View 7 Replieswhat software there is to be able to copy videos to my iPod, and have it show up on the iPod?
View 7 RepliesA friend of mine has a 1st generation iPod touch, and wants to switch completely to linux, but is concerned how the songs currently on his iPod will be handled when he switches. He has many songs that are only on the iPod; he has purchased them from the iTunes store directly on the device, not through iTunes on his computer.
When he syncs his iPod with Banshee, will Banshee merely copy the songs onto his linux partition? Is there any chance that Banshee will remove the songs from his iPod? He obviously dosen't want to lose any of his music. A slightly lesser concern as well... will Banshee be able to play these protected files?
I know this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find any recent topics.
What's a good program in Linux/Ubuntu to convert any video file to .mp4 for an iPod/iPhone?
I've been working on a small program to perform a very specific and useful task of quickly and efficiently converting videos to go on any Apple Ipod or Iphone. This includes both classic and 5th generation Ipods as well. Ibulk is a command-line only program but incredibly easy to use and runs off FFmpeg with AAC functionality. The program comes with a Read Me file which will explain its options and instructions in concise detail. Ibulk converts several videos in its input folder to the desired H.264 or XviD video encoding to its output folder. All videos are created in mp4 format with 160Kbps 48000Hz audio sound quality (highest setting an Ipod can handle) and both video encoders at the highest bitrate an Ipod can handle with the exception of some videos which will be auto-adjusted to meet the Ipod's requirements. Ibulk is written in the native unix/linux language and so it should work on any linux distro.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect my 2nd Gen Ipod to Xubuntu and import my music collection onto the Ipod. I am having real problems with this. Rhythm Box does not recognise the Ipod with the plug-in, I have tried Amarok, but each time I tried to open it, it just crashed, tried sending a bug report but that did not want to work. I have also tried Exaile with the Ipod plug-in but when you go to the device manager you can click on the Ipod but nothing happens. I have tried looking at the Exaile forums but this seems to be a problem for others as well. The Ipod mounts ok, now a bit stuck.

Edit : Itouch = first generation 8gb Edit 2: I would like to create a sticky thread that helps new users answer questions about ipods. Will a moderator please let me know what i should include in their opinion? ex. using wine to run itunes, gtkpod and how to set it up, using mm players like banshee and songbird... what version of ubuntu works best with the ipods.
I've been trying to get my iPod touch (8GB, jailbroken) to connect with gtkpod iPod manager. But whenever I try to load the iPod I get this message.

View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery once in a while when I plug my ipod (160gb 5 generation) in, it gets mounted as root.
If I eject and restart the ipod, the next time I plug it in, it is mounted as my normal user.
I connect my iPod to the computer, open Amarok, and select the "Copy To -- Local Collection" option. I have over 2,000 songs on my iPod, but only 638 are imported. There is no rhyme or reason to which songs are imported and which are not.
Individually selecting the unimported songs and attempting to copy them is unsuccessful. I have followed the multimedia installation guide to the letter with success.
I've installed ifuse and libimobiledevice and I can now access my iPod touch at /media/iPod. gtkpod is able to get R/W access to the iPod, but it wrecks my podcast play statuses. Rhythmbox, Banshee and Amarok don't show any sign of recognizing my iPod.
Which apps are able to manage my iPod? Do they require additional libraries or configuration? I'm using firmware 4.2.1.
ok i have some family videos i want on my ipod touch. i got them converted to mp4 format, but im having trouble trying to import them to my ipod. i have opensuse 11.4 if that helps also my ipod is jailbroken
View 5 Replies View RelatedOpenSUSE 11.1, 64 bit, 2 cores, intel graphics, 4 GB of RAM:_no_ problems
OpenSUSE 11.4, 64 bit, 4 cores, nvidia graphics, 16 GB of RAM:
Problem is very similar to: Problems playing mkv HD films in opensuse but not windows but with enough differences that I start a new thread:
* playback in VLC does not work -- there is only sound
* playback in SMplayer works, however -- when I scroll forward, the video freezes and sound continues, to unfreeze video I have scroll a tiny bit backward
I tried changing the video ouput driver (in SMplayer) from xv to xv/noveu-nvidia, it didn't help. Please note, that I use the same settings (initially) as before in OS11.1.
As most do now my local library has a decent catalog of audiobooks, which I would like to be able to listen to on my iPod. These books can be downloaded only by using Overdrive Media Console (which is available only for Windows and Mac, and also requires Windows Media Player to work!) and iTunes if you want to transfer to an iPod.
I've searched around for Linux friendly solutions. They fall into two categories, try Wine/virtual machine/dual boot to run the required software, or give up. But pretty much everything I have found is about four years old now. Has anything changed in the last few years, or is this still pretty much the way things are? At the moment I use my girlfriend's Vista computer to download books, but I would like to be as Windows free as possible, and able to do it on my own computer.
Can anyone offer advice for being able to download audiobooks and put them on an iPod, with a minimum of non-Linux software? Relatedly, I would also be quite happy to replace the iPod firmware with Rockbox, but from what I can tell that would make library audiobooks even less accessible (so asking if this is an option is like asking for $10 after being refused $1).
I have read couple articles here about ipod shuffle sync in ubuntu. Can't I just plug it into USB, mount the ipod shuffle as drive and copy my mp3 files over? What do I miss at the moment? (I haven't bought the ipod shuffe yet, that is why I can't test it right away. What is the deal with it?)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to transfer the thumnails that nautilus shows for my mp4 collection on to my ipod. I know I can generate my own and I could probably even mange a script. I know that they reside in ~/.thumbnails but the file names are nonsense and include all videos, photos I have viewed recently and other stuff.
Is there a simple way to determine which thumnail in ~/.thumnails is which?
Anyone know how I can convert mp4 files meant for the iphone/itouch to a a video files that will work on a regular ipod that supports video with Linux.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI Updated from Fedora 9 to Fedora 13 several months ago and noticed that AAC audio encoder was no more available in Avidemux (I use version 2.5.3.3 for fedora 13 from rpmfusion repo)Unfortunately AAC is mandatory on the IPod (and probably other Apple devices) to have the sound working.I had faad2-libs (decoder) and faac (encoder) packages installed, but avidemux was not using them. After some search on the web, I found that faac support was removed because of legal issues. Some people recommend to rebuild Avidemux from source but this was a little bit complicated, and I found an easier solution.
In fact the only thing needed to add AAC support to Avidemux is to add the required libADM_ae_faac.so library in /usr/lib/ADM_plugins/audioEncoders, as it is no more supplied in the package avidemux-plugins. Searching for libADM_ae_faac.so on the Web, I found some packages containing this file, such as the ones from other distros, and the package for the same Avidemux version than the one I use but for Fedora 11 : avidemux-plugins-2.5.3-3.fc11.i586.rpm.
I'm trying to diagnose a weird problem ... maybe someone has an idea where to start. I'm having a problem with flash videos. The video part displays as if the fast-forward button is being held down; audio sounds correct.
I'm thinking "synchronization error" (duh!) but I'm not sure how to start to diagnose the issue. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 x64, and the problem shows up in both chrome and opera.
I would like to edit some video dvds., i.e. I would like to perform two different tasks:
1.take out a sequence from the middle of a video dvd and burn it to a new dvd
2. take out a sequence of each of two or more video dvds and burn a new dvd with each of the sequences building one of the chapters of the new dvd.
i installed vlc with many codec from packman

after installing opensuse 11.3 i am finding that i cannot recieve any audio with video with any application.
i can hear certain types of audio, it seems any audio that is not attached to video. i can hear the welcome chime through my speakers after i log in to opensuse and i can also listen to .mp3 files played with amarok. i can watch videos with multiple players, videos videos etc., but there is no audio happening with the video.
i am thinking now this may actually be a hardware problem, since it seems to persist with different software, and only with audio attached to video. i'm thinking maybe there is a problem with my graphics card and its driver (or a lackthereof), although i'm unsure of why i can still watch video. i don't receive any error messages or anything, nor have i attempted to manually install any drivers for my existing hardware. i tried cranking every volume control i could find, including the system volume, but still no volume with video (its weird, its like i can hear it a tiny bit when i crank it, perhaps this is just the internal system beep speaker trying to fill in for the gfx card?).
the card i'm currently using is an nvidia card and although its not exactly old, i have read about some problems with nvidia being reluctant to produce drivers for linux in the past. after some brief googling of nvidia and linux, i was surprised to see that nvidia has an entire portion of their site devoted to unix/linux and open source drivers (perhaps they're doing better now).
is there any way that i can troubleshoot this problem, or do you think the solution is simply purchasing another graphics card from a vendor that has a good reputation for linux support?
I cannot get video, let alone audio, from my opensuse 11.3 box to my HDTV via the AV receiver.I have a computer and a DVR as HDMI input to a Yamaha 765 receiver. The receiver than uses hdmi to output to my samsung hdtv. I am using a ZOTAC GeForce GT 220 with an HDMI port as a video card. As an aside, I could probably upgrade my video card. Suggestions are welcome though I am concerned about heat as it needs to share space with a 4 port hardware RAID controller.
