View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm building a cheap htpc for my garage so I can watch the news, listen to music and browse a few car forums when needed. Here are the specs I am looking at:
2 512mb ddr2 800
AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W
500GB sata2 or 32gb ssd drive
Will Ubuntu be able to use a ssd? If so this box can pull movies in from my server. Which distro will play movies, watch live tv, and play music the best on the specs I provided?
I can't seek music cause i can't find that little circular on music track bar. I update fedora but there was not any good news for rythmbox
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've searched upon numerous links for a "fix" but they are either for older releases of fedora, or, I was able to make appropriate changes to the F12 KDE4 release such as the F11 how to fix pulseaudio and vlc guide in this forum
Problem: In order to get the sound to play on my system I have to go to PulseAudio Device Chooser and select default server, sink, etc. every login. I thought it was suppose to change it "permanently" , getting more specific here, when ever I play music in vlc I tend notice gaps/skips in my music very short skips .5 to 1 second sometimes 2 - 3, just now I was playing music flipping through some tracks then I am greeted with a nasty sound I cannot describe. Does anyone have a proper fix for this? Only result I came upon I have not tried yet was something with hda intel sound card and power settings, which feel will not work anyway
Here is my sound card: Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) Also not to mention, I use to get pop-ups notifying me of pulseaudio device not being to be found and asked to forget this device

It installed the gstreamer, however when I attempt to play music it doesn't unfortunately. Any comments on something simple I am missing or is there some other yum syntax I can use that can take care of this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy PPC iMac G3, 600 MHz, 768 MB ram machine (blue box) machine has 16 MB video ram and 256 MB backside L2 cache. When I insert a music CD, it doesn't seem to recognize it. Nor does an icon appear on the screen indicating that I loaded a disk. When I insert a movie, Lucid waits a moment, spins the disk, then ejects it after about 60 sec. Data disks act similarly, but no ejection. Disk spins momentarily, no icon appears on desktop, disk does not eject, No further action.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a program that can organize music and movies BUT, heres the deal. What I need to do for my collection is be able just to go through the 1000s of cd's and dvd's and be able to type them in AND then once I'm finished I need it to be able to put all of them in Alphabetical order. You should know that a couple hundred are burned so they will not register inn an online database to be able to find album or actor info.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Fedora 14 with wine installed and using that to run Spotify but I'm getting the error message-
'There is a problem with the sound decoder. Spotify can't play music'
I have done a search and installed the alsa bit of wine and changed the settings but I still get the above message.
My questions are- what does this mean and do I need to install something else. I have all the codes for mp3 etc.
I have a server (running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS) that has mt-daapd sharing all my music. I just recently changed all my desktops over to Fedora 15 from Mint 11 & came up with something I wasn't sure how to fix. When the desktops had Mint 11 on them if you opened Rhythmbox the mt-daapd share showed up on the left without me having to do anything (under Shared Music). Now that I have switched over to Fedora, I don't see that heading or my mt-daapd shares.I have tried Rhythmbox & Banshee. I can connect to it & play music, but I would like for it to just show up & I can't for the life of me figure this out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with streaming media (music and movies), well just transfer speeds period, from my Windows Vista desktop PC and my Ubuntu laptop On my Windows PC I have two folders shared: Music and Movies. I also have Media sharing enabled on my Windows PC so that I can stream my music and movies to my Xbox360 and playstation 3. My game consoles have no issues at all with playback speed and quality. My laptop is a dual boot with Windows and Ubuntu.
Streaming to my laptop under Windows is fine. Playback is great and copying files to and from my network shares(Music and Movies folders) is fast. However, under Ubuntu, I've mounted an SMB share to the Windows computer to each folder. When I browse to an MP3 song in VLC, I cannot even listen to it! It'll constantly buffer every few seconds. Forget about trying to watch a movie in VLC either! XBMC and Boxee are useless because they NEVER finish scanning the network folders to even add my content - let alone try to stream them.
Trying to copy 89MB (an album worth of MP3s) from the Windows server to Ubuntu was going to take 8hours! Something is definitely wrong here and I just can't figure it out. Should I be connecting to Windows using some other networking method besides SMB? My network is setup with my Windows Desktop connected via 100MB ethernet to a wireless router. The Router is dual broadcasting in G and N modes. I have excellent connection strength and full network rate (54MB for G) on my laptop. Again, networking is fine when using Windows on the laptop.
when I try to play music on amarok it just won't play, it just loads lyrics and then, nothing. on rytmbox everthing works fine but amarok don't work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a new HTPC and at the recommendation of those from this forum I installed MythUbuntu. My HTPC includes an Asus Blu-ray player. However MythUbuntu will not play my blu-ray disks. It will play regular DVDs just fine. What do I need to do for MythUbuntu to play Blu-ray disks?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell, I have a problem. I can't play any movies (.avi, .mpg, .wmv) with any reproductor. Everytime i open a movie with any player, the player closes immediately. I try with VLC "Tools --> Preferences --> Video --> Display --> Output" and i can see movies, but with a very very bad quality and the films stopped very times.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI can play many of my DVD movies in linux but there are some DVDs that won't play and the Available Devices notifier doesn't show up when I load these DVDs.
The DVDs that won't play in linux works fine in windows and my tabletop dvd player.
I do have libdvdcss2, libdvdread4 and other modules to play both encrypted and non-encrypted DVDs.
Like I said, I can play many of my dvd movies in linux with only a few that don't. Has anyone experience this situation in linux with some of your own DVD movies?
I have a debian home server right now, I'm using samba for my file server but I was wanting to stream my movies and music to my other computers. My family (the other users on the network) are NOT computer savvy, and to top it off they are using both Windows (xp) and Mac (Snow Leopard) machines. So I'm looking for software that is simple to use that will allow other operating systems to use it. I would think the easiest way would be to stream the music/movies through a home website. I have seen quite a few programs out there that stream music, but none for movies.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to cancel our cable tv. We don't really use it except for the kids and they don't care what's on as long as it's animated.
That being said, we have a ton of kid movies we want to try to burn to the computer and share those to the XBox. I know that Windows has a way of sharing files using Windows Media Player and sharing to the XBox, but I wasn't sure if there was another way.
this problem is quiet enoying, so i hope that somebody can help me tracking down this problem and find a solution. When i open vlc or exaile and queue a list of tracks, after playing some hours, the sound hangs and in the music player repeats the same 1 second audio part like a hickup, in video programs like vlc also the film freezes.
i have the latest libraries of gstreamer from packman installed and i also tried updating the pulseaudio libraries from multimedia repo. but the problem is still the same
I'm able to open DVD data discs, it's just playing DVD movies which is the problem now.
I've followed the official ubuntu guide on this and it hasn't worked. Even with all the numerous posts regarding the matter I'm still unable to find a fix.
Thus I'm posting here. If I can't get this to work I'm fooking back off to Windows because I've wasted far too many hours as it is.
I'm running P4 2.4 Ghz, NEC 2500a DVD-RW drive. I've also got two other DVD drives, a Pioneer slot drive which I get the exact same problem and another one which I haven't tested yet as it appears to be a software problem.
