The problems I am having are: Updater Applet - it keeps trying to do the update and fails with the message: DBus error: Unable to get transaction id from packagekit. svn. I am trying to understand how to run svn client. I found installation instructions here. However, running the command zypper install subversion produces following error message:
zypper: error while loading shared libraries: libzypp.so.619: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory.
Now i have 64 bit computer i installed Slackware 23 64 bit on it. i followed Alien Bob's multi lib how to and installed needed libraries one by one. everything is fine expect wine configure script can not find some libraries needed: libgsm, libmpg123, libopenal, libxcomposite.
I have already installed 32 bit compatibility packages and used /etc/profile.d/32bit.sh as recommended in Alien Bob's howto. configure -- does not really list anything for pointing for libraries.
I am trying to install some NVIDIA drivers on my machine. I went through the process and got this message:

I really just want to get these NVIDIA drivers up and running. I already installed and updated the headers to just be able to half-way install the drivers (the second monitor works now).
Im trying to instal Sun Virtualbox but when download completes and I click on install I get the following error>>Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) I wont even bother with this software if there are others out there that are as easy to use. I used it on Windows and thought it was great ! (thats how I eventually switched to Linux, by using it virtually at first)
View 5 Replies View Related I am trying to install gcc 4.2.4 I specifcially need C++ 4.2.4 and gfortran 4.2.4. I successfully installed gcc 4.4.1 through yast. However, the software I am trying to compile will not compile with 4.4.1. After contacting the software support, they inform me that it will only compile with 4.2.4. So, I searched yast with no luck. I have found a .tar.bz2 on the internet. I attempted to configure and then build. I get the following error after running the make command.
configure: error: cannot find neither zip nor jar, cannot continue
I'm having trouble installing software from the source files. From what I can gather the problem lies with not having the correct c libraries installed. My understanding is you use the ./configure, make, and make install commands in a terminal to install. And that the configure command checks to see if you have everything to install. this is the output when I try to configure:

I'm trying to build and install snd (downloaded from planetCCRMA)from source. It requires Gtk+ so I installed the appropriate libraries (I think ?) using apt-get. Then I ran ldcofnig. When I run the configure script I get the following error message:

I havent used Linux in a long time. I dug up an old copy of Suse (version8.2), and installed it on an old 599MHZ PC. Ive been trying to update the various libraries to be able to get a updated version of Firefox installed. Is there any chance that this can work? I need to know if Im wasting my time and should just put winxp on this PC. Also, I cant get any repositories working. I assume the default ones I have on the Suse installation are bad and the ones for the later versions will not work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had dual screen config (large desktop) going on 11.2 with proprietary nvidia driver without problems. After upgrade to 11.3 this didin't work. I was not able to find a way to configure nouveau drivers, and it was stuck in the 'twinview' mode, so decided to install binary nvidia instead (the 'hard way'). Took me a while to figure out 'nomodeset' thing, but in the end drivers were installed successfully. The problem now is that only monitor displays anything, and I can't find the nvidia control panel to activate second monitor and extend the desktop there.
Used to be able to install nvidia control panel easily in 11.2 with one-click install, but for 11.3 the page says that the one-click install buttons aren't ready yet (SDB:NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE) So my question is 'how to get dual screen going and extend my desktop to second screen using 11.3 and nvidia 210 card' ? And I don't care whether it's nouveau or proprietary drivers, as long as it's easy to configure and it works.

I am trying to compile some software written by a colleague in the lab that uses mpicc. When it is compiled on his account, it works fine, but fails on mine (on the same machine). When I type simply
>mpicc
I get the error

I have tried to follow these instructions. The files in the tar.gz archive provided by FastCGI.com no longer corresponds to the instructions there, but I was still able to run the ./configure and make commands so I believe FastCGI is installed.
But why can not the library be properly linked to? Really hope you can help me out on this one!
I accidentally deleted one of the libraries in /lib or /usr/lib and now when I boot into Debian, it won't load the GUI. I get an error message saying that something failed because the library needed did not exist (I couldn't read it because the text was scrolling by so fast, so I don't know exactly what it said). I need to find an archive or something of all the system libraries for Lenny so I can reinstall them. Is there a place online where I can download them?

I have just downloaded, configure'd, make'd and make install'ed the Google Log Library to my computer. It built all required files (as far as I can see) and copied the .so file (libglog.so.0.0.0) to /usr/local/lib. Then it created two symbolic links called "libglog.so.0" and "libglog.so" that point to that shared object file:

Now I'm trying to execute a program that uses the library, but when I start it, I get the error message that it can't open the so-file:

With out it functioning normally, I can't use openSUSE's update mechanism to fix my system. Whenever our computer goes into sleep mode/screensaver under my wife's login, it stalls and will not wake up. Doesn't happen under any other user logins (go figure ). While trying to troubleshoot that issue, I reviewed the system log via YaST. I got a LOT of Apr 11 15:25:52 linux-d8dy kernel: sr0: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
And by a lot, I mean it is every second. I don't have anything looking for a CDROM file that I know of. Can someone tell me what is causing this? Is there a way to make it stop?

I aim to access it using VNC from another VISTA laptop. How should I configure the linux box to support this scenario? I tried looking for unofficla repos that had it,a nd in fact google threw up a user called Rotkraut's repor directory, but thought he google search engine could see it, I couldn't. So I went over to the mpich website and saw that several rpms were available for different version of fedora. Is it useful to try those? And if so, which version? Fedora 10? Fedora 11? Fedora 12?
