i have a huawei e180 mobile internet usb stick in Portugal, that i use to get internet, but as i have switched to Linux , i was wondering if this would work, as before it would install software on the system to run the internet?

I used sudo wvdialconf create command to configure my phone's modem but no modem is detected. I configured bluetooth modem in "rfcomm1" and got success in connection but after a restart I am unable to connect again, throwing error "Modem not found".

I have reinstalled the program several times to no avail. *WINE to run the Optus program, however the program doesn't find the HUAWEI USB stick & *Via a Bluetooth connection (use mobile phone as a modem) didn't work either Anyhow, I have tried these and some other ways to get mobile to no avail.

i have ubuntu 11.04 installed through wubi. ubuntu seems to be able to identify hauwei mobile broadband e1750 but whenever i activate it, it looks like its trying to connect and than after a second, it re-connects if i carefully observe the signal symbol n the upper right corner.
it looks like as if it was blocked off everytime it connected, i have no clue

I am a user or consumer of Knoppix 5.1 and Knoppix 6.2, I see in 6.2 version a very usefully tool, an icon in task bar thats help my internet connection in auto, even if I use a mobile modem like Huawei E160, I only select a 'Auto Mobile Broadband (GSM) connection' and, voila, internet is active. Into version 5.1 don't exist this option. I need to find packages like network-manager.... and all relatives and install in 5.1 in correct order to success.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just want to tell everyone how good the Garmin/Asus A10 mobile phone is as an internet modem.I am in Australia and Mobile internet is an expensive thing to have. cheapest is dodo but i had a few problems trying out a friends usb modem.Anyway i was in the market for a Gps phone and discover this one. it is Android phone and pretty cheap so far it is very good gps, camera, mp3, and phone is excellent.BUT here is the clincher. when you plug it into the computer, the phone screen lights up and gives you 3 options.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI connect to the internet with a mobile broadband dongle. I would like to change the dns settings as page loading seems to be running slow. However, there is no ip tab associated with mobile broadband in the knetwork manager module. There is however for my vpn connection. I have found reference to the ip tab in other postings but alas I am stumped. Is it possible that the mobile broadband connection does not load that tab whereas users on wireless or ethernet have it? That is the only solution I can think of.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Huawei E173u-2 mobile broadband usb stick. It is recognised as a gsm-modem and shows up as such in the networkManager-plasmoid. I have set up the connection details for my ISP (O2), but I can't connect. When I click on the connection, "signal strength" is shown as well as "operator" (o2 - de). The "connection state" changes to "Preparing to connect", then "Setting network address". Then the modem vanishes and comes up again a few seconds later.

It seems like there is a connection for about 5 seconds, then the modem hangs up and restarts .
The stick works fine with our windows netbook, so I don't think it is a hardware failure.
How do I get this working?

The problem is that I have no clue what information I am supposed to give when configuring it through KNetwork manager. The password is disabled and I think the username should be telenor which is my ISP, the other info lines in KNetwork manager, however, I am very uncertain of, and I can't seem to get it working. I have switched from traditional setup with ifup to user controlled through Network Manager and the modem is detected. The module option seems to be loaded and the 'mode' of the stick seems also to be correct, it is not detected as a storage device at least.
I am a long time gentoo-user (~10 years). Just bought this new laptop and don't want to take the time to compile everything. During my search for a nice binary distro, I found the KDE reloaded CD, which I then downloaded. That was because I had a great hassle to find a Distro which supports the latest KDE, I was used by gentoo. Well, I am very impressed: Installation went flawless and the Distro is very up-to-date.
Well, now to one of my problems: I have this mobile internet stick:

However, my web browser, IM etc only work in root account.In user, knetworkmanager does show that my Huawei E160G is working fine, connected but I still can't surf the net & chat. I've included the dialout & uucp group for user account but that still doesn't resolve the problem

I use opensuse 11.3 whith the kernal 2.6.34-12.
So what i want to do:
1) get attached patch
2) install and extract kernel source
3) patching and compilation (only drivers/usb/serial subdirectory)
4) copy resulting modules to kernel modules directory
If I compile: make O=../temp prepare i get a mistake.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOpenSuse 11.4 Asus Netbook 1000H Following other members in the forums I have installed Opensuse 11.4 on the Netbook. In the early days Ubuntu Netbook Remix worked well for me. But this has been discarded, and the "one size fits all" Ubuntu had become slow and cumbersome. So..... onto my post. Opensuse is working well. The install went beautifully.
It detected the Wireless Internet and I am able to get on line. I also need to share the Internet connection to a desktop. This is done via a small network switch. Thus far I cannot do this. I tried to use ifup to configure a static ip but this busted my Wireless configuration. I went back to knetwork manager. Then I tried to set up the wired network using knetwork manager and under IPV4 "share" the connection. But this blanks out any possiblity of a static address and substitutes dhcp. My desktop cannot ping the this dhcp address. Ubuntu had this thing called Firestarter? - from memory. This configured the system to sharing the network.
I installed Suse 11.2 on clean HD. I cannot connect to the internet. Seems like Suse didn't install drivers for on board ethernet card. It is a Marvell Yukon 88E8056. I'm new to this and don't know how to install the drivers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have SUSE 11.0 set up to act as a router/firewall for my home network to the internet through a cable modem attached to an Ethernet card. When I was laid off several years back, I found information that let me connect my network to an ISP via a standard serial modem. I am considering going to the Sprint U1901 4G USB modem and dropping cable internet. Sprint claims the U1901 is Linux compatible. My thoughts are that using the 4G modem should be similar to the old dialup modem. I had a script that connected to the internet whenever internet traffic was detected. Unfortunately, I did not save notes on what I had done to setup the modem to dial automatically, and I have been unable to locate information that seems good to set this up again. I already know that all I had to do to get routing working was simply replace the internet port in the firewall/routing script with the port for the modem. So I assume that is rather trivial.
Would you please point me to a doc, perhaps SuSE specific, that gives reasonable directions on how to set up a "dial on demand" ISP connection? I assume that the 4G modem will be very similar to my old serial modem so that a dial on demand script will work. I did find a dial on demand howto, however, it did not seem to apply.
In short: browsing the internet with domain names does not work. The long version: I've configured my network with DHCP and ifup. Ping works on my internal net and with servers in the internet. Dig work's too! I get the right IP to the requested domain. When i try to access the internet using firefox or even wget i get an DNS error. For example wget is showing the following error: Resolving heise.de... failed: Name or service not known. wget: unable to resolve host address 'heise.de'
Again dig show me the right IP and if i add the entry to /etc/hosts it work's too! I've even tried it with manually setup of ip address, nameserver and default gateway but with the same result. Switching off the firewall has no effect on this problem, too.
I install from openSUSE-11.3-NET-x86_64.iso. Installation was succesfull, but after install all packet on test internet / update was error. And after log in in installed system internet not work. I use router with DHCP
