Feb 4, 2010i am using Education openSUSE11.1. the binaries like ifconfig,rmmod,insmod are not found... how do i install these binaries?

Sep 1, 2011I have the newest version of opensuse dual booting on my computer because I will be writing and running some molecular simulation programs this year on a computer cluster at the university and the computers on the cluster are using eclipse and opensuse so I wanted to have these set up at home so I could work at home a bit.
Anyway, I downloaded the eclipse indigo IDE for c/c++ for linux of the eclipse website and extracted it to my home/user directory. Whenever I try to run a program in eclipse I get a "Binaries not found" error. I installed the c/c++ development tools in Yast and also installed gcc and make thru zypper in the terminal. What is causing this problem? I've looked on forums and tried to fix this for the last couple days and I feel like i've tried everything.

A network client computer gets ip address from dhcp server, loads initrd and failed on Loading Istallation System stage 4 or 5. If I try to continue installation in manual mode I get an error net_activate: ifconfig eth0 up failed I tryed network cards from different vendors it did not help. Ubuntu linux installs successfully in current environment.

But now it has vanished and i donno when. i tried ifconfig eth0 up but no use. The result of cat /etc/network/interfaces is as follows

General :: Ubuntu - Cannot Execute Basic Commands (ps, Ls, Ifconfig) - File Not Found
May 4, 2011When I try execute a variety of basic commands (including ps, ls, ifconfig, locate), I receive the error 'no such file or directory'.
Here are some suggestions that I've found online, that I have tried without success: I did a 'whereis ps' and found the file in the /bin/, and have checked that '/bin' appears when I do 'echo $PATH' I did a filesystem check which showed my hard drive as being clean I tried doing a 'sudo chmod 777 ps' but was told that I dont have permission. I don't think permissions for these files would have changed though (and I can't check as I can't run the 'ls' command).

Mar 20, 2011 I was trying to compile and insert a module. The module compiles fine and creates tool.ko file(am compiling it from Desktop). Next when I try to use "insmod tool.ko" , it gives em this error: insmod: error inserting 'tool.ko': -1 Operation not permitted.I tried to use modprobe instead , thinking it might install the dependencies(if any) by itself: "modprobe -v tool.ko" but it gives me this error
FATAL: Module tool.ko not found
I went over some linux forum posts and tried to resolve it but no use.I copied all the files from Desktop to the /lib/modules/2.6.34.7-0.7-Desktop/build folder and then ran the commands but still face the same problem. Used this "/sbin/depmod -a " thinking it might update the modeprob.conf file, but no use !

May 24, 2009I'm new to openSUSE and as a matter of fact, to linux too. I've got a Linksys WUSB600N wireless adapter which used to work fine with some live versions of linux that I was testing out before moving onto suse... Each time, upon booting using live CDs, I used to copy the driver I had downloaded from:
SpeedShare - Download rt2870-kernel-2.6.24-nemesis.tar.bz2
Then 'make' and get into the driver's os/linux directory to load the driver using 'insmod rt2870sta.ko' Now, upon doing a 'make' and 'make install', followed by the 'insmod rt2870sta.ko', I get the error saying:
insmod: error inserting 'rt2870sta.ko': -1 Invalid module format
I tried doing 'modprobe -rv rt2870sta' and didn't get any error messages. But while doing 'modprobe -v', this error shows up: insmod /lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt2870sta.ko

Dec 13, 2010I cannot seem to create a tun device using ifconfig, even though the module is loaded, and the node tun is present in /dev/net and appears to have correct access permissions, trying to use nstx which requires the tun device. Only thing I can think of is adding an alias, but not sure where, since there is no /etc/modprobe.conf or /etc/modules.conf in SUSE 11.3.

Sep 13, 2011I have created my own distribution with susestudio.com , based on jeOS template and it works well But I have some problems with network configuration. I make a default configuration with susestudio ( configuration -> General -> network ) and I put for example 172.16.0.185 address. I also put a script which configures IP address with different informations coming from for example a serial port to make my own IP address. This script make the new address and call the ifconfig system program. For example, the script calls "ifconfig eth0 172.16.0.182". And now, I can ping the two addresses, 172.16.0.185 and 172.16.0.182. Is this normal ? I thought the new command "ifconfig eth0 172.16.0.182" would overwrite the old value ( 172.16.0.185 ). It works as this on other distribs ( like ubuntu ) but not on opensuse.
I know that I can have 2 addresses but using the following syntax : "ifconfig eth0:1 A.B.C.D" (if kernel supports aliases ) , and I don't know if it is normally possible to have 2 address from the same subnet. How can I overwrite the default config , and not to have the first address available ?
OpenSUSE Install :: Cannot Install 12.1 M5 From Hard Disk - Error - No Repository Found
Sep 13, 2011I would like to test 12.1 M5 on my real hardware, so I have special for this purpose two additional partitions (sda2 (to install milestone) and sda3 (to store installation ISO files)). I am running my stable 11.4 with Grub on sda1.
I do not like to burn DVDs just for short test of one milestone, so I was used to download DVD ISO, to unpack it to sda3 partition with all its files, then I changed Grub to boot install Linux from sda3. Installation complains there is no DVD or CD, then I chose to force installation from hard disk and select sda3 partition and select root directory "/". As I was used to from 11.4 this will start installation as it would be started from DVD.
But I think the problem has appeared since 12.1, where I get message: No repository found. (on sda3 / ), so the installation does not start.
I know this is not official way to install openSuse, but it worked before, and it was fast and easy for me, to install from hard disk.

Jun 1, 2011I have been noticing a trend on boxes running 11.4 getting RX dropped packets where prior to 11.4 they did not get them. Basically every box running 11.4 now logs dropped RX packets. Have tried changing cables, and in one case replaced the NIC with a different brand (and driver) nic. Also played with receive buffers and yet the counters still increment. In addition to OpenSUSE, I run several operating systems to include Centos, Scientific Linux, Debian, OpenIndiana, HP-UX, VMS and so forth. So far this anomaly has only shown up on machines running OpenSUSE 11.4. Any one else noticing this on your OS 11.4 machines? If so, were you able to resolve?

OpenSUSE Install :: Partitions Not Found At Install?
May 22, 2011I'm trying to migrate from Ubuntu but I'm stuck at partitioning part of the installation... The problem is that the partitions are not recognized (I have NTFS + EXT3). I see only /dev/sda and it says it's unpartitioned When installing Ubuntu I had similar problem and I was solving it by removing dmraid.

Jan 24, 2010I have a laptop running 11.2 with an internal Broadcom-based Wi-Fi card that's working fine. I'm trying to get 802.11n going with the WUSB600N. The USB ID on this device is 1737:0079. I believe this means it's a "V2" with an RT3572 chip.
No driver loads for this device when it's plugged in. If I do a "modprobe rt2870sta", a driver loads, and syslog shows "rtusb init" and "usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2870". But ifconfig -a doesn't show a new network interface. I've also tried building the RT3572 driver from the manufacturer's web site. It builds fine, and modprobe will load it, but I get the same results as the rt2870sta driver.

Als ich nun in Suse die Bootreihenfolge (vorher Suse jetzt Windows) �ber Yast ge�ndert hatte.Zeigte mir mein Computer nur noch"no operating system found" an. Mit der Software Super Grub Disk konnte ich das Suse wieder starten (dann erscheint auch die Boot-auswahl). Daduch konnte ich auch alle ½nderungen rckg½ngig machen. Trotzdem bootet der Computer nicht mehr
