View 9 RepliesI was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
i use opensuse 11.2 with kde 4.3 i have
snd-ens1371 loaded
i clicked on the alsa mixer i click on ac97 2ch-4ch copy but that don't work, i don't have sound with my 4 speaker
I am trying to configure a friend's HP laptop with OS11.2 After reading several forums and so on I figured out that sound must be configured with the option module=hp-dv5 or module=hp-m4. The laptop is a pavilion dv5, and the sound driver is hda-intel.
So far so good, all done via yast2, it restarts the sound server, can play a test sound, everything works. But then, if I restart the computer, I do not have any sound at all. Under yast the added parameters are still there, but it does not work. trying to run rcalsasound restart does not solve the problem either.
I can not get my sound to work I have a openSUSE 11.3 on an Asrock. it is a driwer for 5.1 CH HD Audio (via vt1705 audio codec) is missing or not functioning.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i tried to watch a videos video today, i noticed that i suddenly didn't have sound anymore just yesterday, it still worked fine. changing the video volume didn't do anything, so i looked at the mixer icon in the taskbar - and noticed to my surprise that it was suddenly set to mute, without me ever having touched it!
i set it back to full volume, but still nothing. i then tried to play ordinary videos in nmy video layer, but also there - no sound! so it's not limited to flash videos. the sound test in yast doesn't play any sound, either, it produced just a very short popping sound, that's all. i tried turning off pulse audio there, but that didn't change anything, so i turned it on again (i use pulse audio for sound).
next, i tried the kde control panel, but got no test sound either, just again the very short popping sound on htting the test button and nothing else. i've even tried switching the preference from xine (which i normally use) to gstreamer, but that didn't change anything either. then i did a reboot and tried things again, but no change. finally, i checked my headphones. they were plugged in properly, and plugging them out and back in again didn't do anything either.
so i'm out of ideas what i could still try. sound hardware is realtek hd onboard sound, which is identified as "hda ati sb alc889a analog". kde is 4.4 rc3, which i've been using already since over a week without problems, so i doubt that's the problem.
I have a Satelite M115. I cannot get my sound to work. I was told that to get it to work, I would need to turn acpi=off, but I'm the biggest noob Linux could possibly have. I do not know how to do anything.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm working with openSuse 11.3 and my audio card is an ati hd 3650 (RV365).
I use HDMI for audio and video output and the audio works fine with amarok, banshee, kaffeine and system sound events, but in browsers like Firefox or Opera, the flash players don't emmit sound, only video.
I tried reinstalling flashplayer, alsa and pulse but nothing happen....
Previously i was working with Ubuntu 10.4 and everithing worked fine, but I prefer much more Suse.
1 i have tried to get my sound output working in totem kaffiene and banshee to no avail. reading through several blogs posts and the such of likes has gotten me to ttry and set pulse alsa and oss so im even more confused. i can get a sound test to play but cannot get music to work??
2 i would really like to use audacity to record but it keeps hanging after about three seconds. i purchased a new acer aspire 5532 and deleted windows 7 to encounter
I have an issue where my laptop speakers work just fine, but when I plug in headphones, I get no noise. I'm using openSUSE 11.4.I found others with the same issue, but this guy's solution looks like he might be using some different version and his solution doesn't work (can't find the file he edited).
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy sound was working fine except I couldn't get system sounds (notifications) to work. So I decided to install pulseaudio to see if it would fix it. Now I get system sounds and my other sounds, but now in most things (such as firefox and warcraft 3) the sound is choppy. I've tried SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE and a couple other things I've googled but it's not working for me. I'd like to be able to fix it or at least go back to the way it was.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI borked my perfectly good 11.2 install, while replacing a failing hard drive. I reinstalled, and now my sound doesn't work - or not quite. I get the left front channel, nothing else. Battle Duel crashes due to sound errors - or I probably wouldn't care.

I have a Gigabyte mainbord with an Intel IHC9 sound chip. When I configure it via YAST the test-sound plays fine, and when I issue:
sudo speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
some friendly voice starts speaking as well.
But:
speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
doesn't bring about anything sound-like.
My settings are stored at:

Since I was change my mainboard and sound chip of course kmix doesn't work, I can change the volume but it doesn't effect on output volume it look like kmix have 3 level, Mute, Low and high.
View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently I have started using my netbook (Acer Aspire one D250) alot more due to travelling and I noticed that the mic didn't work. Headed to the Ubuntu forums and saw a thread about installing ALSA. So I did and now I have no sound. From what I can tell ubuntu is no longer picking up my sound devices but I'm sure. Hence why I am here. I need to get my sound working again (obviously) and then in turn get my mic working for mumble and other VOIP programs.

I have successfully installed the wireless drivers and graphics card and have them both up and running. But I'm having trouble with the sound card. I am using a USB headset and a logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 with Ubuntu 10.04
1. When I change the sound to internal sound the webcam works in Skype but I have not sound.
2. When I change the sound to the USB headset (sound output) the webcam does not work in Skype.
In ubuntu 10.04 my X-fi Fatal1ty Titanium sound card worked for my speakers but I had to use onboard sound for the mic. When I installed 10.10 the sound card no longer works at all so I have to run the speakers through the onboard sound.
The second problem I have is that Skype will not pick up my microphone all other programs seem to be able to record from the microphone just fine but skype does not. Ive tried selecting all the different input device options from the skype settings but none of them seem to work.
EDIT: Sound doesn't work at all in wine.
EDIT2: The X-fi card no longer shows up in the sound control panel.
After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing, zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
When I installed my 64 bit system of Ubuntu 10.04 the sound worked very well and I were very happy. The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. And when I type "pulseaudio" in the terminal it gives me this:

I've got an urgent problem! I had some viruses as my program told me and in the end I had to restart my eee pc!Problem is now after it starts and you click on the log me in icon for the netbook it makes the nice hello sound, takes some time and then does the shut down (goodbye) sound. So basically the netbook booted already right? But I cant log myself in! What can I do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Mangler and one of its requirements was pulse-audio. I installed pulse-audio everything worked great except i couldn't get sound out of wow if i started mangler first and vice-versa. I then found a version of Mangler that worked with alsa. So i uninstalled mangler and pulse-audio, installed mangler-alsa. Everything works great now. The problem is when i uninstalled Pulse-audio i lost all my sliders in Yast > Hardware > Sound > other > volume. The only thing that shows up is master volume > Test. My sound works great just can't adjust anything. How do i get my sliders back. I would like some advice before i screw something up. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have suse 11.4 installed and I wish to replace the on-board sound chip with an add-on sound card. The following are available at my local shop but they cannot advise whether any will work on Linux Suse 11.4.
Anyone know which of these cards will work on Suse 11.4?
Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Asus Xonar DS
I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

Also I am totally confused by the mixer, it has so many knobs that I am totally lost!

I encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.
I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.
System:
OpenSuse 11.2 (it is a pretty fresh install)
OpenSoundSystem 4.2
KDE 4.4 (updated from factory repos)
I have configured my sound drivers many times. After doing this i am able to listen a sound. But after booting there is necessary to configure them again. So is there a any way for permanent configuration.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have decided to move my laptop over to openSUSE after a terrible experience with Vista. I have some experience with Ubuntu, but I'm a brand new suse user. I installed 11.3 but haven't been able to get any sound out of it. The laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ45-307tx (more specs at link below) [URL] The first thing I tried was I updating the alsa firmware using the konsole command "zypper install alsa-firmware". The firmware updated fine, but still no sound. The next thing I tried was editing a file based on the advice found at the link below. [URL] This didn't work either, but I wasn't too optimistic to begin with due the differences between our systems.
