32 bit box running kde I can open x apps on a windows machine using xming and putty just fine, but when I boot the same machine into suse 11.2 64 bit using kde and try using konsole I get: cannot connect to x server
The command I'm using to log in is: ssh -X -l username host I doubt the problem is with the server I'm logging into or it wouldn't work in windows, not really sure what to look for as I've never had a problem using x11 forwarding from a linux client before only windows ones
On one machine I have OpenSuSE 11.4 and the other is Windows 7. From OpenSuSE I can connect to the Windows 7 machine running Tight VNC using KDRC and no problems. But I get a message of 'Failed to connect to server (192.168.1.1)' when I go from the Windows machine to the OpenSuSE machine. ON the OpenSuSE machine, the firewall has VNC and VNC Sercver allowed in the firewall. In the Remote Administration, 'Allow Remote Administration' is checked and Open port in firewall is also checked. Why can I not connect? Also, how do I set what the password is on the OpenSuSE machine?
After installing 11.4, I need to type in the command to update the firmware for a broadcom wifi adapter. Then I needed to reboot, twice, before the system knew to use the adapter (where the adapter wifi light goes from orange to blue).
Then I needed to add my wireless network and type in my key. But the key does not take. If I click on my wireless network icon, it just re-asks for the key and does not connect nor give any other message. Network icon continues to display no connection.
So I need to reboot again.
When the system starts again, the adapter is blue, I click on the icon for my wifi network and it connects without asking for my key and I can then set to start my wifi by default.
All settings are correct as far as i can tell. The wep key works on all my windows boxes. When i have connect automatically enabled it never tries to connect. if I go to edit it it pops kde wallet up i put in credentials. wallet goes away then nothing happens. if i double click connection to my router also nothing happens. I have the wep key in there and i even made it visible to make sure.
I am using OpenSuse 11.3 and Network Manager is giving me a headache by not connecting to WEP based wi-fi network. It works in a wi-fi at my office while at my home, it shows / detects the network but keeps asking me over and over.
I installed OpenSuSE 11.3. The only "extra" package I put in after the install was VirtualBox-ose. The firewall is disabled. I gave the machine a static IP address. I can get to the Internet from the machine. I enabled sshd to start on boot with "chkconfig sshd on" and also verified the service is running on the machine. I can ssh user@localhost from the machine as well.
When I try to connect to SSH from another machine, I get a connection refused. I verify that the firewall is down. I also try to get to VNC -- same problem: Connection refused. I ping the machine for fun. If I try to SSH again, it sometimes gives me a logon? I would check the server logs for the connection refused, but I wouldn't know where to look. I started in /var/log/messages, but nothing seemed to jump out there. I also find it strange because I can RDP to a windows guest running under VirtualBox. The Windows guest uses Bridged Network and DHCP.
I also find it interesting that I sometimes type a "ping google.com" from the 11.3 box and it will just hang - no output. Then I open firefox and get to the internet. All of a sudden, ping starts to give output. Could this be a neetwork card issue? A configuration issue? I don't know where to start.
I am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.
I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.
the thing is that I cant use Network Manager to connect to Internet, because it simply do not connect. The connection, although, awailable throught yast when i choose "traditional method with ifup", so everything is just fine, but if i need to reconnect, i have to reboot. How do I setup a !working! connection through Network Manager, or maybe i do not do something properly.
I just installed opensuse 11.4 and i'm not being able to connect to my wireless lan. It recognizes my network, but when I click "ok" after typing the password it is like I had done nothing, no connection is set at all.I guess it is probably some configuration stuff since my notebook recognizes all available wireless networks. Sorry about the lack of details, but that is all I got.
i've installed openSuse 11.2 on my laptop (dell studio 15).Today at work i tried to connect to the wireless network, but i couldn't. First, the network card wasn't being recognized, but after a long time trying i was able to set it up, for this i used this command:
Code: zypper in broadcom-wl broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop So now, the networkmanager detects all the networks around, but i cannot (or i don't know
I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:
Code: the-matrix:~ # mysql start ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) or Code: the-matrix:~ # rcmysql start Starting service MySQL warning: /var/mysql/mysql.sock didn't appear within 30 seconds chmod: cannot access `/var/run/mysql/mysqld.pid': No such file or directory
I downloaded Slackware64-current to give it a try on my laptop and all went well as usual. However when trying to connect to another computer from Dolphin via sftp I was informed that sftp is an 'invalid protocol'. I can use ftp, though. Same thing happens with Konqueror. Using Konsole I can successfully start sftp, although that is not exactly what I want or need. For me, this is really a major problem as my office computer can only be accessed at home via secure shell. I need to be able to upload/download files and folders from there and from other machines. I wasn't really aware of how heavily I depend on this until now. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, is there a fix or a workaround?
I'm trying to setup PS3 media server on my new OpenSuse 11.2 and I'm being unable to connect to the PS3. The multimedia server seems to being working ok, only it has not appear on XMB.
I've been searching on PS3 Media Server forums and try a couple of solutions regarding /etc/hosts and adding full qualified domain name of server to it, but it doesn't seems to work.
I cannot connect to my server via ssh from outside my office network. Ssh from inside the network poses no problem. From outside the network, I can ping the server so I assume that there is no problem with the IP address. I am quite new to linux networking so pls forgive me if this is a stupid question. Is there any changes I need to make in the sshd_config file?
