I moved an LVM to a new computer, but everytime I reboot I have to do vgchange -ay and then mount it. I tried putting it in fstab, but it seems it doesn't work because the volume group is disabled when booted

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got connecting to our NAS over NFS working perfectly. Direct NAS Reading & Writing - How? But on Saturday I found out it had stopped working. For no apparent reason, not straight after an update either I don't think. When I manually try to mount --verbose:

Corresponding fstab line that used to work just fine. 192.168.100.14:/IHL /mnt/IHL nfs auto 0 0 For now, I can drop back to Samba but this is a PITA as I can't open OpenOffice documents and write to them directly on the NAS. The fact smb://192.168.100.14/IHL works proves networking wise we're cool too. There is no firewall between this PC and the NAS, the NAS is instructed to allow my PC's LAN IP full access. OpenSuse's software firewall has been told to allow NFS Client too. Why would this setup break out of nowhere? How can I debug this best? I see nothing relevant in /var/log/messages How can I get it to work again? A hopeful reboot didn't do its usual wonders...
I cut paste sys folder, tmp folder, and many more folder to a backup storage place , after that folder icon and other icon converted into txt icon , i can make any folder but can't access, can't open storage, thrash disappear, terminal icon disappear, and also the application and places and system icons, after that someone suggested restarting may help but i can't restart it , so i unplugged the power wire and replugged it and restarted the system but it can't open , all things comes fail, and show INIT: "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes. after each 5 mins this msg is repeating
View 4 Replies View RelatedAbout a year ago, the motherboard/CPU failed, and i was able to just swap the hard drive into an old computer we had and it worked. (I know i got lucky).Well, it's happened again, and I took the Hard drive from the old system and put it into a new one. I can get the system booted up on the old system, but hardware issue prevent me from using that system.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was looking for some way to make 'watch folder' and I found and installed inotify and incron. Explanations were perfect and everything seemed great. So I made test script and it worked as expected.
Now, bash script that was evoked by event by incron consisted this terrible line:

mv * /some/folder/
...
which I expected to be run from watched folder, but instead it is run on holy root /
Rest is tragedy: everything was moved to this folder and I can't access any command. Terminal was opened but it did not accept commands. I cd to '/some/folder/bin' then tried to execute command but no luck. I tried also Ctrl+Alt+F1 - same.
What can I do except reboot. Now what? Grub rescue failure prompt. I went in BIOS to make it boot from separate SATA HD with Windows 7, but it somehow isn't listed there. I can't think why. I tried from this Live CD to move folders to correct location, but it's Permission denied
[edit] Re-reading now, in terminal command 'cd' (change directory) was working, but sure not ls, mv and others. Maybe I could have done something, but probably not, network connection was lost, music stopped playing everything was vanishing...
I've got a couple of commercial NAS boxes and I'm wondering if they (ReadyNas duo, DLink DNS-323) or any other NAS is suitable for having their RAIDed disks moved to a software-based NAS. To be specific, I'm a big fan of the (largely) Debian-based Ubuntu. Can the aforementioned NAS drives be migrated to Ubuntu (e.g. using the mdadm Linux command)?
Secondly, is there any commercial NAS that can be migrated over? Incidentally, here is a link to somebody who succeeded in a migration:URL...My specific scenario I'd like to prepare for, is the eventual (sudden) death of one of the NAS motherboards.
I am running opensuse 11.2 KDE, and for some reason on the taskbar all the notification area/clock has moved from the right to the left, and all my open windows aren't appearing on the taskbar.

There is one that I never seen before but I admit it is very useful: the auto resize window feature. I use the 11.3 (KDE) (milestone 4) version. Just wanted to ask if this is a package for ths or is hard-coded into the system? And is it KDE-specific?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter a new Fedora 12 installation, i cannot automount my Windows partition. My system is setup originally at windows XP ,partitioned, then change to Fedora 10. Change to Fedora 11 through update.System very slow.
I decided to upgrade to fedora 12 by DVD installer, then i have to mount manually to access my back-up, when typing su -c '/sbin/fdisk -l' at terminal, this is the code:
my partitioning layout was as follows
Vista Recovery
Windows 7
GRUB
Extended
-->Fedora 12 (ext4)
so, I shrunk my recovery in Windows 7 successfully, and booted into my Fedora 12 live cd to run Gparted, and move the partitions so that the free space could go towards fedora, I did such, and then I couldn't expand the partition to my dismay. Next, I woke up this morning, tried to boot to fedora to run SSH, grub loaded, but when I tried to boot fedora, I got the "File system check failed" error, and when I tried 7, it just went to a blank screen with a single "_" in the top left-hand corner.
I don't use a KDE or Gnome, but want to have USB and cdrom media automounted by ivman. That worked fine with OS 11.1 (with the help of a selfmade "mountpolicies.fdi"). I installed and started ivman on a freshly installed and up-to-date OS 11.2 running icewm as WM, but an USB stick or USB disk is only automounted if ivman is restarted after every insertion of the device, or if it is present at boot time.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Suse since 6.5. I am no linux-expert, just power-user for years (no windows, no MAC OS X) at 3 computers at home and at work.
I just did two bare-bone-installs from up-to-date dvds with opensuse 11.3 at two almost identical Dell Inspirion 6400-Laptops. Clear, flawless installation without any workarounds... Same install at a Dell Desktop Computer without any problems. Automatic updating.
But both Laptops are having problems to read and show inserted data-cdroms. Knowing from the old versions and the new opensuse 11.3 at the desktop-PC what should happen, I have no clue what to do.
It is definitely no technical problem:
- the name of the inserted data-cdrom can be seen in k3b
- inserted dvds are triggering the correct action (!) (suggestions are shown what to do with the dvd; cdrom: no results, no suggestions, just a short and proper working of the cd-device itself can be heart)
- the data-cdrom can be mounted manually
What did not help:
- inserting a data-cdrom as root
- changing the permissions of non-root-users
- several updates of opensuse 11.3
- reading several forums (the answers go into the directions newbee-who-does-not-know-how-openuse-works, wrong-installation, wrong-updating-of-an-old-opensuse-version, geek-how-screwed-up-his-installation-with-manual-wrongdoings => nothing which helps in my situation)

Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.5I have read many articles on this forum & on the web but I am still not able to automount a data CD (I haven't tried audio yet).
I created a directory /media/cdrom
I added my user name to group disk & cdrom.
I added the following line to fstab (my drive is an ide cdwriter):

If I put a cd in the drive there is lots of action of the read light but nowhere within KDE that I can find to access the CD. Is it possible that making a change to 'device actions' in 'configure desktop' is what I need to do? If so, what do I enter or change?From terminal the command 'mount' does not show it mounted. At this point I can manually mount the cd.Also note that in YaST it shows up in the hardware list after probing hardware but it does not appear anywhere else in YaST (and I don't know if it is supposed to show up).

Until recently I had SD card reader of my laptop turned off in BIOS, now I turned it on and hardware wise it is working fine (I can mount SD cards manually) - but how can I get opensuse to mount the cards automatically upon insertion? (is working for other media) It probably something trivial, but I missed it...

Only didn't work out how to resolve this annoying behaviour.When I burn a CD/DVD K3b accepts that I have valid meia & proceeds to burn, when the disc has been burnt out it pops. So I re-insert the disc & no automounting?I have put myself in the 'cdrom' & 'disk' groups, just to ensure it wasn't something I'd not done. It was working fine last time I checked, so don't think it's that.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOnce I insert a UDF-based DVD, such as a movie or Windows 7 OS install DVD, the disc will not automount in the GNOME desktop. As a result, Nautilus and other gnome programs like Brasero, cannot read the disk.
However, KDE-based apps like k3b and k9copy are perfectly able to detect a DVD with the UDF filesystem for burning or extracting data. The disc drive is a Plextor PX-716SA SATA-based model. The problem seems to be endemic to openSUSE 11.3, as UDF-based DVDs automount perfectly fine in Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows Vista on the same computer. In fact, these DVDs had no problems automounting in openSUSE 11.2 prior to performing a clean install of 11.3. Manually mounting such a DVD does work, using a command such as:

Running 11.3, KDE 4.4.Have searched all over hell on the Internet, no solution found.When I insert a data CD or data DVD created with K3B sometime in the past, the Device Notifier pops up with NO description of the device plugged in. After it goes away, I can hover over it and it will say the name of the device which is the volume label of the backup CD or DVD.However, when I go to Konqueror, there is nothing showing under /media.If I run Dolphin and view the Places menu, the CD shows up there, I can double click on it and open it.
In Device Notifier Settings, under Removable Devices, I have Enable Automatic Mounting of Removable Media checked, as well as Only Automatically Mount Removable Media That Has Been Manually Mounted Before, and Automatically Mount Removable Media When Attached.The CD inserted does appear in the Attached Devices list in the Removable Devices.If I put a CD in and check Konqueror, it does not show under /Media. If I then load Dolphin, it shows in the Places menu and under /Media. THEN if I go back to Konqueror, without doing anything else, it will THEN show up in /Media.If I then close Dolphin and eject the CD/DVD, it disappears from /Media as expected. If I then reinsert the DVD into the drive, without opening Dolphin, it will re-appear in Konqueror under /Media as it should.Why isn't this working properly in Konqueror? It's a massive annoyance.There is zero documentation for Device Notifier available and especially for setting up Device Settings.At one point, I thought that "Only Automatically Mount Removable Media That Has Been Manually Mounted Before" might be the problem, so I unchecked it. But it does appear to be the problem.
I don't know why KDE 4.4 can't do what KDE 3.5 did - just automatically mount CDs/DVDs and USB devices without a lot of rigmarole and undocumented settings and with a simple selection of what you want to do with the mounted device (which I usually just ignore, select nothing, and go look at the inserted device with Konqueror). This was simple and worked. Now it's a nightmare and I see from browsing the forums that a lot of people have had problems with automounting.

how to get openSUSE 11.2 to automount a USB drive (Creative Zen to be precise) to a static mount point? At the moment KDE is filling up my media folder with disc-x folders and the podcatching software keeps picking the wrong one to sync to. It's not my PC so command-line mounting is out of the question.

I've done plenty of google searches but nothing I've tried has worked for 'GNOME, SUSE 11.3.' I am not sure if it is a permissions problem, configuration problem, a kernel automount, HID, or USB problem.

Got an old SUSE box from a friend, installed 11.3, got a few items: 1. didn't see any prompts to enter monitor info during install, control center shows as generic. Read about 'sax2' (hope that's right) but can't find it on my system or in the add-ons image. Do I need to hack monitor.conf? how? 2. installation aborted when trying to load 'textlive'.3. going into control center->mouse, the display quivers a little then I get kicked back out to the login prompt. 4. how to get kaffeine to process flv files? 5. how to get a flash drive to automount when I plug it in? I can manually mount ok. I guess that's about all for now.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst off I'm new to the openSUSE community and would just like to say So, to the issue at hand. I recently switched to openSUSE 11.4 from Debian. I noticed the setup didn't have an option encrypt the home folder like it does in Debian, so not being aware of any other way to encrypt it, I created a new partition, backed up my current home directory, created a new partition and mounted it as home before copying in the contents of the backup to the encrypted home partition I created. Now of course it is askingme to put the crypto password in at each boot, which isn't ideal because it's a family machine and no-one would remember the password but me. Is there any way of being able to automount the encrypted partition without having to put the key in every time? Or better yet an encrypted home folder that doesn't require the key to be put in on each login (as in Debian) without even using a dedicated partition.

I'm pretty familiar with linux, RAID, and mdadm, and up until now, I've had the RAID5 array working just fine. However, whenever I reboot, the array drops off and won't remount until I manually assemble and then mount the thing. I find this odd because I had everything automounting just fine back in 10.3, and even in 11.0 (I think - not sure on that). Currently, things are working, but I'd really like to not not have to type

i'm trying to automount a samba share on computers startup, everything works just fine when the network adapter is controled by traditional way ifup but when i'm switching to NetworkManager doesn't work anyway. i'm hiding the share information from the common user by using the /etc/samba/cifstab as i read on intrernet, in the cifstab i put //server/share /home/user/share cifs sername=user,password=pass,uid=1000,_netdev .could anybody give me a hint or tell me where to look?
