I'm running Banshee 1.6.0 under OpenSUSE 11.2. I listen to a lot of podcasts, and whenever Banshee ends one show and switches to another, it resets the sound volume from the value it was set at during the previous podcast.
I couldn't locate anything in the Sound preferences, and Banshee doesn't seem to have anything specific about making the playback sound sync with the system volume.
Every time I boot into my laptop, there is no sound. Going to alsamixer in a terminal shows that the "Speaker" volume is constantly getting reset to 0, and bringing it back up fixes the problem. How can I get Alsa to remember to keep the speaker volume above 0?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 5.1-speaker set, confed succesfully with alsa. alsamixer -c 0 -command shows volume of all the speakers I want to set up. My problem is, when I have alsamixer open and change main volume from gnome-panel (it's called pavucontrol for me, pulseaudio?) it "resets" all speakers to max (100%). Only master volume changes like planned. For example, if I have front speakers set to 50%, center to 75%, surround to 100%, subwoofer to 40%, when changing volume from gnome's panel it only changes master volume, and puts every other speaker to max. How to prevent this? Do you have any clue? I had not any problems with this in openSUSE 11.1. Alt+F2 not working with Emerald decorator Screens go black after 10 minutes or so in openSUSE 11.2

How can I get ALSA Mixer to remember my volume settings from last boot or if there's no other option, a way I can make it adjust the levels to a predetermined level automatically on startup. It happened only 3 times, but now I'm afraid to change the volume and change it directly with the speaker's controls.One more question. When banshee crashes, all the system gets freezed. Before anyone comes in here and says to use the Volume Up/Volume Down keybinds in gnome-keybinding-properties, that does not work. That controls the master volume. I'm looking for a global hotkeys that control JUST the application volume.I've been playing around now, and I think I might have found a way. Since 9.10, Pulseaudio is integrated and the default sound manager. It also allows controlling the application volume level. While changing the volume would be through Pulseaudio and not in the specific application, this would work.
My question is if there's a way to set a keybind to control a specific application's volume within Pulseaudio? Or even a way to set a keybind to the event that happens when a specific application's volume is turned up or down within Pulseaudio.
I have a Geforce GTX 460 GPU and I recently switched from Ubuntu to Suse 11 and I have installed the latest Nvidia drivers (the same as I had on Ubuntu) In Ubuntu I had configured the xserver to display my desktop on my LCD monitor and my LED TV as clones and everything worked fine When I change the settings in Suse everything works fine until I restart the Xserver. All my settings disappear and everything is back to the standard settings again. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether I have root privileges or not, and I have tried saving to etc/X11/xorg.conf., etc/X11/xorg.conf.install, etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup but each time I reboot everything is back to the default settings again. In Ubuntu I just saved the new settings to etc/X11/xorg.conf. and restarted the Xserver and all was fine.

The volume keyboard shortcuts on my Asus Eee 1008p resets on reboot.(going back to no shortcut at all). It works for the session, if i set it, but after reboot i have to set it again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems that some of the functions I used almost daily in Amarok 1 are not to be found (at least by me) in Amarok 2. After a thread without a solution on how to play Random tracks, here is a new one.
In Amarok 1 I used to place a track (e.g. sitting in a download directory) in the playlist (by clicking on it). A right click on it in the play list revealed a few options. Two of them:
. copy track to collection.
. move track to collection
Both are gone in Amarok 2 and I could not find a replacement.
Btw when I right click on an item in the collection list (at left) there is still the Reorganize file(s) that is very much the 'collection internal' equivalent.
As I suppose that it is possible to add to the local collection, who knows how to do it?
Whenever I play music tracks in totem Movie Player, the volume drops on each subsequent track - it's VERY annoying. Does anybody know of a permanent fix for this? I've gone through the steps on the pulseaudio thread, and they only fix the problem temporarily. I've even gone so far as uninstalling everything attached to pulseaudio (which was real fun btw since xorg and the video drivers apparently are dependent). After fixing that mess, the audio is STILL screwy. Never had this problem under F10 - do I need to go back?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently on vacation, and noted that the kdenlive version on my laptop (running 64-bit openSUSE-11.3 with KDE-4.4.4) will crash when loading a kdenlive file that has an audio track previously saved.
ie one can no longer reload a project, after saving it, if one has an audio track in the project.
I note my desktop (just before I went on vacation) did not have this behaviour. Has anyone else encountered this?
When I get back from vacation, I'll compare the packages between the two (ie between laptop and desktop). I note these packages on my laptop, which may or may not be relevant.

I'm using Opensuse 11.4 with Gnome 3 (magic!) and have installed Banshee which is always brilliant. However, though I'm pretty sure I've installed all the requisite codecs, I cannot get it to rip my CD's to MP3. The option is not in the drop down menu, only flac, ogg, wav, and wavpack are available. Usually there's the option to rip to MP3 to accompany those options. The odd thing is it's playing other MP3's I've already got just fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been having these weird problem with sound after the last few updates. The background music of a ..... video or audio CD playback would be fine, but any vocal/commentary track that contains human voice would be all jumbed up and sounds like you are listening to it from underwater. The volume for the human voice part of the audio would also be a lot lower than the music track.
Not sure what the problem is, and the only way of solving it was through system restore (which actually takes more time than a reinstall). The test sound in YAST sounds fine (well, it's a music track afterall), and most instrumental music on ..... seems to play correctly.
I want to install the latest version on my system, so I go to the Banshee download site, and do the install for SuSE 11.0. That brings up the Yast2 installer, which tries to do the install, but barfs with message something like "banshee-1-backend-engine-gtkstreamer-1-1.5.1-1.1.i586 required, uninstallable providers bansheexxxx [OpenSUSE_11.0],Conflict resolution: following actions will be done" with a long list of actions.So I click on "OK-Try Again", but it doesn't DO anything, just endlessly repeats the same message.Is there some way to bypass this, and get it to actually install?

I upgraded the system to 11.3 and then just dbl-clicked on a .wav and a .mp3 file. Big surprise - everything worked wonderfully, all with no further effort from me!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenSuse 11.4, and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed consistent high CPU utilization with banshee? By high CPU use I mean, when the application is running (whether it's idle, playing music, or scanning) CPU use on my machine is almost consistently at 100% (one core pegged).
Scanning my music library took hours ... like 3-4 hours to scan 9500 songs, and banshee was the only application running on my machine.
Rhythymbox doesn't suffer the same fate, scanning the same library took 5 minutes and CPU busy is less than 2% when it's running or playing music.
I'm running banshee 1.9.3, and I'd rather use it vs Rhythmbox.
I just installed OpenSuse 11.2 KDE on my Macbook and try as I might, I cannot get used to Amarok. I like Banshee and it's simple interface, plus the way it handles radio stations and the like.
I did install it using YaST and I am able to run it, but I am unable to add internet radio stations and also I am unable to play them (and other MP3 files) if I manually connect to the stream. As far as adding radio stations, I am unable to because the Genre box stays grayed out and the Save button stays grayed out because the Genre box has not been filled in (but I can't because it's grayed out). As far as playing MP3s, Banshee says I need a codec and when i click 'Search' for a suitable codec, it takes me to an OpenSuse download page with the decoder there but it's for OpenSuse 10.3, not 11.2.
These are probably simple problems with simple solutions but I can't seem to figure them out. Also, K3B says the MP3 Decoder is missing as well. I'm sure it is related to the Banshee problem too.
i have a fresh installation of opensuse 11.2 32-bit. my soundcard is terratec ewx 24-96. the card is detected in yast, and i can play test sound from the yast/sound panel. all volume sliders are set to maximum values (i have also double checked it in alsamixer).
i *can* hear the sound when doing this test from the gnome terminal:
speaker-test -dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
however to make this test work:
speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav
i had to remove the asound-pulse.conf file. after removing this file the second test (speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav) works. removing this file also solved the problem of missing sound in videos videos played in firefox. the original contents of the asound-pulse.conf file was:

the problem is i can't play any audio files (.wav or .mp3) in banshee.
i am sure the .wav file i use while testing is ok as i can play it with aplay.
when i try playing the .wav file, banshee does not complain about any missing codecs. the slider moves as the file is being played. i have also started banshee with the --debug option, but there were no errors in the output.
so my guess is that banshee is playing the files, it's just that it sends the data to the wrong device/channell or whatever it is.
all of the gstreamer packages i have installed are from the packman repository.
when i run gstreamer-properties, the only setting on the audio tab that gives me sound is: alsa (for the plugin) and default (for the device).
Hi! This is my first post here, I'm back to openSUSE since the last version I used 10.1 and I'm really enjoying using 11.2 so far .
Banshee (or totem) can't play mmsh streams. I have packman repositorie activated and have installed all gstreammer plugins plus ffmeg and ffmpeg related gstreamer plugins and libmms0.
I can play mp3, xvid and other formats, but these streams are the only thing that does not work.
the gui exhibits the usual signs "we code but haven't even used it before.." can't sort a list of tracks by track so can't play anything in the order it was supposed to be play in ie track 1 to 12.

When I try to listen to the music, it simply puts a red cross against each track. Since combining video and music is VERY common, this means I have a whole host of CDs that will not play. MS media player and VLC have no problems with these, so how can I make Banshee play them?

But, unfortunately when I tried to play movies on both default applications (Banshee and Totem) in Open Suse Gnome 11.3, I've got the message to search for XVID MPEG-4 decoder. And till now, I still unable to search for it, because there's still no sound or a little sound on both players.
