Apr 9, 2011I upgrade from 11.2 to 11.4 and now, my samba share does not mount at boot time. I see nothing in the log. What is changed in 11.4 ?

Ubuntu :: File Browser Will Not Maintain State Mounted To Samba Share?
May 12, 2010I am running Ubuntu 10.4 [64bit] on a AMD dual core with 4gb of RAM. My Problem: I am mounting to a Windows share from my Ubuntu box and everything is working as expected however, when a file is added, deleted, or modified the Ubuntu File browser does not reflect that change until the next refresh. The Windows users with Explorer will reflect the change immediately and automatically.
Is there a way to make the Ubuntu File Browser respond like Explorer when mounting to a Windows share? I call this behavior "maintaining state".
Ubuntu Networking :: Samba Can Share Mounted Thumb Drive But Can't Write?
Sep 6, 2010so after searching and reading, and searching some more, im stuck. i cant seem to get a mounted thumb drive to give write access. first thing to know is that, im using a seagate dockstar with a primary thumb drive[sda1] booting debian and samba.
i guess you could say im still in the testing phase, just trying to make sure files can be shared, mounted and accessed by users. the problem is stated as the title. i have successfully shared a folder in sda1 with rw access, but i cant do the same for the second drive[sdb1].
for sda1 with rw access, here are the smb.conf settings:

Aug 12, 2011I have been searching around but could not find an answer that suits my problem.Here is the line I have in my /etc/fstab//192.168.1.188/openshare /mnt/lacie_nas/openshare cifs errors=remount-ro,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 0 0The remote directory is a LACIE NAS.At boot the directory is not mounted but if I execute the command "mount -a" it works perfectly.

Feb 2, 2011I'm running a fedora 14 file server with samba for a windows network. When I reboot my file server my samba share is no longer available. After a long search I found that if i run nmbd as root, the share is accessible again. I guess I can run nmbd everytime I reboot but I think something is wrong with my setup and it's one of those things that if I just ignore it will come back and bite me from behind

Mar 12, 2010opesnSuse 11.1, linux 2.6.27.45-0.1-default x86_64 This host has two samba shares that are located on an OS/2 server. Neither mount at boot time but they do mount from the command line.
kernel: CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6
There are 5 other client computers that mount the same shares at boot time using almost (different user/pass info) identical data. I do not see what is different about this host.

In the Windows network, there are 2 or more shares as follows:
I can access both shares in nautilus e.g. "smb://bla.bla.company.com/share $". The shares are mounted then in "home/user/.gvfs/". ok.
In one of shares, is a file-based repo, which I can access easily with svn.
Unfortunately when I try to checkout any normal folder from a share (as in MS$ with Tortoise), I fail...
What's more in the file-based repo, external references exist to other shares in the network, the name is as "file:///X:/folder/file.txt". SVN gives error messages about such references and does not access files (where "X:/" is also mounted, but as a "test$ to smb://bla.bla.company.com/test$" in "home/user/.gvfs/ ").
My questions:
- what is the best solution to mount shares, so I can access all the SVN repos?
- How can I access normal files and folders from a share with svn?
- How can the problem with external file references in a file-based SVN repo can be solved? without to checkout/commit files "manually"...
- Some checkouted scripts (Perl, etc.) use libs from shares:
"Use lib qw(r:/tools/perl/lib/). how to get around this as well?
- How can I change mount-names: "test$ on smb://bla.bla.company.com/test$" to something like "share-test$?
- How can I change the mount location? in "home/user/SAMBA/" instead of "/home/user/.gvfs/"..
I had tried to use "fuse-smb": installed, created config, but when I run "fusesmb /home/user/SHARES/", i get an error message: smb.conf is missing.. Where can I get this config?
And one last question: Can someone recommend me a svn-gui? i have tried tried rabbitcvs, esvn and some others .. but all either do not work or crash.
I'm not sure, but maybe I can use svn and tortoise in wine, and checkout/commit the necessary files from/to "home/user/project/"? there raises the questions whether it is possible to install tortoise in wine and how to mount the shares on the wine? How to manage the hard-coded lib-names in some scripts...
OpenSUSE Network :: Samba Share Only Accessible Via IP?
Oct 19, 2010have a server here running opensuse 11.3 that I need to access via network using samba.
Samba is working so far and I can ping the serve and browse the shares from windows (WinXP) computers; but only via the IP.Now I've read up on samba on this forum and other sources, like the official samba documentation and compared my smb.conf with an older one on another server which works (and even copied this one over to the new one) - to no avail.I seem to be missing something and I just can't find it.Since the problem is probably not in the smb.conf (previously working one doesn't work on new server) - where else could I have screwed up?

Apr 13, 2010I have a samba server on my LAN. It can be accessed without any problems from Windows machines on the LAN without password. I have two computers that I have updated to OpenSuse 11.2 (both used to run 10.3). Since doing this upgrade I can no longer access the samba share from the Suse machines. Basically, both Dolphin and Konqueror ask for a username and password to access "avoca" (the workgroup).

May 31, 2010My samba seems to be mis-configured somehow. I had been using Ubuntu 10.04 and my samba browsing of my samba shares on my HTPC (running XBMCLive) had all been working fine. Then I upgraded to openSuSE 11.2 64bit. Great OS by the way!Ok so I chekced my other PC's running Ubuntu and going to the network folder I see my XBMCLive machine. Double click him and now I see my shares on that PC. So now I know its specific to my SuSE install.
Now on SuSE if I use Dolphin file manager and go to Network -> Samba Shares -> workgroup I dont see anything. And then down the bottom of the window I will see timeout error on workgroup. "workgroup" is the correct workgroup. All the services are running winbind, smbd, nmbd, xinit, swat. Firewall disabled.However when I try the above and I get the timeout error I then go to the address bar in Dolphin where it has smb as the drop down item and in the text field type in the XBMCLive PC ip address and hit enter. Then immediately I can see my shares!!! So it is working but I cant see my shares under Network->Samba Shares->workgroup.I notice in my samba error logs for log.smbd I keep seeing this;smbd_open_once_socket: open_socket_in: Address already in use

Jul 22, 2010If this is the right forum i don't know, but I'm having a problem which crashes my home server when writing to Samba. Googling and a quick search in this forum didn't help me any further. Is there anyone with a clue what to do?When I write several hundreds MB to my Samba share from a Windows machine the machine crashes (both with Win XP and Win 7). The problem is reproducible, although the precise moment (about 1 minute) or amount transfered data varies (about 300 to 800 MB). Small writes go well.Reading about 5 GB from Samba to Windows went without a hitch.

Mar 28, 2010On a small network i have 3 WinXP computers and i've just installed a two new ones with Win7 pre-installed. As server i'm running OpenSuSE 10.3 and Samba with only one share. As i mount it to WinXP computers all get same volume serial number:

...and all Win7 computers get a diffrent one:

We use application witch somehow only works when one/same volume serial number on a mounted drive is used.

Nov 3, 2010i'm trying to automount a samba share on computers startup, everything works just fine when the network adapter is controled by traditional way ifup but when i'm switching to NetworkManager doesn't work anyway. i'm hiding the share information from the common user by using the /etc/samba/cifstab as i read on intrernet, in the cifstab i put //server/share /home/user/share cifs sername=user,password=pass,uid=1000,_netdev .could anybody give me a hint or tell me where to look?

Jul 5, 2009OK... I tried everything i could think of... but i still cannot get my Open SUSE 11.1 to mount my samba share at boot! I still don't understand the 11.1 boot sequence. can NE one help me... tell me what files to give you output from... Ty guys P.S. My shares originate from a Windows Server 2003 RC2 machine, and it's dns server doesn't work correctly... so my mount command is
mount -t //192.168.x.x/files/ /nET/ -o username=linux,password=xxxxxx

Mar 19, 2011My old server machine running Ubuntu 6 experienced hardware failure, so I built a new machine with spare parts and decided to install 10.10. I used the 2 HDDs from the old machine and decided to use existing partitions for the 10.10 installation. I specified the existing partitions on a 250 GB PATA drive for root, /boot, /home, and swap. For some reason when I booted up 10.10 for the first time, the other HDD (750 GB SATA) was mounted as /boot. I never specified the second drive to be used for anything during the installation, so I have no idea why this happened.and how can I change the mount point for /boot? I would like the highlighted partition in the attached screenshot to be /boot. I really hope nothing on the 750 GB drive was overwritten in this whole process, because it contains all of my photo and video backup.

Jun 14, 2011So i've been battling this for a while now, trying all sorts of different options and searching the boards before I finally decided to post this.I can't make CDs or DVDs, so my only option is to mount the downloaded ISO file on my laptop with CloneCD, then set up PXE DHCP,TFTP server. This method works on other distros but this one in particular is causing me problems in the installer.
So here's the process:I copy the files vmlinuz and initrd from the ooti386loader directory to my tftp root directory.on the system I am installing, i run gPXE, at the prompt type vmlinuz initrd=initrd.I have tried a large combination of different options {install=nfs after I have been having trouble which I will get to later.
the kernel loads, the installer starts. prompts for "Please make sure CD #1 is inserted" naturally, i hit back and select NFS as the install source. It then prompts me for DHCP configuration and the NFS server IP and directory.I'm running an NFS v3 server (haneWIN NFS to be specific) and exported the mounted ISO (this case F) as /suse.

Sep 13, 2010I'm having a some pretty weird problems with some mounted file share in Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS. Currently we are mounting several file share stored on a SLES Files Server onto our Ubuntu Web Servers using the CIFs protocol. Occasionally ( no rhyme or reason ) we will find that when you do a directory listing on the mounted share, while you are on the Ubuntu Server, there are no files being listed. Yet if you browse the SLES File Server or any other of the identical Ubuntu Servers (with the same mounts), the files are there ready to go.
Before using SLES for our file server we tried windows, and experience many of the problem you that you see on the forums of CIFs errors on the console screen. I'm beginning to wonder if 1. we can resolve the CIFs problems in Ubuntu 10, or do we need to down grad to Ubuntu 9 or 3.) change to something other than CIFs.

Jul 18, 2011I'm having a problem changing permissions on a network share. The share is mounted on my server using cifs. It has been working perfectly for a week or more. I use a bash script to copy files from a temporary folder on the server to folders on my HTPC that are mounted on my server.The server is Ubuntu Server 10.04 and the HTPC is XBMC Live Dharma.
The problems began when I added chmod lines to my bash script to temporarily change permissions. I had the entire mounted share set to 777 on the server, and I was worried that I might accidentally delete the files or something, so I set it to 555 and then modified my script. This was not intended to be a permanent solution, but I wanted to use it as a band-aid solution until I figured out how to do it properly. The mounted folder is called "tabitha" and it is mounted in the home folder of the user "turvy" on the server.The script looks like this:
