In kubuntu, I know of a package kffmpegthumbnailer for video thumbnailing support. For Gnome on Debian, ffmpegthumbnailer is in the repos. I cannot however find kffmpegthumbnailer for my KDE Squeeze in the repos. Where is it? Or, is there a good replacement?

i'm using pidgin 2.7.1
how do i enable video support for pidgin?, or is it on by default?? because when i click a chat room from yahoo's list of rooms(that say people have web-cams)i don't see any options to view any of the webcams.
After I manually installed multimedia codecs, like w32codecall, I got Linux to play movies and I also got thumbnail previews of them in Dolphin. However, I noticed that recently Dolphin doesn't display my thumbnails anymore. I don't quite recall whether the any video player could use my installed codecs, at least xine works. The only thing that could have caused that is actually the automatic system updates I received. I still have my multimedia codecs installed, but Dolphin doesn't show the movie previews anymore.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever I go into the folders they're stored in and try to open them. They close so fast, in fact, that it's only after switching over to Konqueror that I found the files simply will not open. VLC/Kaffeine appears to load for a few seconds and then closes again without any indication of a bug or problem - it just doesn't work.
Been trying to sort this out for the last two days now, but I'm a complete simpleton with computers/linux and don't know anything about using the terminal, etc. (I can't even install stuff without using webpins) but now I'm stuck and searching around for people with similar problems really hasn't turned up anything that is familiar or understandable.
How this can be done? I already have the necessary codecs installed and have kde 4.2.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Debian 6.0 Testing with KDE4.4.5. I have two fixed ext3 partitions on the hard drive but when I click on the second partition in Dolphin the following error message appears: "org.freedesktop.hal.device.volume.permission denied, refusing to mount /dev/hda5 for uid=1000". I have searched the kde forum and other sites and have found reference to it on other distributions. It appears to be a hal configuration problem. KMint kde 4.4 seems to have resolved the problem as my other partition is running the same kde version and I can access the debian partitions. Perhaps I should just manually mount the partitions when needed!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to view the footage I have in 1080i AVCHD on my new system but can only view it in VLC, and then only when hardware acceleration is turned off, and there's still a bit of shearing with a hexcore and a Radeon 5850.
Is there a trick to get it to play and/or preview in Mplayer/OpenShot/PiTiVi ? I've tried them all, and I can hear sound but no video. Maybe there's a system-wide way to shut off video decode acceleration.
I guess what I'm asking is, can anyone play/preview/edit in these applications with AVCHD or is it something with my new system? Everything else seems to work great. Maybe I need to try turning off compiz compositing?
Unfortunately, I bought the damn thing to do exactly this kind of video editing, and don't want to have to drop back into Win 7 to use Vegas.

If you haven't done this fix, download the three iso files to see this problem in Debian 8 32bit: dban-2.3.0_i586.iso shows as normal in Dolphin. [URL]....

I just reinstalled yesterday Ubuntu on my second PC, I didn't use 2nd PC for a while so I decided it is time to refresh Ubuntu on it. I installed sopcast to watch some football games. I setup VLC as a main player, so when I past address to sopcast and start bufforing VLC turned on and I was able to watch game, after sec some small windows with error appeared sayin' "VLC probably does not support this sound or video format "wmap"" I closed this windows and noticed there is no sound... I don't know how to fix this problem it never happend before.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I am copying from DVD to my comp - Dolphin copies some files and directories and some did not. I have to check what was copied and what was ommited and fix the bad copying by copying again. The DVD is okay, it is perfectly readable. There is also plenty of memory around (8 GB). The behavior is new in Jessie, Dolphin in Wheezy used to work flawlessly.
I have met this strange behavior after copying archived data to my new Debian installation. The copyings were "huge tasks", for example 2000 files, more than 1GB total. "Small tasks" seem to copy okay. Nevertheless, the danger or missing files is annoying. What to do?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:
1.aptitude install libdrm libva.
2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.
3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.
My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?
After some update this morning, I can't play any video in Karmic. I've been using VLC for everything, now there is no video, only sound with the error message: p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this. Totem: "Can't play a text file without video."

But when I use them or look them up in the character map, all I see is the square with the code inside. Is there some font package I can install from the repository that has better support for these characters?
E.g., when I am instant messaging my girlfriend, I like to use the HEAVY BLACK HEART character (❤, U+2764). But there are a whole bunch of other "romantic" characters that are listed but not actually displaying for me, like the KISS MARK (U+1F48B), which I would like to use. These characters apparently show up on her system, which is an android phone.
Is there any way get a VoIP-client with ZRTP-support for SIP, without having to add extra third party repos, ect.? Is there anything in the the Debian repo's that actually support this protocol at all?
None of the two clients I've tried so far (Linphone and SFLphone) work out of the box on Debian. Linphone doesn't work with ZRTP on Debian (bug #743474), it work an all other systems, but not for Debian. SFLphone is no longer supported, as it has gone to the project Ring, which cannot be installed without adding additional repos.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe sysytem I use is Debian Squeeze. what's wrong but jackd2 from debian official repositories does not work with alsa (I have alsa-base, alsa-tools, libaudio-dev, libaudiofile-dev and libasound2-dev installed). Now I downloaded fresh jackd2 source from sourceforge and when I try to "./waf -configure" it it says that there is no alsa package or it's too old in the system and configures itself without alsa support.

All the old thumbnails are till showing, but if i get a new movie or rename an old one, it does not even attempt to create a new one. Totem is able to play all the movies without any problem. Ive also tried installing totem-xine, but it still makes no difference.

But after todays upgrade from gnome-terminal (2.3.2-1) to gnome-terminal3 Equinox theme doesn't work. My themes are installed in /usr/share/themes folder. It doesn't matter if i copy them to my home theme folder. It seems that gnome3 apps doesn't support
Reverting to previous version fixes the problem but i want to have version 3 with nice theme. Ho w can i achieve it?
I am very visual when browsing for files, so the icon that is displayed is crucial to me. At the moment it seems that the mime-type is the overriding factor for displaying the icon in Dolphin and Konqueror rather than any content. There appears to be something for GNOME for this.

The Program is Sketchup which creates *.skp files in a binary format, but I found a ruby script that can extract the thumbnail (*.png). Now I wanted to register it in the gnome configuration according to the following instruction:[URL].. It works perfect if I execute the script manually (package ruby installed, script is executable):

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis system is basically working fine, but I'd like to change the video resolution. It has defaulted to the monitor's native resolution, which is 1920 x 1024. I'd like to set 1600 x 900. However, it's not in the list. In fact, the other resolutions listed in System => Preferences => Monitors aren't even the same ratio -they're more like the old 4:3.
Background: desktop pc with AMD64, 4GB RAM, etc.video is Nvidia Geforce 8200 or 8400installed debian 6.0 with the default "base" or "basic" or somesuch, plus "graphical environment". However, there is no such file on my system. So I googled more, and posters give the following advice: kill the X server, kill the gdm, and then give command: Xorg -configure and this is supposed to generate the config file. However, for me it did not generate the file. Instead it failed with the error message: "Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices".

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to dual-boot Windows 7 and Debian 6 upon its release on my sister's laptop. I want to share a partition between the two of them so that /home points to this directory and the Windows equivalent also points to it (C:Users).
Anyway, I've heard good and bad things about the NTFSMount driver (I think it's NTFS-3G now) and the NTFSprogs project and so I am not so certain what I should believe. I do know that NTFS has relatively high overhead, though I do not recall the source of this assertion, so I am considering the use of EXFAT. An open source EXFAT project is hosted on Google Code at [url] and it utilizes the kernel module FUSE.
I'm quite certain that I've got everything covered on the Windows side -- that is, I know that both NTFS and EXFAT will be suitable filesystems for my required usage.
My issue is that I'm curious which will have superior performance and stability in Debian. I planned on building the package from source and mounting the device in my FSTAB but I have also found a PPA for Ubuntu on Launchpad at [url] that I could borrow the debian/rules from and make a .deb package from.
What do you guys think? Should I go at it with the EXFAT or NTFS partitioning? Is NTFS-3G actually fairly supported at this point? Or perhaps should I consider some alternate method?
I have also considered that the only files she will be sharing are those of music, videos, and pictures so it could be better to just link /home/xxxx/Pictures (Music and Videos, too) to the new partition instead of all of /home.
VLC says: "main input error: ES_OUT_SET_(GROUP_)PCR is called too late" when I am playing back most Bluray discs I have tried.

3. Use Pulseaudio - this does not work for me to get HDMI sound and I do not use Pulseaudio as a rule
I have just tried to compile VLC 2.2.2 and the configure script finished properly but early in the build it fails.
With make the error is:

With the bugged audio drivers I'm going to replace the computer but it would still be nice to be able to know the solution to compiling VLC 2.2.2.
