Whenever I open software repositories or management via YaST I get an error message about a Repository initialization error From Software Repositories

trying to install broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop and broadcom-wl-5.100.82.38-7 for my wireless driver. The yast2 keep saying error. Don't know why. I installed opensue11.3 with not problem. Missing packman when i zypper repos command.Do anybody know why.I am very new to linux.I always been window user.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just installed 11.4 and was adding a new repository which I entered incorrectly. Yast2 complained and did not add it to the repository list. Now when I run Yast2 Software Management.
I get the following error message...
"There was an error in the repository initialization.
Error refreshing service Packman 11.4 (vaval.com - Islam Resources and Information. This website is for sale!
Parse error: repoindex.xml[3] Opening and ending tag mismatch: meta line 2 and noscript"
Since this line does not show up in my repository list I cannot remove it. How do I edit the data file directly and where is it located?
Hi when i run the updater or through yast i get the following
There was an error in the repository initialization.
[URL] Valid metadata not found at specified URL(s)History:- [|] Repository type can't be determined.
looking through my repositories list it seems it has added one from anything i have installed. What are the necessary ones?
'm new to linux as of today, and I'm really liking it so far, but I've already run into issues. When I open up the software manager in openSUSE 11.3 (KDE), I receive the following warning message:
There was an error in the repository initialization.'repo-update': [URL].. Repository is not cached From there, I'm unable to install anything (I want to install WICD because KNetworkManager is not working for me). How do I resolve this issue?
Have loved using v11.0 of Opensuse for years, lately I have noticed over time 7 of my 11 repo's have stopped/failed...does this means Novell-community has/will stop supporting this version and I should move on to a higher version ??? There hasnt been any change in my linux box for years.
Example: Refresh failed: Error: Could not refresh repository 'openSUSE-11.0-Oss': Valid metadata not found at specified URL(s) History: - File '/content' not found on medium [URL]' Error: Could not refresh repository 'openSUSE-11.0-Non-Oss': Valid metadata not found
Suse 11.0 nvidia software repository not working when the updater is run, and it gives an error message which indicates it must be out dated and no longer used. Here is the site in my repository for nvidia; [URL], I did try to add a new nvidia repository site with that Yast tool, but I could not get it to fully work. The new one I did find was as a ftp type, not [URL]. With this older Suse 11.0, and kernel 2.6.25.20-0.7-pae, then is it true that there may not be any more nvidia display driver updates available.? So then I should just remove that nvidia repository from the list, and be okay if the kernel does not update too much newer version, right ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI started to get an error about repositories recently, when I run Software Management in YaST on my SuSE Linux. The error kept saying `Cannot retrieve repository metadata`.
So, I wrote the following in the terminal to refresh the repositories:
But it deleted the repositories I have. So, I cannot update my software anymore. Also, when I try to add repositories using YaST, the same error message again appears.
I would like to test 12.1 M5 on my real hardware, so I have special for this purpose two additional partitions (sda2 (to install milestone) and sda3 (to store installation ISO files)). I am running my stable 11.4 with Grub on sda1.
I do not like to burn DVDs just for short test of one milestone, so I was used to download DVD ISO, to unpack it to sda3 partition with all its files, then I changed Grub to boot install Linux from sda3. Installation complains there is no DVD or CD, then I chose to force installation from hard disk and select sda3 partition and select root directory "/". As I was used to from 11.4 this will start installation as it would be started from DVD.
But I think the problem has appeared since 12.1, where I get message: No repository found. (on sda3 / ), so the installation does not start.
I know this is not official way to install openSuse, but it worked before, and it was fast and easy for me, to install from hard disk.
So I installed the Unison synch software with sudo apt-get install unison-gtk. When I set up the two directories for synchronization it looks like this: $ unison ssh:\SERVER\pathpath /var/www/path/path/path
I am getting this error in terminal Uncaught exception Gtk.Error("GtkMain.init: initialization failed ml_gtk_init: initialization failed") Fatal error: exception Util.Fatal("Error in getLogch: /home/path/.unison/unison.log: No such file or directory"
I am trying to install from the iso image that a burned to cd, but while loading it comes up with an error. Eventually it says no repository found. I am not sure why this is happening.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEarlier I have no problems when I install opensuse. After installation the network runs and I can run online updating in yast for the system. But since a few version it doesn't work after installation and I don't know why. I think maybe the errors could happen because I have no
internet connection. Today I install 11.4 and get this message when I want to run online updates in yast.
There is an error in the repository initialization
'repo-update' [URL]
[repo-update URL]
Repository is not cached
I think this problem stars with 11.1 or 11.2.
I got this error An error occurred while initializing the software repository Details: /etc/zypp/repos.d/Packman_repository_(openSUSE_11.2).repo:Line 2 is missing'='sign Try again? what is wrong???
when the YaST2 started there is no any repository and I tried to added new repository I got the error
Adding repository Main Repository (OSS) failed
The /etc/profile said that i should do that in /etc/profile.local.I create /etc/profile.local, set the aliases, then i reboot. Now i've got a broken bash enviroment. Prompt has gone, ls colors gone, useful aliases (md=mkdir) gone.I've got this prompt: 'bash-4.0$' instead of the 'username@hostname:actual dir'.The root account has got the same errors, so i think i broke something system-wide.I removed the profile.local but the problem stays. What should i do to regain the standard bash enviroment?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat the heck do I do now? 2 times I've re-installed suse 11.2 and this is what I get every time it tries the first update. I just had a perfectly fine working version of 11.2 that was installed using the network install just 3 days ago but I messed up and couldn't access mySql. Today I blew it away thinking I'd just start over and now it doesn't work. I installed it exactly the same as 2 days ago, whats changed? How do I fix this? I can't access the software repository settings in yast, nothing happens when I try to start it.

I am installing from the scratch a 11.3 on a PC on which previously 11.1 did run flawlessly. (Athlon 3700 with 3GB ram and Asrock socket 939 mainboard. Graphics is Nvidia. The installation comes every time up to 90% when it arrives at "font initialization). No error message is displayed. The little "cursor wheel" is still turning but else, there is no activity.
DVD from an sha1 checked and MD5 doublechecked download was burned with lowest speed in K3b and verified by the same program post burn, with full success of every verification.
Tried to change DVD reader but does not change the result. Runs speedy up to that step.
I am trying to Install Open Suse 11.3 (burned as an ISO DVD) along with existing Win 2008 R2 OS. When I try to boot from the DVD it just logs in to Win2008 though boot from CD/DVD is enabled in the boot sequence. So i tried to mount the ISO and run from Windows ! BUT I get an error before installation starts telling that Win2008 R2 is not supported in open suse installer! Is there anything I can do to overcome this and install/retain both OS? In fact I am even trying to c hange my win2008 from R2 to Enterprise to see if I can overcome the problem!

View 1 Replies View RelatedBeen happy with 10.3 and 11.3 almost ready to go over to Ubuntu due to partitioning bug in 11.4. Getting error 1007 on first partition written to disc. Abort, go to live CD keeps getting size of swap file wrong should be 2.00 GB, usually it is 2.01 GB. Deleted parts, tried to create using live CD 11.4. Same result. I create partitions first in 11.3 live CD then install 11.4 without formating. Will this work? Also issue with waening about Grub and disc size over 125 GB. New laptop Acer Aspire, will BIOS be ok. Dont want to lose win7 as OEM.
View 9 Replies View RelatedBefore installing OpenSUSE I shrunk my Win 7 partition down in half, then created 3 partitions out of the new free space for /root, /home and /swap. I installed opensuse and when it got to the bootloader section I kept getting Grub error 17 - cannot mount selected partition, and so on. I made sure it was writing to the MBR and also into /boot if that makes a difference, but I did get a prompt that said YaST couldn't make changes to /dev/sda (I'm paraphrasing and can't remember the exact error message). At the moment I have suse installed and my windows partition intact, but no bootloader (not even windows one) so all I can do is boot to Live CD.
Below is the output of fdisk -l. There's quite a few more partitions than it's showing, sda3, sda4 and sda5 are my /home, /root, /swap and the other ones are windows partitions, like the system recovery along with the win7 install. During the suse install I formatted the home and root partitions with ext4 filesystem.

I am seeing a udev error message on booting that I have not seen before with LInux and which I cannot interpret. My Suse 11.4-KDE installation is fairly new. My system is a System 76 PanP4 Pangolin that originally ran Ubuntu.Uname -a returns: Linux linux-zcga 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2011-04-25 21:48:33 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. My video is a Geforce 9300M with an nVidia driver.A Google search turns up the fact that similar error messages have been reported with Fedora, Ubuntu, Meego and Gentoo. These frequently have had something to do with sound and in at least one case the advised correction was to reinstall udev. I can see where bugs were filed but with no clear response. Some of these go back several years, the most recent is within the last few months. I did not see a posting that involved Suse.
1.Can someone tell me what these error messages mean?
2.Does this pose a problem?Everything seems to work normally on my system once I am through the boot process.
3.If this is a problem how does one fix it?
I'm trying to do a new net install on my laptop. I can boot into the installation kernel and I enter the http server: (download.opensuse.org) and the folder: /distribution/11.2/repo/oss. The installation proceeds to "System Analysis" and continues 90% of the way to "Build Repository" At this point, I am greeted with a red dialogue box which says: An error occurred during the installation.

Similarly, if I click on System>Add/Remove Software>Package Collections, I get No groups could be found. A cache refresh should fix this. I don't see how to do a cache refresh. I tried rpm --rebuilddb, which didn't do any good and um clean all which also did no good. I tried to install openSUSE 11.3 from the Gnome live CD. I had four partitions set already for /boot, /, /home (ext4 all) and swap from a previous failed Linux Mint installation. I installed into them, and formatted them. The /boot partition is primary and pretty well into the disk. The other partitions are logical and at the end of an extended partition which has several partitions before them. There's also an inactive Windows primary partition at the start, and a second disk with a Windows installation and a lot of logical partitions.
After install, it looks like booting into grub works fine, and I get "Error 22: No Such Partition". I then get to the GRUB menu. If I choose openSUSE from there I get:
Booting 'openSUSE 11.3'
root (hd1,2)
Error 22: No Such Partition
Booting from the live CD it looks like /boot, / and /home contain data, so they must be formatted fine.
I have Fedora 13 in a VPS. I cannot work with yum. I got this error: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try # yum list Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. verify its path and try again.
