I have installed the one click multimedia but I still can't play a DVD. It opens Totem but the video will not play. Are there more codecs I need to install to make this work?
View 9 RepliesI can't get my media to play. I click on the song I want and it just hangs there. When I go to configure amarok and hit test sound it plays just fine. I've installed the packman repo and followed other instructions on getting media to work but I just get nothing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIt isn't that I don't get sound. It just won't play. If I click a file, then click play it quickly goes through an amount of songs. Too quick to give a good number. For example, if I have 100 songs on my library, I want to play one. Obviously I click play and such to make it play but instead of playing it acts as if it can not read the file (even though all my songs are in the library). Got any help/tips/whatevers?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThere is no sound when I play a movie. The only mediaplayer that plays the audio is kaffeine. Amarok plays MP3 just fine. All the rest does not. Not vlc, (s)mplayer. An avi,mp3 or mkv file it does not matter. I have installed all restricted codecs but I had to doe it 2 times, the first time I did it the 1click method, but the installation what's interrupted.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.

Today for some reason none of my avi files are able to play. When I try a DVD there is also no play back of the video. Sound is working but video is not there. I have tried Kaffeine, VLC, SM Player. All no luck.

I've been a Ubuntu user for the last 7 days and just switched from Vista.I've been loving it so far except for this tiny problem.
Amarok does not play media files at all.The pre-installed Rhythmbox with 10.04 works great.In Amarok,it isn't that I don't get sound. It just won't play. If I click a file, then click play it quickly goes through an amount of songs and then it tries to play all the songs in the playlist unsuccessfully.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and Amarok 2.3.0(KDE 4.4.2) in a 32 bit system.
I am running Ubuntu latest revision, but for the last 2 revs I have had the same problem. I have tried removing and uninstalling all media players, codecs and everything with no luck yet. When I play an AVI it brings up a window saying I need the divx or mpeg-4 codec. Click here to download. When I click it, it tells me it can't find the required drivers. The audio plays but no video. I have installed the codecs from what I can tell. I have seen errors for DivX MPEG-4 Version 5, X-VID MPEG-4, and H.264.

View 2 Replies View RelatedVLC Media player has been giving me a few problems and I'm hoping someone here has a fix for this issue.Yesterday I was playing an avi file and my browser, that was also running, froze up in the background. At the same time my video became choppy and started to freeze. I shut down firefox and vlc but when I opened it back up all of my avi files where greyed out. I've posted a request for help on the vlc forums but no one has responded. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's frustrating because my vlc player will still play dvd's but it won't play any avi files. Oh and I tried the drag and drop option per a suggestion but all I get is sound with no video. Lastly, I should mention that I'm a multi tasker and was also trouble shooting a problem I was having with amarok, which I've since uninstalled. Could amarok have some how screwed up my files? View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having problems listening to windows media streams from a particular website ( http://radiotime.com ) whenever I try to listen to a stream from firefox, the page loads then connects but i have no sound (i am actually trying to listen to those two chinese radios [URL].. I have the mplayerplug-in/gecko-mediaplayer installed, but it doesn't work, I tought that maybe there was a problem with that plugin so I deactivated it and installed the vlc plugin, after restarting firefox and trying to listen to those streams again, the vlc plugin tried to read it but it still would not work. I even tried to install the Silverlight Plug-In without any result, does anybody know what I could do to make windows media audio streams work ? it is wierd because i seem to be able to watch windows media video streams from other websites, but i cannot listen to any stream from this one, it used to work for mp3 streams only, but after desinstalling/resinstalling the mplayer plug in, it doesn't work anymore on this website. I can listen to those streams without any problem under windows 7, so the problem isn't coming from the website.

i hav a system which is never connected to internet. I had installed opensuse 11.1 from dvd.But the media files r not working. I had installed gstreamer all sets. And tried to install codecs using a .ypm file i downloaded from the opensuse server but not working without internet. I can download any files in other system and copy it to my system.
View 3 Replies View RelatedNormally I find everything I need either in the documentation or forum, but it's been months, and this time I'm stumped. I'm posting the results of my latest tests, so I'm really sorry about the length of this post.
I can't play DVDs unless they've been burned by myself or a friend. I had no problems until around the beginning of April. I was running 11.2 on both my laptop and desktop. I think an update changed something. This was before 11.2 was officially retired a week or so later. I wanted to upgrade to 11.4 anyway, so I began with my laptop. During installation I wiped everything from my hard disk by creating new partitions and formatting them. After installation I installed the multimedia packages using one-click (opensuse-guide.org, not opensuse-community.org, although I did read what they said). I know one-click is not ideal, but I was curious. The result was that I still couldn't play DVDs.
I did a fresh installation, just to be on the safe side. This time I installed the packages according to Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide by caf4926. But I still couldn't play DVDs, so I went through the thread Check your multimedia problem in ten steps. Then I ran mmcheck (v2.35). I tried a few times, experimented, and in the end did another fresh install.
In the meantime, on my desktop, which still has 11.2 on it, I found the file which had been changed and changed it back, so I could play DVDs on it again. It was in /etc/udev/rules.d/, 70-persistent-cd.rules. This does not appear to be the problem in 11.4 on my laptop.
I have again installed the packages according to the multimedia installation guide, and done the ten-step check and run mmcheck and these are the results as they stand:
I couldn't find a package called mplayerplug-in. I used zypper to look for it.
I tried installing the totem packages in a previous installation, but they didn't make a difference, so I left them out this time.
I deinstalled my jdk, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference, except that I get an error notification everytime I want to use LibreOffice. And I need it, so I'm putting it back soon.

And nothing else happens... I get no feedback from smplayer whatsoever. It opens, trys to read the DVD, and sits there. Even on the console.
Can anyone recommend an easily usable media transfer application? That is, I want to copy audio files from my CDs, compress them if possible, perhaps organize & store them on disk, and transfer the ones I want to listen to to a media player. (Currently a Zen Vision:M).
The basic problem (there seem to be lots of ramifications) I've had with Creative's software and the Windows media player is that there doesn't seem to be any obvious way to sensibly organize the audio: it's all based on "albums", "artists", and "songs", where I listen to audio performances. So what I'd like to do is to copy say the two disks of Macbeth (which I can do, but it goes into about a dozen Track xxx files in a directory for each disk), somehow organize that into a unit that I can simply copy to the player and play from beginning to end. This seems to me to be a very basic sort of function, but nothing I've found will do it, at least in a way that I can discover.
I finally got Amarok and other media players working with the local mp3 files. However, I keep my files on a server. This setup works fine for Windows so it hasn't been a problem until now. The server is Ubuntu and I share the files using SAMBA. I know (very little) about NFS but I need SAMBA for the Windows clients so there is no NFS setup.I can see the SAMBA shares in Konqueror but I cannot open SAMBA shares with Amarok, XMMS, or anything else. I think I need to mount the SAMBA shares on OpenSUSE (11.2) to access them with Amarok, etc. I would then include these shares in the fstab file on my OpenSUSE box to include them at boot. Is this correct?

I'm running openSUSE 11.2 on KDE, although the problem persists on other desktops. I followed the instructions on SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE, as well. If anyone needs any other information, please let me know. It worked before, I don't know what caused it to stop working.
As well, I've tried to install the restricted formats, but even when my audio did work, it wouldn't play them. I followed the instructions specific to my version on the restricted formats guide.
