OpenSUSE Install :: Any Way To Backup Mail Folders?

OpenSUSE Network :: Install A Mail Server For The Company?

Aug 18, 2010

I was asked to install a mail server for the company I work for 'cause the mail fowarding service is getting pretty expensive. As an openSUSE user I decided to use my beloved distro for that task rather than a Windows 2003 Server. I want to avoid using MS Windows OS and use openSUSE so I can introduce this "new" technology to the company. I have the evil () plan to progressively migrate from MS Windows to Linux and this is an excelent opportunity for showing what is Linux capable of. Unfortunately I'm a rooky Linux admin and I could not get any satisfactory results yet. For testing purposes I managed to point an MX record to an static ip address (200.69.219.57) using No-Ip service. I've tested it using dig unitan.sytes.net MX command.

Then I installed openSUSE using 3 hdd, 1 for system files and directories and 2 setting up a RAID 1 array mounted under /var directory because I've read that there is where the e-mails will be stored. I've followed a couple of documents presented in these forums to no avail. I did install the system using LDAP but I could not get/install/create any certificate so users could not authenticate (Dovecot said so)

Ubuntu :: Evolution Receives Mails Only Once

Apr 19, 2011

I created three pop accounts in evolution. For jka-walgau.at my name, office and mobile. The first time everything ran ok (all new mails could be downloaded, and from each account mails could be send). After a day (iIset the computer up for a friend) there arent no new mails that come in (webinterface tells me there are new ones).
SSL for pop and TLS for smtp were set.
The problem is they are selfsigned certificates. The first time when I configured the accounts and clicked the button to test the authentication methods I got a warning (self signed) no button to add this cert permanently only a OK buttton and in the upper corner the (x) to close. How should I handle this problem.

Programming :: Why Does A Child Exit When The Parent Receives A Signal

Mar 16, 2011

I have a problem with the last point of some homework I have for an OS class. I need the program to print the pid upon execution, then for 10 seconds react to SIGUSR1, SIGUSR2 and SIGTERM. If either USR1 or USR2 is received, the 10 seconds are reset. Some of the functions I'm told to use are alarm(), pause() and signal(). The nicest way I found was to handle SIGUSR1, SIGUSR2 and SIGALRM in the parent process, with SIGALRM killing the child (with a SIGTERM). In the child a pause() (or for(; pause() would be enough for it to be alive until killed from the SIGALRM handler in the parent.

What I found is that I can't just do a wait() in the parent process, waiting for the child to be killed, since whenever the parent receives a SIGUSR1 or SIGUSR2, the right handler is called but the child exits nicely. I tried blocking/ignoring those signals in the child, since the default behaviour for SIGUSR1 and SIGUSR2 is to terminate the process, but the result is the same. The only way I could do it is using a waitpid() within a do { } while(!WIFSIGNALED(status)) since when the child gets killed with the parent's kill(), it's WIFSIGNALED, whereas when it exits after the parent handles a SIGUSR1/2, it's WIFEXITED.

P.S. What I'm doing to achieve the expected 10s window is calling alarm(10) in the parent process and again within the SIGUSR1/2 handlers. In the SIGALRM handler I kill the child and within the child I simply do a for(; pause()

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Vpnc Connects But Receives Nothing?

Oct 25, 2010

I'm trying to connect to a Cisco VPN at work from Ubuntu 10.10. On earlier versions, I was able to import the config and get it working. In 10.10, though, the best I've gotten is being able to connect to the VPN, see the welcome message, and have packets sent over the tunnel. I don't receive any packets, though.

The command-line vpnc client connects just fine. I found this bug report: [URL]

The symptoms it describes are exactly what I'm seeing. The apparent solution is to "make sure in your config that LZO Compression is enabled (checked) under Advanced"; however I see neither an option for compression nor an "Advanced" tab, button, or anything on my VPN config in Network Manager.

OpenSUSE :: Receiving Mail Through A "standard" Mail Server Setup?

Aug 25, 2010

Through yast2 I went to network services-->Mail server and took the standard option. My connection type is Permanent, filled in the outgoing server information and got to the incoming mail screen.

I told it to accept remote SMTP connections, open a port in the firewall and bypassed the downloading section since I just want to directly receive mail (I did however tell it I wanted a daemon to fetchmail). Told it to forward root's mail to me and a delivery mod of Directly. And finished.

The system sends mail out but I can't seem to receive any. What did I do wrong or what else do I need to do?

OpenSUSE :: Firefox, "Get Mail" Extension, Thunderbird, And Default Applications / Clicking "Read Mail" Does Nothing?

Aug 1, 2010

- Firefox 3.6.8 (64 bit)
- Get Mail extension (v3.3.4),
- Thunderbird (3.1.1)

Problem:
Clicking "Read Mail" does nothing, whereas clicking "Compose Message" opens Thunderbird as expected. Thunderbird is properly configured under "System Settings > Default Apps > Email Client".

Whereas, switching the default email client back to Kmail results in the Get Mail "read mail" and "compose message" functions properly opening Kmail in both instances.

This problem occurred for me before (when using openSUSE v11.1 and earlier versions of the apps), but I don't recall how I eventually solved it, or whether it was resolved via an update of one of the above apps/extensions. Nonetheless, I'm now confronted by the very same problem again.

Programming :: Creates A Child Process With Fork And, When The Child Ends, Receives The SIGCHLD Signal And Wait For Its Termination?

May 23, 2011

I have a doubt about signals in C programming. I have done this little program to explain it. It creates a child process with fork and, when the child ends, receives the SIGCHLD signal and wait for its termination.Ok, quite easy, BUT when I execute this code the SIGCHLD signal is received twice, first as an error (returns -1) and the second one to finish the child process.I don't understand the meaning of the first received signal. Why is it generated? Is the code wrong? (if you add the SIGINT and press Ctrl+C during the execution it also receives two signals instead of one)

Code: #include <stdio.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <string.h>

Programming :: C/C++: Broadcast Receives No Answer - Can't Find Right Answer

How can I set the outgoing port for the socket? In wireshark, my outgoing port is 1024, and i want to set it to 6800 (or a similar port) I see the outgoing broadcast-message in wireshark, but no answer. There are three ECU's in the LAN, which should answer. The following code is a mixture of C/C++ and jointed from different articles:

In wireshark I can only see the outgoing message. But the "recvBuffer" (in the lower part of the code) contains the same content as the sendBuffer. Is it right, that I need a sender and further more a receiver? Or should I receive the broadcast-answer on the same socket on which I send the bc?

Also, is it possible to have own domain ? like user@example.com....i mean to have own email address setup.

Ubuntu Servers :: Secondary Mail Server And A Mail Gateway/relay?

Aug 3, 2011

Our primary mail server is Exchange 2003 Standard on Windows Server 2003 Standard - don't shout at me; I inherited it already set up this way.I have a couple of hardware identical redundant servers (HP ML350 boxes), all with very fast 2 or 4 disk arrays, multiple core CPUs and plenty of memory, and I am looking at two potential new additions to the infrastructure.

A secondary mail server is high on my list of priories. I've been well and truly bitten by Exchange in the past and given that this particular box has been running four years straight and that it's mail store is dangerously large, having a secondary mail server in place suddenly makes a lot of sense.

A new Exchange 2010 box is currently being set up, but the secondary mail server will remain in place even when the new Exchange server is brought online, so this won't be a wasted exercise.... I also want a gateway box in place to filter and relay mail to the primary server, or to the secondary server if the primary is unavailable. Currently our outer perimeter is:

ISP supplied CISCO router
Draytek VigorPro 5510 UTM

Untangle running in bridged mode (primarily used for SPAM filtering, URL blacklisting, and very little else) Exchange 2003 sits behind the Untangle box. This is how I want to end up:

CISCO >> Draytek >> Ubuntu gateway >> Exchange/secondary mail server

I know I could replace/remove the Draytek but I want it to remain for several reasons, including lots of VPN dial-in users already configured and that it offers us an additional layer of email antivirus scanning before things hit the Exchange box. No point switching all of our remote workers over to new tunnels unnecessarily...

I have done some research and have started testing a pilot secondary mail server using Ubuntu/postfix DNS is properly set up and MX records and reverse PTR records are all present and correct, and things are looking encouraging so far. Before I go out over deep waters and start to flounder, has anyone who has done something like this got any obvious howlers I should be looking to avoid ?
