OpenSUSE Network :: Samba Creates Multiple Copies Of Video In /tmp
Dec 30, 2009
I have a desktop and a laptop both running opensuse 11.2 with kde4. I have a samba share on my desktop. I tried opening a video on that share from my laptop (wirelessly) with Dolphin/SMPlayer. Here's what happened:
The video started downloading and the system tray notified me it would take 25 minutes. I thought that was too long (video is 350MB) so I checked the download speed and it was about 2 MB/s. It didn't make sense but I let it keep going.
25 minutes and 3.4 GB later, the download finally "finished"--according to the system tray. However, I checked my system monitor and something was still downloading at 2 MB/s. I confirmed with "df -h" that I was losing 2MB of space a second. At this point I only had about 700MB of disk space left so I rebooted (I wasn't sure how else to stop the download).
After digging around on / I found my video at /var/tmp/kdecache-londy/krun and it was 350MB. Then I found multiple copies of the same video, of varying sizes, on /tmp/kde-londy totalling 3GB.
I deleted the tmp files and tried it again. This time instead of clicking on the video to play it, I tried copying it to my laptop. Same thing started to happen but I didn't let it continue.
I run in a script a mailx command like this:cat logfile | mailx -s'the logfile' to-me@..This works most of the time, but in some cases mailx automagically turns logfile into an attachment called 'attachment.bin'.I think this may be because 'logfile' contains a few control characters or escape codes? How can I tell mailx to be less intelligent and treat it as an ASCII text file?
When I converted to OpenSUSE 11.2, and went through YaST HTTP Server Configuration, creating my virtual hosts under the Hosts tab, YaST combinedm all int ile,"/etc/apache2/vhosts.d/ip-based_vhosts.conf".I did google and read, [URL]for further assistance.I'd like each virtual host to have its own file under vhosts.d, and wondering why YaST did not do that. The file /etc/apache2/httpd.conf laid out the file structure, and all vhosts.d/*.conf files are included. Is there a way to tell YaST to create separate files for each vhost, or does the user have to manually do it?
When I select the "Open with...Other Application" context menu item I get a dialog box with multiple copies of the available programs. All of the offending program entries are Wine programs. How do I remove the extra programs from this list.this is a small problem but kind of annoying..
I recently inherited a server that I'm now looking after, and when browsing the running processes I came across a number of processes labelled:"/usr/local/apache-2.2.6/bin/.libs/lt-httpd -k start"
At any one time there are between 10 and 15 of them running.Googling the issue has been surprisingly unhelpful... can anybody even tell me what this process is, much less what sort of issue might result in multiple running copies? I'm running Debian Etch (release 4.0).
I'm using postfix and the always_bcc option to backup the emails which are passed through my MTA. The problem is that (with spamassassin and clamav running as virtual-smtp agents) I get three copies bcc-ed through to the backup account. Is there something I can do to stop the bcc from being carried out on the internal filters and only work on the final send or mailbox delivery?
I have a 64bit linux server with 5 virtual hosts on it. When someone fills out a contact form on one of the sites...I get 15-20 copies of the same email. At first I thought it was the kids clicking send multiple times because the first emails were coming from the children's ministry "Email The Cast" section. But then I started getting multiples from the adult sites too. All contact forms are set to come to me.
What's stranger is that my registration section for one of the sites uses the SAME php script (different file) to email me a notification that someone has registered but I only get 1 copy of that.
So, this is a simple download scheduler program code. Which creates multiple threads of the downloading process - wget (i could also have used 'curl' instead 'wget').Can you debug this code?
I want to take a graphics file and make 10 copies of it to the same directory, each with 001, 002, or some such designation at the end of each file name so they have discrete files names. Is this possible using cp?
I become to use tar with incremental feature for archiving data under ubuntu. But when I try to extract archive later under windows (using gnu tar also) it creates many directories like this:
I recently replaced my windows fileserver with one running Ubuntu. One thing I've noticed (which is a annoying) is that when I copy files between two samba shares from my windows machine, it copies the file through my PC to the new destination. On windows shares it just did some sort of local copy (ie it took about 2 seconds) rather than 3-4 minutes. Is this the normal behaviour, is there any way around it on Linux
I am trying for the last many days to setup my opensuse 10.3 as Samba PDC Server according to the URL mentioned below, but in vain:How to setup SUSE 10.3 as Samba PDC - openSUSE When ever I try to join a Windows XP machine to the domain setup on Opensuse, I get the error:'The following error occured while attempting to join the domain. The network path was not found'. What could be the reason for this error despite of the fact the I am able to ping the FQDN of the PDC from the XP machine, but the XP machine simply denies to join the domain because of the above mentioned error.
Installed a security update for samba tonight via Opensuse updater. Now, when trying to access my home network an authentication box pops up (never used to)Asks me to enter authentication for my home network.I enter my username and password and hit enter. After a few seconds the authentication box pops up again askingfor the same indicating I have entered the wrong username / password combination (which I know I have not).
A good video converter software for openSUSE to covert videos into multiple formats.it will be easy if it ask me to covert videos for a specific device like i-pod,Nokia,Samsung mobiles.
I setup a debian home server some time ago and have successfully setup samba so my windows machines can access them and upload/download data off it.I have setup opensuse on this desktop and after allowing smb through the firewall I now seem to have read only access to the smb shares.I am using the same username and password as I do on my windows machine, so in theory smb server should see my username and password and allow me read/write, like it does in win7. Is this correct?
Having just thought about it I think samba is just a tool to get shares working between linux/windows and macos. Is samba even the best tool for linux - linux sharing? how do I get read/write access to my shares in opensuse?or do I use another program to see my shares?I'm a bit new to this linux- linux sharing so I apologies.
Samba is working correctly if Susefirewall2 is off. I have added Samba client and Samba Services for extern access but samba is not working when firewall is now on. Which services should I also add ?
(Running openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3). I finally got my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) mounted using ifuse and libimobiledevice, using the following command: Code: ifuse ~/iPhone And I was really pleased to finally copy some music files onto my iPod using gtkpod. I navigated to the ~/iPhone/iTunes_Control/Music folder and found the folders F00 to F49. Output of ls -l */*:
I'm almost certain the files have been successfully copied to the device, because I've unmounted it, using: Code: fusermount -u ~/iPhone and when I re-attached it, the files were still there.
So I just have a few problems: 1) gtkpod won't update the iPod database, even though a dialogue window opens and says it is doing just that. Does anyone know why this might be? 2) Dolphin doesn't recognise that the iPod is mounted? the command dmesg recognises it, but there's no fstab for it. I wonder if anyone knows how I could create a udev rule to automatically mount the iPod when I plug it in. And how can I make dolphin recognise it? 3) Amarok doesn't recognise that it is mounted. I have both 1.4 and 2. I presume this is for the same reason that Dolphin doesn't recognise it.
These message have started appearing the system logs </var/log/messages and /var/log/warn> since Mar 2, 2011. They seem to occur about every 13 minutes (780 seconds). What could it mean? Is it serious?

I have setup samba server, set NMBD, SMBD & NTPD from system services and set apparmor to complain but I am still unable to read any network drives. I have checked the firewall and seen that samba is set to enable for internal allowed services. Also should I be changing the NMBD, SMBD & NTPD to complain from App armor?
When I access my OpenSUSE box's samba shares from another PC I am able to browse them, but am not able to follow symlinks.I've had the problem before on Ubuntu and fixed it by adding the following lines to my /etc/samba/smb.conf
I'm familiar with load balancing.. but Is it possible to actually bond multiple DSL lines together? I hear of ways to bond using MLPPP but that requires support from an ISP. Is there a way to actually bond without support from my ISP, or use say a cable modem and a DSL line together for faster speed / diversity?
I have opensusu 11.3 on my laptop and windows7 on first desktop, and XP on second desktop. Also, on my opensuse laptop I have installed XP as virtual OS in vmware player.I have setup samba using this guide that was given to me on this forum. From opensuse laptop I can see my Win 7 desktop, but cant log in. I enter Win 7 username and password, but it doesn't let me in.
Now, when I start XP trough vmware I can see win 7 desktop and connect it with username and password and browse my shares. On laptop, file sharing works both ways between host opensuse ang guest XP.On second desktop computer with XP, and I can connect to it from opensuse laptop normally.
I am having problems with samba, I went to the yast samba setup and thought I configured it but now I am stuck. I just want to really set up sharing my printer and one folder. any help will be appriciated I have a linksys router, windows vista home 32 on a laptop, opensuse 11.1 64 with windows xp home 32bit running in seemless mode on a virtualbox.
i'm following the tips from Samba and Suse: HowTo Set up an openSUSE-Windows Home Office LAN/Network. Versions 10, 11 to set up samba and tweak it to my needs.
I wonder how to get Samba share access working well...Dolphin supports Samba but it doesn't really mount anything, it seems... Non-KDE Applications therefor can't access samba that way. In Gnome there was a workaround for the same problem. You could simply go to ~/.gvfs in any application and find the samba mounted there. Is there anything like that in KDE? I set up a Samba mount via /etc/fstab for now but that is quite annoying because it fails after each Suspend, changing WLAN Access Points, etc. Then I have to go to the console and manually launch sudo mount -a to get it working again. How can I make things more comfortable?
P.S.: I'm even up for using something else than Samba to talk to my fileserver. However I don't know of anything that would work better in this regard. (NFS would have the exactly same problem for example)
My Samba setup works just fine however whenever I do stop/start/restart. I get these errors in the logs: Jan 17 00:21:14 neutrino smbd[4297]: smbd_open_once_socket: open_socket_in: Address already in use Jan 17 00:31:20 neutrino smbd[4557]: [2010/01/17 00:31:20, 0] smbd/service.c:1009(make_connection_snum) Does anyone know what to think of these? My thought is since it works just ignore and probably the SuSE team will get to cleaning this up sometime.
i have an Opensuse 10.3 server running samba and i just wanted to know how i could attach ms dos clients to samba if thats possible,i tried downloading TCP/IP software for dos but i could not find anything on the net that works.
