OpenSUSE Hardware :: Getting Mini Display Port Compatibility?

Jan 3, 2010

I have just bought a new Intel Mac Mini, and I wanted to have an openSuSE slice. But I use a MinidisplayPort-VGA adapter to plug my display, and I wanted to know if the Mini Display Port interface was supported. In fact, I have already tried to install FreeBSD but my screen (VGA), more surely the interface (Apple MDP) wasn't recognized.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Videos Won't Display Properly In Netbook Remix (Lucid) On Dell Mini 10v?

I recently got a Canon Powershot SD780 IS. It takes HD video at 780p. It's great, except that the videos won't display properly in Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Dell Mini 10v.I've tried using Gstreamer (Banshee), Xine (Totem-xine), and MPlayer (GNOME MPlayer). These all should have worked, which makes me think something may be wrong either with the files themselves or my computer. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?FYI, when I pull up the Properties dialogue for one of the videos and look in the Audio/Video tab, it says:

OpenSUSE :: Upgrade All Machines From 10.3 And 11.1 To 11.2 Because Of Software Compatibility

Apr 6, 2010

we recently had to upgrade all machines from 10.3 and 11.1 to 11.2 because of software compatibility issues.

Now that 11.2 is up and running I keep having very annoying problems:

.Xauthority
User home directories are mounted with NFS. When trying to use kdesu (e.g. to start YAST) lock files (.Xauthority-*) are created and the program fails. The pnly solution is the remove the files by hand and try again. Sometimes it will work and swomtimes it won't. Interestingly that only happens on the local machine; ssh -X some.other.machine works fine.

OpenSUSE Install :: Compatibility With Datawind Netbook?

Jul 12, 2010

I am looking into buying a cheap netbook and saw the Datawind Ubi-Surfer (e.g., Datawind Ubi-Surfer Netbook | [URL]). It comes with a pre-installed Windows CE which I will be keen to erase as soon as possible.

The spec is low, as can be expected: 128Mb ram (1GB flash), no optical drive (which poses the question of how to install openSUSE), but 3xUSB and ethernet are included.

I do not intend to use it for any processing. It is to run java applications and play music from an external USB hard drive.

Does anyone know whether this little box can cope with openSUSE 11.2 (or 11.3)? and if so, how do I install it without an optical drive?

OpenSUSE Network :: Port Redirection - Multiple IP Addresses - Or Run On Port 80

Apr 7, 2011

In SuSE firewall0. I do have a openSuse 11.4 and multiple IP addresses on eth0 interface

I run (trying to/have to) multiple TOMCAT servers.

I am trying to have each tomcat instance listen to on separate IP address for example:

What i am trying to do is to redirect

a) tomcat 1 -

a) tomcat 2 -

And so on.

I know that it has to be possible.

I do have just eth0/

Is is it possible. Do I have to create "vittual interfaces"? eth0:1, .......... and do redirection ?

"Server" has got just single interface - just 1 ethernet calbe goes to that server. I am planning to have 10-15 tomcat's on that server (I have to unfortunatley) and each has to run on port 80

Is it possible to "grant" permissions to normal users to run app on port 80 - that would solve me lots of problems if impossible to redirect.

I tried to setcap 'cap_net_bind_service=+ep' /path/to/tomcat ...... but no luck

Fedora Hardware :: F14 - No HDMI Port Detected / No Display?

Dec 1, 2010

Acer Aspire 5820 TimelineX, Mobility Radeon 5650, running open source radeon drivers. Laptop has VGA output (haven't tried it yet, will later tonight, I suspect it works) and an HDMI output. Monitor connected to laptop through HDMI causes garbled picture (either a set of lines made of little square blocks or a pink vertical line running down the leftmost edge with white, dashed horizontal lines travelling up the screen from the bottom to the top and repeating). The previous happens at startup, the latter happens if I disconnect the monitor and plug it back in again after logging in.

Running KDE 4. HDMI port is not detected (does not show up in gnome-config-display or in krandr or in xrandr). It does show my laptop's built in screen and my VGA output, but does not list my HDMI output anywhere. HDMI seems to show up in a message in dmesg, but other than that, no.

Included is the output of a few commands. All commands were run with the monitor plugged in to HDMI. 'monitor-probe-using-X radeon' failed with "Unrecognized option: -probeonly". Monitor does not display anything if plugged in on startup (some people got something, then it disappeared when X started). I haven't played with Xorg.conf yet, I'm not sure what to write for HDMI output. I haven't tried the fglrx drivers yet ((*shudders*)). I can't get any info on this problem, other people have had similar issues but they had trouble with getting a particular resolution to work or no sound through HDMI. I don't care about sound, just want a picture. Monitor is an LG Flatron L246WH. I can use VGA if push comes to shove, but I'd really like to get HDMI working.

OpenSUSE :: 11.4 Gnome 2.3 Display - CRTC Error That The Display Is Over The Maximum - 1920x1920

Apr 16, 2011

I have a fresh install of OpenSUSE 11.4 64bit and I have installed the AMD Display drivers for my Radeon HD 5970. Everything seems to be working quite well. I have a multiple monitor setup (1280x1024 monitor and a 1920x1080 monitor).

I have my primary display set to 1920x1080, however when I try to enable the second display, I get a CRTC error that the display is over the maximum (1920x1920). If I enable both monitors at lower resolutions, there is no problem.

I have done a fair bit of reading and have been unable to determine where this maximum is set, or how to change it. I'd like to be able to run both monitors at their native resolutions.

OpenSUSE Install :: HP Mini 110 Hangs On Boot

Mar 10, 2010

Here's my problem:

New HP Mini 110. Atom N270. 2Gb RAM. 160Gb HDD

I've installed OpenSUSE 11.2 Gnome Live from a USB stick. The installation worked well, but after the first reboot, the graphical loader just hangs with the progress bar having moved only a couple of pixels. Only way to recover is to power-off - CTRL+ALT+DEL does nothing.

When I press 'Esc' on boot, to display the boot messages, I see the boot hangs at the following point:

"Loading drivers, configuring devices:"

trying again, this time adding the boot option "acpi=off" as recommended in another thread, gets me a little further, but the boot now fails at the following point:

"Set System Time to the current Hardware Clock"

Finally, booting in Failsafe mode gets all the way to a text mode login, but this is hardly a long-term work-around.

Has anyone got openSUSE 11.2 working on an HP Mini 110, or at least seen and solved this problem on another system? I can confirm openSUSE 11.2 works fine on my old Acer Aspire One A150, so I assume this is a specific issue on the HP.

OpenSUSE Network :: Can't Get WLAN Up On Dell Mini 10v?

Jul 25, 2010

I can't get WLAN up on my Dell Mini 10v (BCM 4312)/openSUSE 11.3/LXDE. And yes, I have thoroughly read iwfingers's 'Getting your Wireless to Work'. After installing openSUSE 11.3 ifconfig can see eth0, l0 and wlan0. No WLAN running. dsmesq|grep firmware prompts me to '/usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware"

After having done that and reboot ifconfig can only see eth0 and l0. Installing broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-7.pm.16.4.i586.rpm broadcom-wl-kmp-default-5.60.48.36_k2.6.34.0_12-7.pm.16.4.i586.rpm (current ones from Packman) does, Shall I try to install the drivers without installing the firmware first?

Why does broadcom-wl-kmp-default-5.60.48.36_k2.6.34.0_12-7.pm.16.4.i586.rpm install a new default kernel? Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 had no problems with WLAN.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: SUSE Linux On An HP Mini Netbook?

Has anybody done this? I've searched but haven't turned up any threads about this. I'm a newbie so maybe I need to be pointed?Maybe there is a more suitable Linux distribution but I only know SUSE and am ok with it.My HP is a Mini 210-1000 if that is relevant.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: WLAN On Dell Mini 10 (Inspiron 1012)?

Sep 26, 2010

I just want to report that I managed to get WLAN running on my Dell Mini 10 (Inspiron 1012) with OpenSuse 11.3 KDE.
This one contains a Broadcom 4312 WLAN card

Code:

lspci -vnn|grep Broadcom
07:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4315] (rev 01)
0b:00.0 Multimedia controller [0480]: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:1615]
Subsystem: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:1615]

I just installed the broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop packages from the packman repository. Then there is a new entry in the bootmanager menu. Using that one, WLAN works fine.By the way: Can somebody explain me the difference between the broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop, broadcom-wl-kmp-default, broadcom-wl-kmp-pae, broadcom-wl-kmp-xen packages? I did not find any documentation about that.

I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
