View 9 RepliesI am using TATA Photon usb internet stick. It's a Huawei USB modem. OpenSuSe detects and shows it as mobile broadband. But can not connect to internet. Any1 has configured similar device before? It shows me in "network manager" but no option to active/connect it. In Windows I got auto dialer for Photon. And customer care says no support for Linux.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using Ubuntu since 7.04. It is really an amazing experience. I have some 8.10 machines which I use for my students and i don't want to change it right now to different version. On the other hands I want to install USB Modem (Tata Photon+) on Ubuntu 8.10. I have seen its working fine on Ubuntu 9.04 and even better with Ubuntu 10.04.
How to install drivers in Ubuntu 8.10 for proper support with Tata Photon. right now my usb modem is detected as usb storage. I have also tried the usb-switchmode stuff following some articles available on net. But with no real success.
I want to know the exact difference in 8.10, 9.04 and 10.04 as far as usb modem driver installation is concerned.
Or can I configure Ubuntu 8.10 in such a way that I can use USB Modem (Tata Photon) like we do in Ubuntu 10.04.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running ubuntu 10.04. I have a newly purchased TATA Photon+ Internet connection which supports Windows and Mac. On the Internet I found a article saying that it could be configured on Linux. I followed the steps to install it on Ubuntu from this link text. I am still not able to get online
Also, it is very slow, but I was told that I would see speeds up to 3.1MB.
I dont have wvdial installed and cannot install it from apt as I'm not connected to internet
Any one tried to connecting the internet using Tataphoton+?
Device details:
HUAWEI Mobile Broadband
Model: HUAWEI EC 152
According to manual, the device should be detected as /dev/ttyACM0. But no device of this name is created. 'lsusb' identifies the device.
The required packages like wvdial, wvstream are installed. I have tried all the possible ways. Also created /dev/ttyACM0 with # mknod /dev/ttyACM0 c 166 0
Link to manual, in case any one wants to read it [url]

View 2 Replies View RelatedHere is a method for connect usb modem in linux system.
I've created step by step process to configure the TATA/Reliance modem over linux..Pls go thru the link
I used this method to configure TATA photon+ but I hope similar way will also work for Reliance NetConnect Brodband+
Huwaie/ZTE Modem
Command Mode:
1) Check your NetworkManager rpm for Correct Installation
2) Set SELinux in permissive mode and switch to ROOT user or you can also use sudo..
3) If wvdial is not installed already, you've to install it from Fedora Repository. yum install wvdial
4) Run below command, it will detect your modem....wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
If this command can't detect your modem then try below commands
i) lsusb -v grep -i iManufacturer The above command will help you to know the manufacturer of you modem and to get its vendorId and productionid.
ii) lsusb -v From above command search the vendor id and product id your of modem and execute the below command
iii) modprobe usbserial vendor=XXXXXX product=XXXXXX This command will load your modem
Now run the command given in step 4.
5) Now open /etc/wvdial.conf file in your favourite editor. I used vim for this purpose.
vim /etc/wvdial.conf
Change your username and password with internet/internet. Save and exit.
6) Now try below command..
wvdial
7) Open /etc/resolv.conf or execute below command
You can also add some global DNS echo "nameserver 4.2.2.2" >> /etc/resolv.conf
8) try to ping any site
If you get the response then you are all set for the modem, ENJOY SURFING with high Speed
GUI Mode:
Right Click on the Netowk icon on your status bar
NetowkManager > Mobile Brodband > Add
Simply follow the instructions given in GUI and setup your modem
Then Left Click on NetworkManager ICON on status bar and choose your connection and connect,
If you face any problem then set SELinux ini permissive mode and then try.
I tested the GUI method for huawei modem but, for ZTE modem, it doesn't work, Please let me know if it works for you..

How do I connect to internet?
Is the driver for my device missing on my system?
After installing 11.4, I need to type in the command to update the firmware for a broadcom wifi adapter. Then I needed to reboot, twice, before the system knew to use the adapter (where the adapter wifi light goes from orange to blue).
Then I needed to add my wireless network and type in my key. But the key does not take. If I click on my wireless network icon, it just re-asks for the key and does not connect nor give any other message. Network icon continues to display no connection.
So I need to reboot again.
When the system starts again, the adapter is blue, I click on the icon for my wifi network and it connects without asking for my key and I can then set to start my wifi by default.
Now my wifi works fine.
I have a Canon MX860 network printer but I cannot get it to connect with my openSUSE 11.2 computer
View 9 Replies View RelatedAll settings are correct as far as i can tell. The wep key works on all my windows boxes. When i have connect automatically enabled it never tries to connect. if I go to edit it it pops kde wallet up i put in credentials. wallet goes away then nothing happens. if i double click connection to my router also nothing happens. I have the wep key in there and i even made it visible to make sure.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using OpenSuse 11.3 and Network Manager is giving me a headache by not connecting to WEP based wi-fi network. It works in a wi-fi at my office while at my home, it shows / detects the network but keeps asking me over and over.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed OpenSuSE 11.3. The only "extra" package I put in after the install was VirtualBox-ose. The firewall is disabled. I gave the machine a static IP address. I can get to the Internet from the machine. I enabled sshd to start on boot with "chkconfig sshd on" and also verified the service is running on the machine. I can ssh user@localhost from the machine as well.
When I try to connect to SSH from another machine, I get a connection refused. I verify that the firewall is down. I also try to get to VNC -- same problem: Connection refused. I ping the machine for fun. If I try to SSH again, it sometimes gives me a logon? I would check the server logs for the connection refused, but I wouldn't know where to look. I started in /var/log/messages, but nothing seemed to jump out there. I also find it strange because I can RDP to a windows guest running under VirtualBox. The Windows guest uses Bridged Network and DHCP.
I also find it interesting that I sometimes type a "ping google.com" from the 11.3 box and it will just hang - no output. Then I open firefox and get to the internet. All of a sudden, ping starts to give output. Could this be a neetwork card issue? A configuration issue? I don't know where to start.
how to connect my network data card to run internet on openSuse..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.
I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.
the thing is that I cant use Network Manager to connect to Internet, because it simply do not connect. The connection, although, awailable throught yast when i choose "traditional method with ifup", so everything is just fine, but if i need to reconnect, i have to reboot. How do I setup a !working! connection through Network Manager, or maybe i do not do something properly.
