Server :: Bind Receives NOTIFY For External View But Not Internal?

Jul 12, 2011

I have two DNS servers, one local and one remote, and I am trying to get them to talk to each other using views.

The problem I'm having is that the remote server can talk to the local one and receive zone files, but if I update the local server internal view, the remote doesn't receive the update. Here is my config:

Quote:

key "external" {
algorithm hmac-md5;
secret "xxxxx";
};
controls {
inet 127.0.0.1 allow { localhost; };

CentOS 5 Server :: BIND Notify From Non-master?

Aug 26, 2011

I have setup two BIND9 servers as slaves for an internal Windows domain. I receive messages in my logs about a Windows server not being the master for the slave domain on BIND. I have placed the allow-notify statement in the global options section of named.conf, as well as setting the IP address in the masters section of the zone. I'm confused as to why I'm still getting this error message.

Ubuntu Networking :: Internal DNS Server With BIND ?

Aug 29, 2010

Basically, i want to be able to type a domain in my browser e.g. default.dev and it direct to the ../www/default folder on the Ubuntu Server on my network. The reason being is that as a web developer i have a number of sites that i'm working on locally and i'm getting tired of adding the domain to my hosts file and then creating a virtual host in Apache - i believe this can be done with BIND - is this right? If so what steps are required?

Server :: Using BIND To Resolve Internal Non-FQDN Names

Sep 3, 2009

I have an RHEL5 server running BIND. I'd like to be able to resolve internal, non-FQDN names such as "wiki" for the company internal wiki. in my named.conf file...Named-checkzone returns no errors, and nslookup works when specifying the server explicitly, but no browser resolves the name when entered in the address line. I know this by no means a standard use of BIND, but I'm sure someone out there's pulled this off. I did see when googling someone suggest "load the root zone (.) as master, and add your "hosts" as TLDs, using CNAMEs", but tried that and probably did it wrong since it didn't work.

CentOS 5 Server :: Cannot Get Bind9 Internal View Served To Connecting Vpn Client.

Sep 25, 2010

I have a white slate centos 5.5 installation on a virtual box at Media Temple (one of their new VE servers). I am trying to create a development environment where I can have Bind9 serve up one set of zone files to me and other developers on the internal network and another set of zone files to external requests (ie... using the views feature). I would like to be able to develop for sites for which the dns is not yet pointed at my server. The network is created by having the VE server be an OpenVPN server, and connecting my client box to the server (my mac - 10.8.0.6 / my ve server 10.8.0.1).

I have the connections working fine, I have also been able to route all network traffic from my mac through the vpn to the server. For some reason, I cannot get the DNS server on the ve server to serve me an internal view zone file. When my vpn is on, I cannot ping or navigate to any web pages from my mac. I think this is because my ve server is not setup as a dhcp server and the ip tables are not setup to allow all internal requests to use the server to go get web pages.

I cannot view-ping anything else from my mac/client when on the vpn, I can successfully ping any website my ve is authoritative for. This tells me that my ping is obviously going over the vpn, and thus an internal request, but the external zone file is still served up. The following is my named config.

acl "lan_hosts" {
10.8.0.0/24;
127.0.0.1;
};

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't View External IP Links To Http Server On Same Machine

Sep 1, 2011

I have an apache server running on my ubuntu machine. I can view them using my local ip (192.168.1.6):80/. And my friends can view the things hosted on my server using my external ip (example http://123.123.123.123:80) but when a friend links back to me to show me what they are looking at and share the moment, I can't view the link, it simply redirects to my router login page.

I had an older linksys router and this could work fine. I could click on the links with my external IP and it routes back to my server for viewing.

Remember to note that I am on the machine that has the server, and I'd like to be redirected out and back to it so we can share pictures back and fourth without me having to replace the external IP address with my local one just to view that link in the browser.

I'm hoping someone here is an expert and can shed some light on it for meWe have multiple subdomains, each having it's own entry in the zone file. However, the majority of our traffic goes out an aggregated external IP address with the exception of a few instances such as our mail server and our website(s).We currently have these three records in our example.com zone file:

OpenSUSE Network :: SSH Working For External But Not Internal?

Jan 14, 2010

I have a SuSE server (sorry but no idea what version of SuSe it's running.. I'd take a guess at 10.0) on a network with several other SuSE servers. They are all able to be SSHed externally as well as internally and all have their local firewalls disabled. I just had to reboot one of the servers and it is behaving quite strangely. I am able to SSH in and out of it externally, but can't SSH in and out of it internally.

When trying to SSH out internally I get the message:
"ssh: connect to host *.*.*.* port 22: No route to host"
When trying to SSH in internally I get the message:
"ssh: connect to host *.*.*.* port 22: Connection timed out"
Using ssh -v doesn't give any more useful information.

I have double checked that the IP is correct and that the internal firewall is disabled etc. The external firewall hasn't got anything that would prevent it (and shouldn't be an issue anyway as it's an internal only problem... SSH externally works fine). Also, it might help to know that I have the same problem with ping. I can ping this server from an external system, but not from an internal one.

Ubuntu Installation :: Install To External HD To Become Internal HD

I have an older laptop with a broken CD drive so I cannot boot the CD Drive with my ubuntu image. The laptop does not support booting from a USB drive either.So what I did was take the HD out of the laptop and using a USB enclosure plugged it in to my Win7 desktop. Then I booted from my Ubuntu CD and had Ubuntu install on the USB Drive. Took the USB drive off, and put it back in the laptop. It seems to work except it looks like it was installed with my desktop hardware. Also, every time it boots it starts at a recovery screen asking if for several boot options (including win7 which does not exist on the laptop!).

Ubuntu Installation :: Cant Boot Internal Or External Hdd?

I installed again and used the default partition table and got the same error. I gave up and tried to boot my fedora 13 internal hdd but was told that there was no such device. I looked through these forums and ran a bootloader script and was told that my internal hdd had a bootloader but my external didn't. I tried to load the kernel through grub rescue, but the file system was unknown to grub. The files are still on my internal drive and I don't want to reinstall just to boot it.

Fedora Networking :: Internal Vs External WiFi On Laptop?

May 9, 2009

I've been wondering lately about what would be the best approach to take concerning WiFi on my laptop (or laptops in general) ? Understand my question concerning this is ONLY about performance and no other issue.

What is the better thing to do:

a) install a new (better) WiFi card inside my laptop,
b) remove the card inside my laptop and use a WiFi USB stick,
c) remove the card inside my laptop and use a WiFi PCMCIA card?

Is simply being external to the laptop going to give me better performance in terms of locating and using a WiFi connection? On the laptop I'm currently using I know that merely rotating the laptop can boost the connection signal strenght by 15% or more. So, I'm really wondering about this. btw, I'm seriously giving thought to glueing a 3 or 4 inch lenght of 1/2 inch pvc pipe to the lid of my laptop as a holder for a homebrew parabolic WiFi dish. The idea is to attach the USB WiFi stick to a piece of coat hanger wire. Then slide the bottom and top of the coat hanger wire into a piece of paper (that's had aluminum foil glued to it) forming a parabola behind the WiFi stick. By rotating the parabola in the pvc holder I can instantly directionalize the reception/transmission of the Wifi USB stick. I'm wondering if anyone in the forum has experienced the difference between an internal vs an external WiFi device? Secondarily, has anyone in the forum tried the parabola trick?
