OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Sound Too Silent On Asrock N68C-S UCC Motherboard?
May 7, 2011I tried to listen mp3 on in, but it was too silent (of course, I tried to put speakers to be louder).. I switched to winXP (as a second OS) on this computer, and sound volume is ok, so I suppose it's problem in OpenSuse... I have ASROCK N68C-S UCC motherboard with nForce 630a sound chip on it.

Jan 1, 2010Trying to put up my HTPC with Ubuntu 9.10 but I cant get any sound to work. Im using a HDMI cable between the pc and TV. Computer is an Asrock ION HT/BD 330. Also running a 64 bit version of Ubuntu. I have upgraded all I know or think I know what to do but still with no luck. To start of heres my multimedia.

Ubuntu :: Asrock Ion Built In IR Wont Work With The Drivers?
Jun 15, 2010Ever since newer karmic kernels 2.6.31-21 and 2.6.31-22 the Asrock ion built in IR wont work with the drivers Asrock provides even though they have since then provided drivers for 10.04, which still doesnt fix the issues with the remote (just doesnt work)
THE PROBLEM
The solution is of course to downgrade kernel to 2.6.31-20 #58 which remote works fine and newer script version introduces a fix to this. However looking at the available packages seems that most of the kernel 2.6.31-20 is no longer available to re-install.
e.g. linux-headers linux-image-wireless-backports etc etc were able to get a fairly working 2.6.31-20 but most of that kernel version ike I said s no longer available.
So question is. Can anyone shed light where to find the missing 2.6.31-20 #58 stuff so we have access to a full downgrade? Any information taht could help get a full downgrade to 2.6.31-20 #58.

Aug 22, 2010My sound keeps going on and off, with some variation but generally about twice a second. I can watch the speaker icon in the system tray with a red x appearing and going away. When I play anything the sound is very broken. I'm running on an ASRock M3A770DE uploaded my ALSA information: [URL]. I've tried a number of things to attempt to correct the problem, but nothing I've tried makes any difference.
This MB does have two separate sound devices, I think. This shows up in YAST/Hardware/Sound with one entry as "ATI Technologies Inc." and the other as "SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)". I've tried disabling each one separately, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. The description of the board says it has "7.1 CH Windows Vista, Premium Level HD Audio (VIA VT1708S Audio Codec)". I don't run Windows except in VMs, so I don't know what happens with this in Windows.
Ubuntu :: Sound: Mic Doesn't Work - Audio Input Level Graphically Shown In Sound Preferences Shows No Fluctuations In Sound
Aug 3, 2010I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.

Mar 24, 2010I am trying to configure a friend's HP laptop with OS11.2 After reading several forums and so on I figured out that sound must be configured with the option module=hp-dv5 or module=hp-m4. The laptop is a pavilion dv5, and the sound driver is hda-intel.
So far so good, all done via yast2, it restarts the sound server, can play a test sound, everything works. But then, if I restart the computer, I do not have any sound at all. Under yast the added parameters are still there, but it does not work. trying to run rcalsasound restart does not solve the problem either.
OpenSUSE Hardware :: Sound Suddenly Doesn't Work?
Feb 10, 2010when i tried to watch a videos video today, i noticed that i suddenly didn't have sound anymore just yesterday, it still worked fine. changing the video volume didn't do anything, so i looked at the mixer icon in the taskbar - and noticed to my surprise that it was suddenly set to mute, without me ever having touched it!
i set it back to full volume, but still nothing. i then tried to play ordinary videos in nmy video layer, but also there - no sound! so it's not limited to flash videos. the sound test in yast doesn't play any sound, either, it produced just a very short popping sound, that's all. i tried turning off pulse audio there, but that didn't change anything, so i turned it on again (i use pulse audio for sound).
next, i tried the kde control panel, but got no test sound either, just again the very short popping sound on htting the test button and nothing else. i've even tried switching the preference from xine (which i normally use) to gstreamer, but that didn't change anything either. then i did a reboot and tried things again, but no change. finally, i checked my headphones. they were plugged in properly, and plugging them out and back in again didn't do anything either.
so i'm out of ideas what i could still try. sound hardware is realtek hd onboard sound, which is identified as "hda ati sb alc889a analog". kde is 4.4 rc3, which i've been using already since over a week without problems, so i doubt that's the problem.

I use HDMI for audio and video output and the audio works fine with amarok, banshee, kaffeine and system sound events, but in browsers like Firefox or Opera, the flash players don't emmit sound, only video.
I tried reinstalling flashplayer, alsa and pulse but nothing happen....
Previously i was working with Ubuntu 10.4 and everithing worked fine, but I prefer much more Suse.

some friendly voice starts speaking as well.

Mar 5, 2011Recently I have started using my netbook (Acer Aspire one D250) alot more due to travelling and I noticed that the mic didn't work. Headed to the Ubuntu forums and saw a thread about installing ALSA. So I did and now I have no sound. From what I can tell ubuntu is no longer picking up my sound devices but I'm sure. Hence why I am here. I need to get my sound working again (obviously) and then in turn get my mic working for mumble and other VOIP programs.

Sep 26, 2010In ubuntu 10.04 my X-fi Fatal1ty Titanium sound card worked for my speakers but I had to use onboard sound for the mic. When I installed 10.10 the sound card no longer works at all so I have to run the speakers through the onboard sound.
The second problem I have is that Skype will not pick up my microphone all other programs seem to be able to record from the microphone just fine but skype does not. Ive tried selecting all the different input device options from the skype settings but none of them seem to work.
EDIT: Sound doesn't work at all in wine.
EDIT2: The X-fi card no longer shows up in the sound control panel.
Fedora Installation :: ASRock ION 330 And F10 (Run Level 5)
Jul 27, 2009I have recently purchased an asrock ion 330. I have done a fresh install of fedora 10. All initially appears fine. When I modify etc/inittab to run level 5 I start getting problems. When fedora boots tty1 never gets to the login prompt. It stops with 'fuse init (api version 7.9). I don't get the desired graphical login. If I reset to run level 3 it boots fine To the text console and I can login and startx with no problems.

Apr 22, 2010I'm setting up another xbmc machine. This one is a asrock 330 machine. My other machine is running ubuntu 8.10. I have a script that I use on my other machine, so that when I hit a button on my remote it will kill xbmc if its running and start xbmc if it is not. This script works without any problems on my other pc. When i try and run in from the ssh terminal on the asrock I receive the following log statements.
I should add, i installed ubuntu 9.10 on the asrock. I then installed xbmc using the ppa repositories. So i guess this is the full blown gdm installation with xbmc on top of that. The final goal is to then configure irexec to use this script to start and stop this application on the main gdm desktop.
I'm a beginner to linux configuration and just get by from reading peoples tutorials on how to setup their machines.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Sound With New Sound Card - Web Browser Is Unable To Play Any Sound
Mar 24, 2010After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.

Nov 18, 2010i cant get ubuntu to install on this board live usb ,desktop, alternate or cd alternate nothing i can get to the screen where you choose options i can pick the things i want and hit enter then get a non blinking cursor the board is pretty new so i can t seem to find anything about it Google gives me a few people running Linux on it if i use the alternate i get to the detecting hardware section and it locks up.
i installed the wubi but that wont work either there is a short 5 second splash screen the te1lls you to push esc for options ive tried all the options and it wont boot either i have even tried the newest fedora it locks up just about the same place. i wonder if its a bios setting or some acpi stuff but i dont know this board even offers usb3 and sata 3 so is linux just lagging behind a bit? i tried emailing asrock and got a bad English response saying they offer no linux support

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Skype - Pulseaudio - Sound Output Or Input Does Not Work At All Doesn't Work
Sep 11, 2010When I installed my 64 bit system of Ubuntu 10.04 the sound worked very well and I were very happy. The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. And when I type "pulseaudio" in the terminal it gives me this:
