I'm using the default media player 'Banshee', and when I select multiple tracks to edit bulk information, ie Album Name or Genre, it's only changing the track I right click on, regardless of multiple being selected.Is this the default action for Banshee, and if so, is there a way to change multiple track information at once.

I'm running Banshee 1.6.0 under OpenSUSE 11.2. I listen to a lot of podcasts, and whenever Banshee ends one show and switches to another, it resets the sound volume from the value it was set at during the previous podcast.
I couldn't locate anything in the Sound preferences, and Banshee doesn't seem to have anything specific about making the playback sound sync with the system volume.
If I insert music CDs into my disc drive, Banshee can't fetch the track information and just displays everything as Track 1, Track 2,etc...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have something crashing my system. It might be the random screensaver setting as it was an issue in 11.0 although I have not see it be an issue in 11.2. Previously I though my computer was shutting itself down and because of that I started this thread: opensuse 11.2 shutting down - openSUSE Forums
but now I know the issue is crashing it seems like I should start a separate thread as it's a completely different question. I guess I need to learn how to determine what caused a crash after I reboot a crashed system. So, other than blindly combing logs of which there are dozens, is there a smart methodical way to determine what is crashing a system after a restart? -- when you are not around to see what the cause is as it happens.
It seems that some of the functions I used almost daily in Amarok 1 are not to be found (at least by me) in Amarok 2. After a thread without a solution on how to play Random tracks, here is a new one.
In Amarok 1 I used to place a track (e.g. sitting in a download directory) in the playlist (by clicking on it). A right click on it in the play list revealed a few options. Two of them:
. copy track to collection.
. move track to collection
Both are gone in Amarok 2 and I could not find a replacement.
Btw when I right click on an item in the collection list (at left) there is still the Reorganize file(s) that is very much the 'collection internal' equivalent.
As I suppose that it is possible to add to the local collection, who knows how to do it?
Mailman seems to work (the Web interface actually, I could add a subscriber as admin), but when someone tries to subsribe alone, I get this error :

I'm currently on vacation, and noted that the kdenlive version on my laptop (running 64-bit openSUSE-11.3 with KDE-4.4.4) will crash when loading a kdenlive file that has an audio track previously saved.
ie one can no longer reload a project, after saving it, if one has an audio track in the project.
I note my desktop (just before I went on vacation) did not have this behaviour. Has anyone else encountered this?
When I get back from vacation, I'll compare the packages between the two (ie between laptop and desktop). I note these packages on my laptop, which may or may not be relevant.

I tried banshee under ubuntu netbook edition and was totally impressed with the program, so much so that I would love it on my SUSE laptop. Could somebody point a noob in the right direction?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having these weird problem with sound after the last few updates. The background music of a ..... video or audio CD playback would be fine, but any vocal/commentary track that contains human voice would be all jumbed up and sounds like you are listening to it from underwater. The volume for the human voice part of the audio would also be a lot lower than the music track.
Not sure what the problem is, and the only way of solving it was through system restore (which actually takes more time than a reinstall). The test sound in YAST sounds fine (well, it's a music track afterall), and most instrumental music on ..... seems to play correctly.
I'm trying to write a program which would get information from a webpage and display the information on my desktop sort of like a widget. I kind of remember there being something like this already made, but for the life of me I can't remember what it's calledDoes anyone know?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Banshee 1.6 (beta 2) 1.5.1. I'm actually interested in is getting the Amazon mp3 extension to work, and I don't see this extension in my current version of Banshee. I tried to upgrade & ended up wiping my whole hard drive & had to re-install 11.2 but I'm sure that was my inexperience more than anything else.
I'm not sure of the proper procedure to upgrade any particular package on 11.2 actually. I just leave them alone & it works great. I could add the Banshee repo (which I have not done) but even if I uninstall 1.6 which I have now, and then re-install the newer app from the repo, it will not work. It says it installs properly (I know this from yesterday) but the program doesn't show up in the menu.
I recently installed banshee from the gnome 3 site with the one click installer and everything went fine but clicking on an mp3 does nothing it wont play.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Opensuse 11.4 with Gnome 3 (magic!) and have installed Banshee which is always brilliant. However, though I'm pretty sure I've installed all the requisite codecs, I cannot get it to rip my CD's to MP3. The option is not in the drop down menu, only flac, ogg, wav, and wavpack are available. Usually there's the option to rip to MP3 to accompany those options. The odd thing is it's playing other MP3's I've already got just fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iPod Classic 6th Gen and am using Banshee for my music needs, however Banshee is not picking up my iPod. When I connect the iPod via my USB Cable, it is visible in the File Browser, and mounted to the Desktop. Banshee just isn't picking it up!

But I wanted the newest version (1.8.0) for its new features and so I've tried both adding their (openSUSE 11.3) repository and doing it through yast and also installing it (for openSUSE 11.3) straight from their website with the "1-click install". Both of these methods did the exact same thing, just the latter added the repository for me (much simpler/lazier). Now, after installing banshee 1.8.0, it does not show up in the application launcher menu. So, I'm not sure how to open it and/or add it to the kickoff menu.

That brings up the Yast2 installer, which tries to do the install, but barfs with message something like "banshee-1-backend-engine-gtkstreamer-1-1.5.1-1.1.i586 required, uninstallable providers bansheexxxx [OpenSUSE_11.0],Conflict resolution: following actions will be done" with a long list of actions.So I click on "OK-Try Again", but it doesn't DO anything, just endlessly repeats the same message.Is there some way to bypass this, and get it to actually install?

I upgraded the system to 11.3 and then just dbl-clicked on a .wav and a .mp3 file. Big surprise - everything worked wonderfully, all with no further effort from me!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenSuse 11.4, and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed consistent high CPU utilization with banshee? By high CPU use I mean, when the application is running (whether it's idle, playing music, or scanning) CPU use on my machine is almost consistently at 100% (one core pegged).
Scanning my music library took hours ... like 3-4 hours to scan 9500 songs, and banshee was the only application running on my machine.
Rhythymbox doesn't suffer the same fate, scanning the same library took 5 minutes and CPU busy is less than 2% when it's running or playing music.
I'm running banshee 1.9.3, and I'd rather use it vs Rhythmbox.
I've just installed openSUSE 11.2 (with Gnome). Everything works fine except the Ipod support in Banshee (Ver. 1.6 Beta 2).
When I connect my Ipod Video 30GB to my Computer it is recognised in openSUSE and also a new Nautilus windows with the Ipod content is opened. But in Banshee there is no Ipod button or anything else which allows me to sync my music with Ipod.
I've already tried to delete the /home/{user}/.config/banshee-1 folder and installed the banshee-1-dmp-ipod package. The Ipod plugin (Ver. 1.0) is also installed in Banshee.
What do I need to do, to make music play in banshee?

I can open Banshee, but now I get a red X beside all of my songs when I try to play them. I have checked to make sure that no codecs were removed, and they all look appear to be installed. Missing my music.
After I upgrade the Banshee to 1.7.5-91 version, I can't start it. When try to start it, the window of it appears and close immediately.

I just installed OpenSuse 11.2 KDE on my Macbook and try as I might, I cannot get used to Amarok. I like Banshee and it's simple interface, plus the way it handles radio stations and the like.
I did install it using YaST and I am able to run it, but I am unable to add internet radio stations and also I am unable to play them (and other MP3 files) if I manually connect to the stream. As far as adding radio stations, I am unable to because the Genre box stays grayed out and the Save button stays grayed out because the Genre box has not been filled in (but I can't because it's grayed out). As far as playing MP3s, Banshee says I need a codec and when i click 'Search' for a suitable codec, it takes me to an OpenSuse download page with the decoder there but it's for OpenSuse 10.3, not 11.2.
These are probably simple problems with simple solutions but I can't seem to figure them out. Also, K3B says the MP3 Decoder is missing as well. I'm sure it is related to the Banshee problem too.
i have a fresh installation of opensuse 11.2 32-bit. my soundcard is terratec ewx 24-96. the card is detected in yast, and i can play test sound from the yast/sound panel. all volume sliders are set to maximum values (i have also double checked it in alsamixer).
i *can* hear the sound when doing this test from the gnome terminal:
speaker-test -dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
however to make this test work:
speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav
i had to remove the asound-pulse.conf file. after removing this file the second test (speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav) works. removing this file also solved the problem of missing sound in videos videos played in firefox. the original contents of the asound-pulse.conf file was:

the problem is i can't play any audio files (.wav or .mp3) in banshee.
i am sure the .wav file i use while testing is ok as i can play it with aplay.
when i try playing the .wav file, banshee does not complain about any missing codecs. the slider moves as the file is being played. i have also started banshee with the --debug option, but there were no errors in the output.
so my guess is that banshee is playing the files, it's just that it sends the data to the wrong device/channell or whatever it is.
all of the gstreamer packages i have installed are from the packman repository.
when i run gstreamer-properties, the only setting on the audio tab that gives me sound is: alsa (for the plugin) and default (for the device).
Hi! This is my first post here, I'm back to openSUSE since the last version I used 10.1 and I'm really enjoying using 11.2 so far .
Banshee (or totem) can't play mmsh streams. I have packman repositorie activated and have installed all gstreammer plugins plus ffmeg and ffmpeg related gstreamer plugins and libmms0.
I can play mp3, xvid and other formats, but these streams are the only thing that does not work.
