OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Skipping While Listening To Mp3?
Jan 7, 2010
I'm running opensuse 11.2 64 bit, kde desktop. Have performed the one click installation for the restricted codecs from here:
Restricted Formats/11.2 - openSUSE-Community
No matter what I use (amarok, kaffeine, etc) there's heavy skipping / stuttering while playing back mp3 tracks.

I installed latests version Suse 64bit, and I have problems with Internet radio streams. Streams are skipping for 2-3 seconds every 10-20 seconds, or sometimes as long as 1-2 minutes. I tried GStremer and Xine engines, tried Amarok, Banshee.... always the same - radio streams skipping. I never found a way to increase buffer for Internet streams. Updated to last versions , still the same.

I've just made the move to openSUSE* and after the installer seemed to bork my xorg.conf because of my Wacom tablet things have been going quite smoothly. My only problem at the moment is that MP3 playback through Exaile, Banshee or Totem stutters and pauses several times per track or more. The only commonality I can see is GStreamer, but nothing is giving me errors to the console.
Code:
rpm --query --queryformat '%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}-%{ARCH} -> %{VENDOR}
' gstreamer-0_10-ffmpeg gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mp3 gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mpegdemux gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mpegmux gstreamer-0_10-plugins-bad gstreamer-0_10-plugins-base gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good-extra gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ugly
[Code].....
* I ditched Fedora to get better Monodevelop support after using Redhat 7.3 and 9 followed by FC 3 and 6 then Fedora 7, 8, 9 and 10. The Ubuntu forums seemed to keep giving me occasional answers to questions, but the Suse build service gave me the RPMs, when the requirements matched.

Check 2 in your error-check show this:
error: rpmdbNextIterator: skipping h# 1022 Head V3 RSA/SHA256-signatur: BAD, key-id 3dbdc284
Is there a serious error or is just the whole multi-media package missing. I have installed 11.2 from live CD.

I've been having these weird problem with sound after the last few updates. The background music of a ..... video or audio CD playback would be fine, but any vocal/commentary track that contains human voice would be all jumbed up and sounds like you are listening to it from underwater. The volume for the human voice part of the audio would also be a lot lower than the music track.
Not sure what the problem is, and the only way of solving it was through system restore (which actually takes more time than a reinstall). The test sound in YAST sounds fine (well, it's a music track afterall), and most instrumental music on ..... seems to play correctly.

I've installed Debian Jessie recently. I've also installed LXDM from the testing repos. Then I created a password-less user account with 'guest' as its username by this method:
Code: Select allsudo useradd guest
sudo passwd -d guest
Now even if I set "skip_password=1" in /etc/lxdm/lxdm.conf the login screen still asks for the password. If I enter nothing there, it won't let me login.

I recently upgraded my machine to a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ in the hopes of being able to stream HD movies to my ps3 and tv. I currently dont have my ps3 hooked up. But yesterday I wanted to watch HD movies from my server (samba share) from my laptop hooked up to the tv via CAT5. The issue is that when I started the movie, playback back was skipping. When I watch the movie on the Ubuntu server no skipping. I am wondering if this has to do with my switch being 10/100 and not GB? Im not trying to watch them over wifi as that would be impossible. The connection is CAT5 cabling. Should I try a GB switch instead?

I can play WMAs with MPlayer but when I try to skip forward a few minutes it plays for a split second, and then plays at another random part of the video making it impossible to play a WMA from anywhere but the beginning.
Code:
mplayer -demuxer lavf ccent01.wmv.The above command opens the video but there is no menubar, scroll bar, or any reaction to right click although strangely scrolling my mouse wheel seems to randomly skip through the video. In VLC when trying to play the same file I get the error:
Code:
No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "wmas". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this. No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "MSS2". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this. After converting the .wma file to .mpg, and also .avi using a command similar to:
Code: mencoder ccent01.wmv -ofps 23.976 -ovc lavc -oac copy -o ccent01.mpg. There is no change playing the file with mplayer and in VLC it now only gives one error: Code: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "wmas". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this. I'm preparing for a Cisco exam later in the week and would like to spend tomorrow watching hours of computer based training videos but would rather not have to do it in Windows. Already tried using Media Player Classic in WINE but it crashed. Is there a workaround? Oh and I already have ubuntu-restricted-extras installed.

I installed Ubuntu using Wubi, and I'm liking it so far. However, I still have Windows 7 installed as my primary OS, and I have accumulated a large collection of music. However, I cannot listen to this music in my Ubuntu system, which is a shame. I'm almost certain I am simply missing something, though I would like to double-check and ensure I am wrong before going further. Is it possible to access my music from my Windows partition on my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS partition?

I have a fresh install of Karmic and get the occasional skipping when I play files through amarok. If a play a CD through Rythmbox the sound is ok, so I don't think its got anything to do with pulseaudio. Could it be the xine backend?

I have Lenovo T61 with opensuse 11.4 which until this morning was working just fine. I have used OpenSuse on this notebook for about 2 years with out much trouble. This morning on boot up I could not login because GDM was not listening to the keyboard for some reason. I rebooted on a live disk and the hardware was just fine. I switched to init 3 in /etc/inittab and the keyboard was working fine. If I started X with startx it still worked fine. If I started gdm the keyboard was not working anymore, so much so that I could not do {ctrl}{alt}{F1} to switch to a virtual terminal or {ctrl}{alt}{bksp} to kill X, nothing. The mouse worked so I could reboot.
I installed KDM and switched to it instead of GDM for the display manager with yast and was able to login and everything is fine. I would like to switch back to GDM but it is not that big of a deal

I was logged in as root, made some changes to my users and think I may have inadvertently changed root somehow. Ever since then, my machine runs just fine, I can sudo, Yast, etc without any issues. (Root password is fine) but when I try to log in as root, the system changes the screen display, as if it's going to login, then returns me back to the login prompt without error. If I "ctl+alt+F1", I drop out to the console and can login as root, but cannot startx because the display is already in use.... So, I removed the .X0-lock, but still cannot get the GUI to load. (after running rm /tmp/./X0-lock, I get a fatal error, "can't establish any listening sockets..." "Ctl+Alt+F7" brings me back to the GUI where I am logged in as myself in Gnome) if I login with my user account, everything runs fine and all is well.

Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on an old Dell Dimension 8400 with an ATI RV370 Radeon X300 video card and 512MB of Ram. The video seems to go very fast and skips. I followed the Comprehensive Multimedia & Video Howto but still have the same issue. I have also read many posts but I have trouble understanding some of the responses. Could it be the low amount of RAM?

I have tried stopping the firewall and even disabling IPv6 nothing changed, any clues as to what is going on?

I have noticed that my music, which is all in .ogg format, is skipping every once in a while in Ubuntu, but not in Windows (I use Banshee in Ubuntu; Winamp for when I use Windows). My whole music collection isn't skipping entirely--that is, not every music file has this problem. However, the ones that do, the music file skips like a scratched CD for 1-2 seconds. The same music file doesn't do this at all when played with Winamp in Windows. Are my music files corrupted? What is going on? None of the music files were like this before (with the skipping), but for some reason, the skipping occurs only in Ubuntu, not Windows/Winamp. Not every music file has this happening, but some of them do.
I have been thinking about converting all my music files to .mp3, or re-converting the files as .ogg as another copy,

On a laptop I have Windows 7 installed, and ubuntu 11.04. Now. A while ago the HDD died and I replaced it. with some data loss but nothing much to worry. Now I thought that it would be useful if I somehow could manage to direct the Documents, Music etc. etc. folders located /home/[user] to somewhere on a different partition HDD. I managed to make new folders on the partition and link them with the documents and music folders etc.. the problem now is is that you have to unlock it every time by either opening the partition and insert your password. I know that the password problem can be evaded by simply changing some settings, but. I want to evade the whole process of clicking on the partition. It is for security reasons that that have to sort of activate the partition, but I find it becoming a bit annoying.
So, has anyone a clue of how to activate the driver right at the start? something automatic stuff. Or does someone know how to disable this ?

I am running this command,
Code:
rsync -vrl --progress --stats --perms --delete --exclude '*~' --exclude 'Music' --exclude 'server' --exclude 'Downloads' --exclude 'Ubuntu One' --exclude 'Videos' /home/dave/ /media/server/backup/desktop/dave
It transfers files that remain unchanged. The one that I notice every time is
Code:
.VirtualBox/HardDisks/anOS.vdi
I have several OSes installed in VirtualBox, so this takes a very long time.

Ive managed to screw up an encrypted disk experiment, basically at boot i get ask to enter my password which i lost.
Only a data partition is encrypted, the linux system is unecrypted.
However, the skip option thats presented that should work via S does not work. every key in input adds one * behind the password prompt.
The password prompt changes from white to red though. as if in the white phase you should be able to skip.
Im to lazy at the moment to swap the drive and comment the drive in fstab
I already booted in single, but still the mount occours. is there another way to get the system booting?

I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 last evening and all has been going well. Lucid didn't work out for me, so I used other distros. 10.10 fixed all issues except one thing. This is a need for me; e-courses I take require that I use Elluminate Live, a Java-based conference software. It runs flawlessly on every distro except Ubuntu. I had to use another PC running a different distro in order to get to a class. I really don't want to do that all the time. I thought it may be OpenJDK, but I found that Sun Java was installed and in use (I installed the extras while installing). I tried OpenJDK (worth a shot eh?) and the exact issue persists. All other programs have perfect audio.

Banshee only recently started doing this: When I play an song it works fine but if I click on skip it plays the next song for about 1-2 seconds then Banshee just closes. Also if I just let the song play (or skip to the end of the song) it also closes within 1-2 seconds of playing the next song. If I'm half way through a song I can click on another song to play it and it works fine through.I've tried disabling all my extensions but that didn't make any difference.
If I launch Banshee by typing 'banshee' into Terminal (and then play a song and press the skip button) this is what the Terminal says:
Code:
[Info 23:04:34.467] Running Banshee 2.0.0: [Ubuntu 11.04 (linux-gnu, i686) @ 2011-06-28 05:46:57 UTC][code].....
EDIT: I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 not Lubuntu, how do I change it?

I'm trying to backup a drive with an LVM2 partition. 8 of the 10 partitions in the LVM restore fine, two do not. SDA1 is the boot partition, SDA2 is an LVM2 partition with 10 partitions inside of it. When I restore the image created by Clonezilla the partition names are there but two of the partitions are unreadable and unmountable. I'm certain Clonezilla is skipping these two partitions because its entire image is around 40G and when I TGZ these two partitions I get an 80GB file. Clonezilla doesn't appear to give any errors and as it "winds up" it shows that it's unmounting the LVM partitions and I see my missing two in its list but when Clonezilla makes the image it never mentions the two I (really) want. I'm trying Clonezilla's DD method right now but it appears to be DDing each partition (going through the LVMs right now).

I'm working on a ~1 TB disk that was loaded with all kinds of images and documents that lost it's HFS+ partition table. The person for which I'm doing the favor of running scalpel says it's likely there's 90GB of stuff. Somehow, the disk got relabeled/MBR changed to some FAT variant that works on the whole Terrabyte.
Attempts to recover the partition info failed. My first try with scalpel finds more than 90GB of image file headers alone and that blows through all of my storage. Of the headers found and recovered as images, a simple test shows most of the image files are broken. The cluster size option does not work if I use it by itself. It errors out before it gets going.I want to speed things up and skip the countless broken image files.
