OpenSUSE Install :: Boot Error - No Repository Found
Apr 23, 2010
I am trying to install from the iso image that a burned to cd, but while loading it comes up with an error. Eventually it says no repository found. I am not sure why this is happening.
I'm trying to set up a PXE Boot Installer for Linux. The problem I'm having right now is that our standard repo that was have set up [URL] doesn't seem to be working as an install point (I keep getting "no repository found"), even though it works great as a means for a software repo (Its used by several hundred other servers). Is there a difference between a software repository and an installation repository?
I would like to test 12.1 M5 on my real hardware, so I have special for this purpose two additional partitions (sda2 (to install milestone) and sda3 (to store installation ISO files)). I am running my stable 11.4 with Grub on sda1.
I do not like to burn DVDs just for short test of one milestone, so I was used to download DVD ISO, to unpack it to sda3 partition with all its files, then I changed Grub to boot install Linux from sda3. Installation complains there is no DVD or CD, then I chose to force installation from hard disk and select sda3 partition and select root directory "/". As I was used to from 11.4 this will start installation as it would be started from DVD.
But I think the problem has appeared since 12.1, where I get message: No repository found. (on sda3 / ), so the installation does not start.
I know this is not official way to install openSuse, but it worked before, and it was fast and easy for me, to install from hard disk.
just installed a fresh copy of fedora 12 and getting this error when trying to update the system.
Code:
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main()
Running System>Adminstration>Software Udates, I get the following errors
[code]...
Similarly, if I click on System>Add/Remove Software>Package Collections, I get No groups could be found. A cache refresh should fix this. I don't see how to do a cache refresh. I tried rpm --rebuilddb, which didn't do any good and um clean all which also did no good. I did manage to do the updates with yum updates But I don't want to have to use yum at the command line all the time to do updates.
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main()
I have updated opensuse 11.3 via yast and after reboot I got this errorerror: file not found.error: you need to load kernel first.Press any Key to continue.
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main code....
It mentioned bug report but I don't know where that is. I'll try later.
Today I installed Fedora12 from the DVD, so this is my first contact with all of you. The last years I ran very well with gentoo, but the time for system maintenance got to big the last few times I updated the system, so I decided to change and here am I. The Problem: My system is newly installed from the DVD and I was trying to run the first update, but got the following errormassage by KPackageKit:
Code: Error Type: Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 710, in dispatcher self.dispatch_command(args[0], args[1:])
[Code]...
It occured after informing me about the amount of packages that need to be updated and a message about some dependencies that have to be newly installed. At the moment I'm a bit lost about what to do. Also I realy don't know which system-information would be useful - let me know and I will answer.
I did a clean install of Fedora 12 (AMD64) two days ago and I have been trying to update the packages. But it won't work. I keep getting these errors. I tried both Software Update and command-line utility to update. code...
i downloaded the dvd 11.2 two times ;;;while installation it says no repository found....What is the problem actually...is it a bug or the dwnld is corrupt?
Recently I've installed Open Suse 11.3 along with Ubuntu 9.10 on my PC ( made it a dual-boot OS ). This morning while logged in, in Open Suse 11.3, found out that there were important update for kernel in Yast. So, did the update and then required to restart the PC. In the Grub/boot menu, I chose to log-in to Open Suse 11.3, but after a while it returned with " Error 15, file not found ". Luckily I was able to log-in in Ubuntu 9.10. Assumed that Error 15 is always related to misplaced or wrong configuration of Grub in the partition, I did several searching via Google, and found this possible solution HowTo Boot into openSUSE when it won't Boot from the Grub Code on the Hard Drive . So I tried the " Broken Grub menu: boot to the menu, drop to a console and boot openSUSE direct " method. But rightly after the " find /boot/grub/menu.lst " command as instructed in the solution, it returned with ( hd0,0 ) and ( hd0,4 ). Why there are 2 bootloader in the Grub ? Which bootloader should I choose ? And for convenience, here is my " menu.lst " folder that I get via Terminal in Ubuntu 9.10 :
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:])
Also, how can I upgrade drivers/add drivers for my hardware?
I just installed Fedora and have no idea what Im doing lol.
Alright, first I burned the image I download to a DVD, first DVD didn't work, but second one did, got to the installation process where it probes everything... and at the end it said "Repository Not Found"..So I copied the image to my external hard drive..And went to install from Hard drive...did the director of the image by just putting openSUSE-11.4-DVD... etc...because it already does hd:I had tried F: before, and it didnt work either..And yet again, I get "repository not found"....btw, THIS IS FROM CLEAN INSTALL< I HAD TO ERASE XP and the external is a NTFS hard drive with about 12 gb's free.
trying to install broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop and broadcom-wl-5.100.82.38-7 for my wireless driver. The yast2 keep saying error. Don't know why. I installed opensue11.3 with not problem. Missing packman when i zypper repos command.Do anybody know why.I am very new to linux.I always been window user.
I just installed 11.4 and was adding a new repository which I entered incorrectly. Yast2 complained and did not add it to the repository list. Now when I run Yast2 Software Management.
I get the following error message... "There was an error in the repository initialization. Error refreshing service Packman 11.4 (vaval.com - Islam Resources and Information. This website is for sale! Parse error: repoindex.xml[3] Opening and ending tag mismatch: meta line 2 and noscript"
Since this line does not show up in my repository list I cannot remove it. How do I edit the data file directly and where is it located?
This is more technical. I installed F12 and then I tried to update the system (system - administration - softwareupdate). I receive the following error:
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 710, in dispatcher self.dispatch_command(args[0], args[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 657, in dispatch_command self.update_packages(only_trusted, package_ids) File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 1948, in update_packages signed = self._is_package_repo_signed(pkg) File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 1437, in _is_package_repo_signed repo = self.yumbase.repos.getRepo(pkg.repoid) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/repos.py, line 121, in getRepo 'Error getting repository data for $s, repository not found' $ (repoid)
I got this error An error occurred while initializing the software repository Details: /etc/zypp/repos.d/Packman_repository_(openSUSE_11.2).repo:Line 2 is missing'='sign Try again? what is wrong???
when the YaST2 started there is no any repository and I tried to added new repository I got the error Adding repository Main Repository (OSS) failed
What the heck do I do now? 2 times I've re-installed suse 11.2 and this is what I get every time it tries the first update. I just had a perfectly fine working version of 11.2 that was installed using the network install just 3 days ago but I messed up and couldn't access mySql. Today I blew it away thinking I'd just start over and now it doesn't work. I installed it exactly the same as 2 days ago, whats changed? How do I fix this? I can't access the software repository settings in yast, nothing happens when I try to start it.
Decided I'd like to take a look at OpenSUSE and installed onto my desktop. Already successfully dual booting Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP (which I keep purely for iTunes). When I start the PC the Ubuntu grub menu showing Ubuntu and Windows options has been replaced by a Suse-branded screen showing something that looks (to my untrained eye) like a grub menu. Ubuntu and Suse are listed. If I select Ubuntu I am shown a dos screen with "Error 15: file not found". I am then taken to the old Ubuntu grub screen but trying to boot Ubuntu from that menu returns the same error. I know all the data is still there - I can mount the drive in Suse and view all my documents.
I have searched the forums and tried to follow some of the instructions given in response to similar threads but I'm afraid I didn't get very far. Please assume that I have NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE of Linux! I really know nothing about it and am only just getting to grips with basic terminal commands. Goodness knows why I thought OpenSUSE would be a good idea... I found instructions for running Boot Info Script and these are the results:
After a disk crash I reinstalled openSuSE 11.2 and as always downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for my geforce 8200 graphics.
Unlike all previous cases, this time the driver does not install. The contents of /var/log/nvidia-installer.log are below. The error refers to being unable to to locate version.h
I managed to get following config up and running very nicely with an 11.3 installation. But recently I did a clean install of the OS and hoping to preserve my data in the home HD (2TB) partition I did the following operation which resulted in black screen screen with error 15: file not found.
Config: one SSD root (90GB) and swap (30Gb) second HD for home (2TB)
During the installation I reformatted and mounted the SSD with root and swap as above. I left the home HD (2TB) unformatted and mounted as home.
When I did my first boot up, it worked perfectly - Even Fire Fox booted up with my recovered pages as of my last install! However after installing my multi-media codecs, and security updates, etc. to the fresh install I rebooted the system only to discover that I am unable to get past GRUB!
I don't have to lose my data every time I do a fresh install to new ISO release.
When I do "sudo zypper up" than it gives me error like this:
Code: Retrieving repository 'openSUSE-11.4-Non-Oss' metadata [] File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium 'http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.4/repo/non-oss/' Abort, retry, ignore? [a/r/i/?] (a):
But I can access Index of /distribution/11.4/repo/non-oss from firefox browser.(This is old problem from Opensuse version 11.0 when I first tested it.)
I am running SUSE 10.2 under z/VM 540 and have java working fine. I also have IBM EKM software running fine(if I execuute the script manually).I am trying to start this software automatically following the boot process. I have tried creating a member /etc/init.d/after.local but it does not seem to know where java is./etc/init.d/after.local: line 2: java: command not found"" After I login to any user I can get java -version to work, so my classpath is good.
LINUXEKM:/ # java -version java version "1.5.0" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build pxz64dev-20091106a (SR11 ))
I'm using OpenSUSE11.2, and want to upgrade to OpenSUSE11.3 from internet. But there is not F4(Source) in boot menu. In my computer, F4 is keyboard menu. What shall I do?
I have it running on my system (version 11.1.1) and i have installed only the kernel. i want to install several packages but i can't. yast2 -i bison-devel but i get this error:Error Download failed: File '/content' not found on medium [URL]...
Background: I had a dual boot system, Win XP followed by OpenSuse 11.1 install. I tweaked it a lot to get my wireless card and Nividia card working. Finally got it to a stage where it was working great.
What happened: For some reasons windows XP had some issues and I had to reinstall the OS. Since I have the openSuse install DVD lying around I took the bold step of reinstalling windows knowing that it will blow away the Grub from MBR. However, during the windows setup, the setup said something about setting the Linux partition as inactive (I think so). Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact message.
After finishing the XP install, I booted in with the XP Cd and tried the repair option to repair the MBR. That really messed up the MBR. So much so that booting back with XP boot CD and running fixmbr didn't work. Finally reinstalled windows again.
Now I am not sure what should I do next.
I tried using the superGrubDisk but it gives the following error: Error 15 File not found.
