Feb 25, 2010Have upgraded to KDE 4.4 (from 4.3) and know I'm just wondering how to get system updates as now seems that the Updates Applet doesn't work with factory repos.

Ubuntu Installation :: Install Updates Returns To Main Window Without Installing Updates
Mar 24, 2011For some reason Update Manager is not installing updates as of yesterday.I have it set to check daily and notify if updates are available. It has been working without issues for well over a year now.
Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.
Ubuntu :: Community Repo Updates / Canonical Does Not Provide Updates For Warsow?
Dec 20, 2010I just learned that warsow 0.6 is out, and went to see if it was available in the ubuntu software center yet, as opposed to going and downloading and installing it manually from the warsow website. The ubuntu repo's still have version 0.5, and at the bottom of the page it says:
"Updates: Canonical does not provide updates for Warsow. Some updates may be provided by the Ubuntu community."
So if I wanted to 'update' this item in the repo's for the better of the community what would that entail?
OpenSUSE :: SSH Broken After Updates?
Dec 5, 2008I just did a clean install of OpenSuSE 11.0 and performed all the available updates as well. After rebooting when I try to SSH into my SuSE workstation I get:
PuTTY Fatal Error
Server unexpectedly closed network connection
I don't see anything relevant in /var/log/messages. I've tried rebooting and restarting the SSHD service.

Sep 4, 2010I want to revert my suse to state before last updates. I forget about rule "If there is everything ok, don't touch anything, don't apply any updates". I'm very frustrated if one day I've got something working, next day it stops work. Yesterday I installed some updates and today my desktop effects (KDE 4.4.4) stop works. So my question is - where can I check what updates were installed, and is possible to check version of packages before last update.

Apr 13, 2011The latest version of Gnucash available in openSUSE - and I checked the Gnome factory repo - is 2.4.0. The latest version from Gnucash was announced on Sunday and that was 2.4.5. Admittedly 2.4.1 doesn't seem to have been released and 2.4.2 had a bug in Windows but 2.4.3 was released on 27th Feb. Any reason why openSUSE seems to be lagging behind? Jan 29, 2011There are some updates in the Update Manager list which I do not install. Among them, some drivers for HP Printers (I don't know why this cropped up; I don't even use printers on my laptop), and gcj updates (I use gcc/g++ but not gcj). I unchecked them the first time I saw them on my UM list. However, for every subsequent batch of new updates, UM retains these updates and I need to uncheck them every time. How can I remove them totally from my UM list?

Jan 21, 2010I've installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and I'm pretty happy with over all system, the only issue that I had is with Yast, so far. It gives me alert for security patches but no alert for Software update. When I did "zypper up" as superuser I saw that there are updates available for more that 14 applications but yast didn't show me.
if there is any setting for it or should I file it as a bug.

OpenSUSE :: Which Priority To Set To Get Automatic Updates
Apr 27, 2010I am running on 11.2 and i have added some repositories, like Packman, KDE 4.4 Factory, KDE 4.4 Community.I would like to have this packages automatically updated which seems not to happen. If I look into software management every now and then, I always have to "switch system packages" to get the updates via the the updated applet.So I was wondering, if it could be due to a wrong priority for those repositories? Is a high or a low priority the point where the applet is looking from which repo to update? If not, what is this priority used for?

Manually updating from yaST gives the same error. However, I cannot find the above packge available for installation. i found the following link in the "Yast2-ncurses broken?" thread, but it doesnt automatically install, and I am unsure whether it will work with ver 11.2:

Oct 15, 2010It appears I have gotten a bug when I try to update 11.0 or download even a update foe firefox. When I tried to see if there were any updates it said it could not do it and put up a screen stating the following. File'/repodata/repomd.xml/' not found on medium [URL]. Is there a way to fix this problem? I am a 66year old quy who is trying to learn the ins and outs of Lenox so please keep it simple.

After updating my system to opensuse 11.3 and upgrading kdenlive to 0.7.8 I am unable to open my previous project files without kdenlive crashing.
I am using kdenlive 0.7.8-1.pm.1.1-x86-64 from packman 11.3 and my kdebase library is 4.4.4..1-5 from opensuse.
This is the output from calling kdenlive when it crashes.
Is this an issue with kdenlive or is it an issue with my system configuration. I am using premiere as a backup, but I much prefer kdenlive ...

OpenSUSE :: KPackageKit Not Downloading Updates
Mar 29, 2011My KPackageKit is not downloading any update, it shows updates, I click apply, I authenticate, then it asks me to accept an agreement, after which it returns to an empty KPackageKit (as if there were no updates). If I open it again, there are the possible updates again (naturally, since it didn't download anything).

Feb 25, 2010I've just installed OpenSuse 11.2 64-bit and, on the whole, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm connected to the network and I am posting this from my new system. However I cannot get any software updates or install new packages
I'm behind a (non-authenticated) proxy and, obviously, Firefox has no problem.
If I use Online Updater I just get error messages like this:
PackageKit Error repo-not-available: Failed to download ./repodata/primary.xml.gz from Index of /update/11.2
(but the site is available in Firefox).
I have tried manual updates through Yast (after setting the proxy) and get pretty much the same thing.
So far I have set the proxy in:
Firefox
/etc/sysconfig/proxy
/etc/PackageKit/PackageKit.conf
Computer -> Yast -> Network Services -> Proxy (That has a test function which confirms it is working).
Applications -> System Settings -> Network Settings (This tells me that the network settings are controlled by NetworkManager and can't be modified by Yast).

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.4 Updates Not Working?
Jul 11, 2011I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble getting updates. I ran the software update out of the control center when I first installed 11.4 with the gnome desktop.I ran the yast online update and got what was on there, but now it just gives me error messages, basically it's stating it can't connect to the repositories.

I have 4 GB (2 +2) of DDR 2 RAM installed. I have turned off automatic updating & usually update my machine once a week. But just couple of days ago I had just updated my system and KDE desktop effects stopped working!!
I went to the Application launcher -> Configure Desktop -> Desktop Effects and everything was grayed out!! except for the following message Desktop effects are not available on this system due to the following technical issues:"

May 29, 2010when using opensuse 11.2 i get a popbox saying there are security updates ready to install. if i right-click on each update, there is a "ignore this update" button but i cannot click on it because it is greyed out.

May 21, 2011The repository [URL] is not currently (or no longer) valid. The path still exists up to the "Contrib" level, however, there are no files or subdirectories under it. There are also two siblings at the "Contrib" directory level ("Live" and "Update:") and there are no files under them either other than a single subdirectory called "Test" under "Update:". Does anyone know if the updates that used to be available in this repository have moved and, if so, where to? If the repository is no longer required and there is no replacement, I'll simply remove it. I have also noticed issues for several months where the updater applet will go into an "updating" state and never return from it.
