i have a script in /home/rpcaldeira/server.sh to start my source dedicated server. But i would like to start this on boot time. get this to start on boot time? I'm running openSuse 11.2 in Text Mode.
View 2 RepliesI am currently having an issue attempting to set up a dedicated server for source games (TF2, CS:S, L4D2). The required port (27015), along with most others, appears closed to the rest of the world and upon a port scan with DMZ hosting on (therefore no router interference between the internet and my computer) only a few ports are open (80, 139, 443, 445). My ISP does not block ports so therefore the only issue I can find is with my computer running Ubuntu 11.04. I have ensured that all traffic is allowed via iptables and I can't think of anything else that would have ports closed.

I would like to hook up an external monitor in this fashion for a desktop. The current video card can only support a single display. So I was hoping there was someway to use a second monitor as just a permanent console since simple text shouldn't require a video card?
I'm using OpenSUSE11.2, and want to upgrade to OpenSUSE11.3 from internet. But there is not F4(Source) in boot menu. In my computer, F4 is keyboard menu. What shall I do?

The iso install DVD boots up ok, says 'welcome' in far more languages than I understand, I select English & US English then all useful progress stops. It suddenly can't detect my CD/DVD (although it DID when the system booted with the CD/DVD drive selected as 1st device to try to boot). I've tried pushing the button to eject and reload the DVD, no dice. Nothing seems to work, when I finally go for shutdown it suggests I might need to load a driver. My drive is a fairly new plextor px-b940sa.
Searching the plextor corp site for linux turns up zilch as does the knowledge base at novell.com. it's all in knowing the right magics words i suppose. my chip is the intel 6 core. my mobo is asus p6x58d (actually im wondering if it's the culprit because it does some fancy tricks). i tried my store-bought 11.1 suse install disk, it has the same difficulty. i suppose a usb-linked external dvd drive might be the obvious solution (won't cost too much but fairly likely to have some problem).
I don't know that this post fits here, nor does it fit in "Applications." installing suse doesn't seem to give you the chance to name your computer. Now my computer is called "linux-0qvi" or something strange like that. I want to name my computer. Can I do this now without screwing things up??
Also, during install, there didn't seem to be an opportunity to make a separate root password. My first (and main user) account is now set up with admin rights, so I have to type in my account password every time I do something as root. Can I set a separate dedicated root password without screwing up my system?
I have installed "open-SUSE 11.4" on a "500GB Free Agent External Hard Drive". I didn't have any problem in booting since last week that I booted it from my laptop. Also I did it before several times from then when I try to boot it e.g. from an "Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz" PC the time between loading INITRD and starting boot sequence messages lasts nearly 30 minutes!(i didn't actually measure it but it take a long time in the same order). after starting boot sequence which is showed on monitor everything looks normal. e.g copy of files would be done by speeds between 2MB/s to 30 MB/s depending on the targets.I used to use the external hard derive to boot from different laptops and PC's from start but I didn't have such a problem anytime.

I have an 1TB hard drive, half of it for Windows XP SP3, another half for OpenSUSE 11.4. After installing OpenSUSE, it didn't take me much time to notice that there was something wrong with KDE: sometimes it loaded quite fast, as expected, but most of the time I'd have to wait around 1 minute in that loading screen. Then I updated the kernel, as well as KDE itself, but that didn't solve the problem.
After that I tried to start the system using Enlightnment, and it was lightning fast compared to KDE, however, I didn't quite like its interface, and for some reason GNOME refused to start. All that was too frustrating to me, so I gave up and have been using Windows for the last few weeks. Got sick of it now and here I am on OpenSUSE again. Oh, it feels sooo much better! BUT, I'm still with the same problem.
My specs are as follow:
Motherboard: Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H (with updated BIOS, version F11)
Processor: AMD Phenom X3 8450
Memory: 2GB
Videocard: Nvidia Geforce 8500GT (using NVIDIA proprietary drivers)
OpenSUSE 11.4
KDE 4.6.0
Did I forget anything important?
Ps.: I didn't have these problems with Mandriva 2010.2, which, if I'm correct, used the same KDE version.
I wonder how could I start my ruby on rails mongrel_cluster at the start of my openSUSE 11.0 Server and I don't have a GUI. So the shell solution would be good.

* What is the command line to do so? Virtual box command is "VBoxManage startvm xxx" but for "virtual" user?
* I think of setting this line in /etc/init.d/boot.local, but I wonder if this is not too early in the boot process?

I have just done a fresh network install on SUSE on a new HP Proliant ML115 server. The install seemed to go OK, but on rebooting after the install I get a shell logon/prompt -- no GUI. Have tried reinstalling with the same result. If I try to run startkde I get a message that says "$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server."
How do I resolve this?

And I am really baffled with a strange NFS problem.I have set up the fstab on the client and exports on the server correctly, because if I manually run # /etc/init.d/nfs startStarting NFS client services: sm-notify doneI can see and use the NFS partition perfectly, there is no problem at all.But nfs cannot successfully start at boot. In yast, I have enabled nfs in "System Services (Runlevel)" at runlevel 3 and 5. So it should run automatically, but I always get the following error message:

I have just installed OPENSUSE 11.3 from a CD to a computer running WIN XP. The installation completed and I got to a desktop. I then shut down. When I restarted the computer with the installation CD removed from the drive, I got the message "missing operating system". I ran the installation again, and have left it running. As near as I can tell, the WIN Partition is still intact, but I'm afraid to shut it down for fear I once again will not be able to access either system.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am completely fed up trying to do it. I had no problems with 11.0. It refuses to start up during boot like tor. I added tor to the kde start menu and it works just fine after boot. Privoxy refuses to start up during boot. I have to go into SU mode in terminal, then it works. I need to be able to start Privoxy the same way. I tried everything from chown / chmod commands, and it made no difference. I have it set for 777, and my name along with root. I also added the group privoxy to my user ID. I need the computer to disregard that it is a root program.

I have checked Yast2's runlevel services option and dansguardian is enabled to 'Yes'. But when i check with 'service dansguardian status' it reports 'unused'.If i start dansguardian by hand, things work perfectly fine.I am in a desperate situation since there are 4 other computers which are dependent on this setup to work correctly

I have been running OpenSuSE 11.1 with the proprietary VNIDIA driver for a year or so and recently upgraded my internet connection from slow old dialup. I installed some software upgrades this made possible but the process failed on some point (I didn't make a note of the details) and the next time I tried to log on it booted up to the CLI. I tried startx and got the message;

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup a sendmail server on my dedicated server. It was pre-configured to use exim from cpanel. Is it possible to use exim for all emails from a a certain domain i setup on the server and sendmail for others?
ex.
domain1.com -> exim
domain2.com -> sendmail
If it is possible can someone let me know how i would go about doing this? If it is not how would i disable exim and use sendmail for all mail?
After installation Ubuntu Server 10.10 I don't know what to do next to access to the Internet.
