OpenSUSE :: Are Delta RPM Updates For NON-OSS Repo In 11.2 Discontinued

Feb 15, 2010

The following packages have no delta rpms in 11.2: acroread - Adobe Reader ,java-1_6_0-sun, java-1_6_0-sun-plugin, Opera Web Browser, flash-player A quick check on 11.0 and 11.1 update repos shows that there are delta rpms for latest acrobat reader, sun java and opera updates. Is this a new Novell/openSUSE policy and has there been an anouncement made to inform users.

OpenSUSE :: Is Downloading Only The .delta.rpm Files Enough For Updates To Work

Mar 24, 2011

I currently mirror the updates repository to my computer using rsync. I was wondering if I could save space and bandwidth by only rsyncing the .delta.rpm files? Are there any disadvantages to this or does zypper/YAST handle updates just fine with it?

Fedora :: Software From Updates-testing Repo / Grabbed From Testing Repo When Run Regular Updates?

Jun 22, 2010

I am using Fedora 13 and I have one program (wine) that I need to start grabbing for the updates-testing repo instead of the default repositories in order to get newer versions. I think I can figure out how to add that repository, but I need to know if there are any others I need to disable or any other changes I need to make to my system so that I don't confuse my set up with conflicting updates.

Also, is there anything special I need to do to be sure that only that one program is grabbed from the testing repo when I run regular updates?

Fedora Installation :: Updates After Install And Repo Lists / Saying Repo Not Found?

Mar 26, 2011

i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.

ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83

1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?

2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.

3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.

4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.

Fedora :: Fewer Updates Are Delta Rpms

Jun 3, 2010

I have noticed that the updates to my f12 64bit systems are running longer due to the fact that fewer fedora updates are delta rpms. Why is this. I know that rpmfusion updates and other third party updates are not covered.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 Updates Fail (Repo Not Available)

May 21, 2011

The repository [URL] is not currently (or no longer) valid. The path still exists up to the "Contrib" level, however, there are no files or subdirectories under it. There are also two siblings at the "Contrib" directory level ("Live" and "Update:") and there are no files under them either other than a single subdirectory called "Test" under "Update:". Does anyone know if the updates that used to be available in this repository have moved and, if so, where to? If the repository is no longer required and there is no replacement, I'll simply remove it. I have also noticed issues for several months where the updater applet will go into an "updating" state and never return from it.

OpenSUSE Install :: KR46 And Updates Repo Priorities?

Jun 20, 2011

Currently I have the latest stable KDE packages through two repositories:

Code:
KDE-KR46 | .../repositories/KDE:/Release:/46/openSUSE_11.4/
KDE-Extra-KR46 | .../repositories/KDE:/Extra/KDE_Release_46_openSUSE_11.4/
The priorities are:
KR46: 75
Extra-KR46: 85

Now the issue is about the openSUSE 11.4 Updates repo (priority 99). It shows newer packages version than the KR46 repos for some packages, therefore I'm not sure if I have to push Updates repo up in priorities or just forget its update messages an keep the KDE repos as first source.

OpenSUSE Network :: Error In Repo Initialization While Running Online Updates

Mar 18, 2011

Earlier I have no problems when I install opensuse. After installation the network runs and I can run online updating in yast for the system. But since a few version it doesn't work after installation and I don't know why. I think maybe the errors could happen because I have no
internet connection. Today I install 11.4 and get this message when I want to run online updates in yast.

There is an error in the repository initialization
'repo-update' [URL]
[repo-update URL]
Repository is not cached
I think this problem stars with 11.1 or 11.2.

Ubuntu :: Community Repo Updates / Canonical Does Not Provide Updates For Warsow?

Dec 20, 2010

I just learned that warsow 0.6 is out, and went to see if it was available in the ubuntu software center yet, as opposed to going and downloading and installing it manually from the warsow website. The ubuntu repo's still have version 0.5, and at the bottom of the page it says:

"Updates: Canonical does not provide updates for Warsow. Some updates may be provided by the Ubuntu community."

So if I wanted to 'update' this item in the repo's for the better of the community what would that entail?

The problem is that whenever i use yast it comes up with an error code saying that it can't find the data for the 'problem' repo. Have tried zypper rm but that comes up with a similar error advising that the data is in a format that was not expected. My thinking is to track the file were the yast repo source details are saved, delete this and then just add the repos that i use back.

Ubuntu :: Tr.im Officially Discontinued?

May 17, 2010

Not quite a problem I'm having, but rather just a heads up to the developers doing the Ubuntu distro's.I was a tad baffled why support of bit.ly to shorten URLs wasn't added into "Broadcast", and tr.im caught my eye.I went to their website, http://tr.im, only to learn that they have discontinued the service due to spammers abusing the tr.im service. This brings up two things in my mind:

1) The API for tr.im is still functional, but only until the end of 2010. At some point there will need to be an update to remove tr.im from "Broadcast".

2) Why not replace tr.im with bit.ly? tinyurl.com is popular, but the others I've never heard of. I think bit.ly would be a better, more popular choice than the other services supported.

Ubuntu :: Free Disks Shipit Discontinued

Jan 22, 2010

We are arranging a seminar here to get people acquainted to and inspired to use Linux... And there is no better example as Ubuntu. I have visited the Ubuntu website. Some time back, Canonical would provide multiple Ubuntu disks free of charge on special conditions. But I could not find that option in the Website this time. Perhaps free provision of multiple disks has been discontinued by Canonical. I was thinking of making a request to whom it may concern, by writing a formal application with recommendations and attestations from the moderators of seminar, Deans of University and so...

The problem is I am not sure, in whose name should I write the application and to what address should I send it. Someone with experience or knowledge, We are an honest bunch of enthusiasts with best of Ubuntu spirit in our hearts.

Fedora :: Sound Dropouts In 10 With M-Audio Delta 66

Feb 25, 2009

I've joined this forum because I couldn't find any answer anywhere else by searching the internet. I've installed a F10 64-bit default installation (with updates until 25 Feb. 2009), using nvidia latest proprietary driver, pulseaudio, kde4, proprietary flash 10 beta 64-bit plugin with firefox. When I play music on Myspace the sound dropouts randomly each 3 to 30 seconds when using my M-Audio Delta 66 soundcard.

I'm using the same configuration in F8 without this problem. After login (in F10) and some other times I also have a Kernel failure message: ALSA sound/core/pcm_lib.c:154: BUG: stream = 1, pos = 0xaaa, buffer size = 0xaaa, period size = 0xaaa I don't know if it has got anything to do with the dropouts. There are no messages in /var/log/messages when the dropouts occurs.
