View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried to install the H.264 decoder and MPEG=4 AAC, by going to Install/Remove software in openSUSE 11.3 and found h264enc - H.264/MPEG-4 Encoder Frontend,I installed it but nothing seemed to happen when it comes to viewing Quicktime movies. I also noticed that when I right-click on the Quicktime screen, it gives me the option to play the video using Banshee. I then launch it and I doeble click on the video that is listed, the banshee logo flashes and nothing happens. Can someone tell me a way to resolve this, is there a way to resolve it.

The only major thing referring to multimedia in the past few days I remember is installing 'h264enc' from Packman, however, meanwhile I uninstalled this package, yet the problem persists.
Code:
kalle@hoppers:~> grep h264enc /var/log/zypp/history

2011-01-20 22:06:20|remove |h264enc|9.2.4-0.pm.1.1|noarch|root@hoppers
The only way of solving this was moving MPlayers config, but that did not help either.
Xine also is not able to play this video:

I am impressed with 11.4 and am happy that for the first time ever I don't need to install a kernel patch to support my on-board nVidia graphics. However, the on-board sound no longer works now. I don't know how to set it up in phonon. My device number 0 in phonon is MCP72XE/MCP72P/MCP78U/MCP78S high definition audio, and I assume this is my nVidia on-board sound card. The driver information states snd-hda-intel.
How can I check what is wrong with it? It did work fine on 11.2 right up to the 11.4 installation. I do get system sounds (like the start-up and shut-down sounds), but nothing from any application, e.g., firefox playing a video. Based on the advice from another thread I tried: speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav This does not produce any sound, but gives the following information: speaker-test 1.0.24.2
Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels

I set up up Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid on my desktop. Why can I not install multimedia support for common formats following the guide here?
I've added the medibuntu repo. I'm up to the part where it says "UBUNTU FAMILY 8.10 AND HIGHER USERS ONLY" and i'm following directions for "32-Bit Ubuntu Users". This is what I get when I paste the command in terminal:
[Code]...
It says "0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove", why am I being told this? If this guide is not for Lucid than what guide is?
I was wondering - is there any multi touch gesture support in openSuse 11.4? I have enabled multi touch scrolling under the 'Mouse' module in Yast, and it works fine. However, i was wondering if a multi touch gesture set is available - such as pinch zoom, or even custom gestures mapped to keyboard combos - e.g. using a spiral to launch terminal?

View 7 Replies View Relatedacross this problem when the changes I was making (such as adding lyrics, cover art, etc) weren't being saved to either my computer or my iPod. I figured out that the problem was the there was no PC file location. When I tried to add my Music folder (all files are .ogg), it gave me an error saying that all the files were incompatible. Any information on how to fix this would be amazing.Note: I can still sync through Banshee, so it's not a immediate problem. However, I can't add lyrics since Banshee doesn't support that, so I would like to get this fixed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to share this with you. I've been trying to get some codecs installed so I can listen to some mp3s on F14.
I've searched the forums and I tried running:

Using root, of course, I ran:
I'm trying to get configured: (domain.com to be used for the purpose of explaining setup)
Root/naked domain (domain.com/www.domain.com) to be setup and configured with Apache/PHP/MySQL. Then radio.domain.com being controlled by IceCast with multiple streams (some live, some MP3 based).
The primary domain is already setup and configured under Apache, and IceCast is already installed, but here is where the problems start showing up.
It's my understanding that Ices2 cannot serve MP3's but only OGG files through IceCast. So just for the sake of testing and wanting to get a sample stream working, I placed a public domain OGG file into /etc/icecast2/music/ and called it "book.ogg."
Then the following are my configuration files: /etc/icecast2/icecast.xml

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to view the footage I have in 1080i AVCHD on my new system but can only view it in VLC, and then only when hardware acceleration is turned off, and there's still a bit of shearing with a hexcore and a Radeon 5850.
Is there a trick to get it to play and/or preview in Mplayer/OpenShot/PiTiVi ? I've tried them all, and I can hear sound but no video. Maybe there's a system-wide way to shut off video decode acceleration.
I guess what I'm asking is, can anyone play/preview/edit in these applications with AVCHD or is it something with my new system? Everything else seems to work great. Maybe I need to try turning off compiz compositing?
Unfortunately, I bought the damn thing to do exactly this kind of video editing, and don't want to have to drop back into Win 7 to use Vegas.
Just got off the phone with Netflix support. Apparently they really want everyone to CALL to request Linux support. You don't have to be a current subscriber (though in fairness you should probably at least be open to subscribing). Archaic if you ask me, but I guess that's how they gauge interest. So, if you're interested, give Netflix a ring and say that you want Netflix on Linux. It might help to mention that Amazon's recently released "Prime" video service DOES support Linux already. They have some competition now!

I have enabled DVD menus by checking the box in Preference > Drives in Umplayer(also tried Smplayer) but there is still no menu when I stick a DVD in the dvd drive, on the other hand the menus show up if I use VLC to play the DVD so it is not the dvd's problem.
I have already installed libdvdnav4.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running a Debian Wheezy system. There are a lot of characters I want to use from the U+1F*** set of characters. But when I use them or look them up in the character map, all I see is the square with the code inside. Is there some font package I can install from the repository that has better support for these characters?
E.g., when I am instant messaging my girlfriend, I like to use the HEAVY BLACK HEART character (❤, U+2764). But there are a whole bunch of other "romantic" characters that are listed but not actually displaying for me, like the KISS MARK (U+1F48B), which I would like to use. These characters apparently show up on her system, which is an android phone.
Is there any way get a VoIP-client with ZRTP-support for SIP, without having to add extra third party repos, ect.? Is there anything in the the Debian repo's that actually support this protocol at all?
None of the two clients I've tried so far (Linphone and SFLphone) work out of the box on Debian. Linphone doesn't work with ZRTP on Debian (bug #743474), it work an all other systems, but not for Debian. SFLphone is no longer supported, as it has gone to the project Ring, which cannot be installed without adding additional repos.

4) Point me to a place with instructions on compiling mplayer with VDPAU support. If you don't know, I'll just google it.
I have tried many ways to enable vdpau support in my machine but for no avail. A member here helped me very much but I couldn't manage to succeed. My system has Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, Nvidia 8500GT 512mb, Intel Core 2 duo. I have installed Nvidia driver version 195 currently available from their site. I tried compiling mplayer with vdpau support from various tutorials thread here around in Ubuntu forums.

I have a question about audio recording. I've always wanted to set up a sort of personal studio. Not anything too professional, but I want to be able to make quality recordings without too many problems. All I'll probably end up using is a midi keyboard electric guitar and bass. But what I was wondering was, is it a better idea to get a Mac for something like that, or will Ubuntu support that just fine? I know there's great software available, and I've got used to using Jack. But I've read problems about real-time kernel support and xruns with Jack and Ardour, and I'm just wondering if that's something that will make using Ubuntu for this complicated.
