Okay something i find very odd. When booting the livecd network manager is there, i select my wireless net and connect. Yet i install and it doesn't appear, i click the network bit under the status tab of the computer menu and by default it's using ifup and not network manager...anyone else get that? Or is it supposed to be that way...seems rather unfriendly though.
View 9 RepliesI've not found how to configure more than one ip address with network manager.Nor with kde nor with plasmoid network manager.I need several virtual ip addresses for eth0 when the "default" of eth0 is connected i.e. "Connected to Auto eth0" should initialize the virtual interfaces.I have not found no even how to configure the ip address.I think this will be used from ifup config in yast or not?There I have the virtual interfaces but they are not taken from network manager.And last but no least: Is it possible that when using network manager the eth0 is enabled even no user has logged in?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI seem to have somehow mangled my my Ethernet and wireless's connection to the outside world on my Ubuntu 10.04.1 machine. I was trying to get a static local IP, and that worked great for a few days, until I lost all Internet access completely. However, I can connect to my router on my wired connection - but not the wireless.

Now, I just want everything to work as it did when I installed Ubuntu 2 months ago. How can I reset Network manager back so that it just works? I realise that don't need a static IP, it can only be 2 IPs, as I have 2 PCs only.
Or is there some better way to manage my networks? I'm not the best when it comes to those.
Recently I purchased a new laptop and installed openSUSE 11.3 x64 Gnome. I was running openSUSE 11.2 x86 Gnome on my previous laptop. Most things are working well, although still tweaking things here and there.
The biggest issue at the moment is starting the network. When I boot the system it loads into desktop (gnome) no problem, but then takes between 3 - 5 minutes to come up asking for Default Keyring Password before it will launch network manager. Everything else has loaded and it running fine except the network.
The first time I launched the system (after install) it worked perfectly, however soon as a set the password for the Default Key this started happening. The time delay before it launches does vary each time but always around 3 minute mark.
Have searched for this and am sure the answer is out there somewhere, but I can't find it. My wired network is configured as AUTO, and is DHCP, I can add a new static config, but can't get it to load, as the original AUTO always loads on a reboot. I need to be able to run sudo Network manager so I can reconfigure the default..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been encountering this problem, not only on 10.4, but on older versions too: I use a wifi router to connect my laptop to the Internet, but sometimes I need to connect directly to another computer to move some files over GLAN. But Ubuntu's Network manager doesn't allow me to configure the eth0 interface without specifying a gateway (no gateway = grey submit button), but when a gateway is specified, it always rewrites the default gw specified already by the active wifi connection and returns back after unplugging the eth cable.
Of course this can be solved by a few route commands, but this is unacceptable since it is needed to establish the cable connection without any further assistance from within and as well without replacing the default gw and thus breaking the Internet connection. Is there, please, any possibility how to prevent Network Manager from replacing these routes?
I use network manager applet 0.7.1. I had set the automatic wireless connection to my my wireless network (WPA key secured). Recently, I get the following problem: At the automatic connection, I get the message: Network manager applet (/usr/bin/mn-applet) needs default keyering. As I don't know what it is to type it and then, deny or OK, it doesn't get connected to my wireless network.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHearing the praises about fastness of xfce all over the net i decided to try it for my fav ubuntu i rightaway installed xubuntu (without creating a bakup of the names of programs that were going to be installed which i generally do to fully remove any utility that i install for test) i understood that fast for xfce actually meant light(stupid me). now i switch back to gnome onlt to find xfce stuff like pacmn file browser and wicd to name a few. i removed the pacmn browser but when i remove wicd the default network manager does not show up in the task panel i would like to know:
1.how to get back to gnome'z default network manager AND
2.the list of utilities installed when xubuntu-desktop is installed

View 1 Replies View RelatedIm trying to setup multiple domU through the default bridge setup. I am able to access only one of them through the network at a time. If you ping one of the domU it works perfectly but you cannot ping any of the others until you stop pinging the one and even then it takes a bit before you can. Ive looked around for a while and seen similar problems but nothing ever seems quite the same. Im probably missing something really stupid. Or is this the way the bridge is supposed to behave? Do i need to use a routed virtual network?

I installed openSUSE on one of my work system. The network port wasn't working when I was installing, but works fine now (checked in Windows). But for some reason, I am not able to configure the network. I used both Dynamic and Static IPs (both work fine in Windows) but still no go. I am using Yast Control Center for this purpose. I can't even ping the default gateway when I am using custom settings. When I use dynamic settings, it says Unreachable Network.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using an Acer Aspire 5536 AMD dual core laptop with a 64bit installation of Susie 11.4. Using 11.2 I had no problems connecting to the wireless router. As soon as 11.4 was installed, clean install, and the laptop rebooted, network manager failed to start, until manually invoked and then enabling networking through the system tray. Even after this it will not connect to a wired or wireless network sometimes for more than 30 minutes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and everything works fine except wi-fi card, of course. The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to connect to a wireless network, the network manager asks me for the network's password, then says 'setting network address' for 20 or so seconds, then asks me for some random Hex or ASCII key in the same type of window I put the password in (Secrets for Noel -- KDE Daemon). Since a key is already typed into the window, I press OK, which then causes the network manager to go back to 'setting network address', then the window pops up again and keeps repeating itself.

Im new in this world of linux and suse. I have just installed the opensuse 11.2 in a Dell Inspiron 5160. Such laptop has a BCM4306 Wireless LAN controller. When I tried to configure a wlan connection, I found that the firmware was not installed. After looking in different forums, I installed the firmware b43. Now, my wlan card is abled to find the wireless of my router.
I have tried to configure a connection with YAST as well as with Network Manager, but both cases failled. Specifically, when I use Network manager, Im able to see in the applet my connection, how strong is the signal, but I see a yellow symbol (in one forum, such a box is shown with a green symbol).
I have check many time all about the secutity, encryption, and so one and all seems to be correct. But when I open the mozila firefox or the konqueror browser, no chance to surffer in internet. Now Im just a step to become crazy. The drivers are ok, the information about the router and the keys are ok, but in such a way, I am still harmloss.

Also wrote the dns in resolv.conf but all in vain . it is not connecting neither dialing any number just shows "activating" but with no progress earlier in 11.1 i used kinternet (but i couldn't find it here) is there not any other dialer ? as i ve heard that n/w manager is quite troublesome.
All settings are correct as far as i can tell. The wep key works on all my windows boxes. When i have connect automatically enabled it never tries to connect. if I go to edit it it pops kde wallet up i put in credentials. wallet goes away then nothing happens. if i double click connection to my router also nothing happens. I have the wep key in there and i even made it visible to make sure.

I also use an NFS network.
I want to use a wireless network.
The problem is that network manager keeps insisting on asking kwallet for permission to start up the network. As a consequence boot hangs because the nfs network can't find the files in /etc/fstab because the network can't start because you can't see kwallet until it finishes booting.
I have options set in networkmanager to store the password in connection secrets in secure storage, and it insists on asking kwallet!
I don't want to get rid of kwallet because it's very useful otherwise - just not at boot time?
How do I modify the behaviour shown here?
I recently fixed an annoying problem and I thought it would be nice to share my solution here. The problem was that after a cycle of suspend/resume, Network Manager would only auto-connect to the same network as it was previously connected to. So, for example, if I suspended my laptop at home, and then I went to school and resumed it, it would try to connect to the home network, and then just give up. I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...
Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.
P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?
