Ubuntu :: Apache Blank HTTPD Conf And Reverse Proxy For Webcam

Jul 23, 2010

I've been trying to figure out how to set up my Apache 2 running on Ubuntu 9.10 to provide a reverse proxy so I can see my wifi network camera monitoring my dogs and still have access to my family website. First, I followed the suggestions from this thread on Ubuntu forums: [URL]. I set up a similar rule set at the end of my /etc/apache2/sites-available/default, restarted apache -- from which I got a response saying that Apache2 could not determine the server name -- and then tried logging into my server through its ip address. When I tried http://192.168.2.80/dogCam, I just got a 404 error. Here's what I added: (I also tried my domain name, but it also didn't work.)

Code:
<VirtualHost 192.168.2.80:80>
ProxyPass /dogCam/ http://192.168.2.160/
ProxyPassReverse /dogCam/ http://192.168.2.160/
</VirtualHost>

When I looked at many other threads, I get recommendations to have my setup in httpd.conf. But, in both this server and a freshly installed Ubuntu laptop, my httpd.conf file is empty! I tried copying and pasting the recommended contents of the following thread, with the example proxy paths replaced with the ones I needed: [URL]. Straight-forward tutorials don't seem to apply, as Ubuntu has a blank httpd.conf file. I figured out that Ubuntu seems to load its modules by simply adding soft-links to the modules of interest from modules-enabled to modules-available. But, after a full day of trying to figure out what looks to be fairly simple and well-documented, I am at a loss for setting up this reverse proxy or even figuring out where to set ServerName to define my domain name to Apache2 in Ubuntu.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Enable Built-in Webcam On Asus 1005pe On 9.10?

I also posted this as a question in launchpad, but wasn't sure if this might be a better place. Hardware :: Getting The Built-in Webcam To Work On An Asus X83Vb-X2 With Ubuntu 9.04?

Jun 29, 2009

I'm having trouble with the webcam on my laptop. This is a full-sized laptop, not one of the Eee models.I'm not entirely sure what the model or chipset of the webcam is, as there doesn't seem to be much documentation available (as far as I know, this is Asus' first foray into the laptop market in the US).

I previously had the camera working just fine in Windows Vista, so I know the hardware is just fine. I have tried several programs to get the device working, and some (Cheese, for example) are able to get the green light next to the camera to turn on. I've tried running a number of programs as both the normal user and as root, but I don't seem to be able to get the camera to output video. I didn't see any drivers on the Asus site. Is anyone able to lend a hand with this? I'm moving out of the country in a month, and would really love to be able to keep in touch with my family and friends over skype or something similar.

EDIT: In programs like Cheese, the webcam seems to be detected as "USB2.0 UVC PC Camera (/dev/video0)". I imagine it's a good sign that video0 is available.

OpenSUSE :: Text Sporadically Appears In Reverse Order / When Typing In Kile

Apr 6, 2011

I'm curious as to whether anyone else has experienced this, and has an explanation. I'm running Kile 2.0.85 under openSUSE 11.3 32-bit on a Lenovo X61. Twice in the past couple of days I've had the bizarre experience that, upon a sudden burst of typing my text has appeared in Kile in reverse order.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Asus_atk0110 Not Working On Asus P7P55D PRO

Jan 23, 2010

i have new computer with an asus P7P55D Pro board.

My fan sensors does not work with this board. And i found that there are bugs in the asus_atk0110.c file. I found also a thread about this topic under

asus_atk0110 not working on Asus P7P55D PRO - linux.kernel

This is a kernel source. I don't know, if this patch can be used for my current kernel:

Does anyone know, where i can found this patched file for my kernel or when this bug will be fixed?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Suse 11.2, Asus Xonar D1, No Sound?

Mar 20, 2010

I recently bought a decent sound card, the Asus xonar D1. Prior to purchase, I checked the Alsa matrix to make sure that it is supported. I couldn't get it to work after putting it in, so I did a clean install of Suse 11.2. Initially, it didn't work, but after I installed alsa-firmware, it worked. However, flash videos had no sound. I remembered something about this when I fist installed 11.2 with my older card. I looked it up and figured out that it was the PCM issue. However, when I opened kmix, there ws no PCM mixer. I even looked through the "hidden" mixers, making them all visible and maxing each out all without success.

Next, I started the "SDB:AudioTroubleshooting" process. When I got to step 2, I deleted the configurations of the xonar card configuration in Yast. I rebooted and lost all sound. I then started over with the "SDB:AudioTroubleshooting" and could not get anything, though I have not gone through updating Alsa, as I hope it is not necessary.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Mouse Arrow Skips Around On Asus U31F

I've just bought an Asus U31f and installed openSUSE 11.4 64bit on it.

There are no problems with the mouse and mousepad at first when I boot up, but after a while it starts to skip and jump around, and will hardly move vertical at all (allthough it is very eager to move sideways).

The touchpad also becomes overly sensitiv, as I can move the arrow from side to side while holding my finger 0,5 cm above the touchpad, as seen here: [URL]

The weird things is that it can work fine for several hours, and the suddenly turn evil.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Building A New GNU Boxen With ASUS P6X58D Premium Motherboard?

Jul 6, 2010

I'm starting to spec out a new GNU/Linux boxen. I'm considering the ASUS P6X58D Premium motherboard. Has anyone had any experience with this board in terms of compatibility with openSUSE 11.2/11.3? I'm mainly concerned about:

on-board sound: Realtek ALC889
ethernet: Marvell 88E8056
new interfaces: SATA3, USB3.0

being able to use: AHCI (which I had to turn off on a netbook, Acer Aspire 1410, for hard drive stability), 64-bit kernel I'm planning to use an i7-930 or i7-950 (should the price drop in August as rumored) with 6 GB DDR3 1333 RAM (not planning to overclock, as yet). The graphics card will probably be an NVidia GT240 or so (budgeting about $100 for the graphics card).

Also, I'm hoping to move some old IDE drives over using IDE->SATA 1 bridge cards. Any advice on this? Or should I just get a new SATA 3 drive? For the optical drives (DVD RW/CD RW), I'd like to use bridge cards since there's no benefit for the higher speed SATA interface, or is there?

P.S. For the naive question: As I haven't dealt with 64-bit installs before... I would need the 64-bit kernel for full access to all the extra address space, correct? After that, I can still run 32-bit apps, with a slight speed penalty?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Asus EeePC 1015PEM - Audio From The Built-in Speakers

Jan 28, 2011

New eeePC 1015PEM netbook, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD. Came with Win 7 Starter; I retained this and installed openSUSE 11.3 alongside. Everything works well in Win 7 Most things also work well in oS 11.3, but there is a knotty problem with audio from the built-in speakers. Headphones are OK, but the speakers don't work reliably. Others have reported this on similar machines, and a number of "fixes" have been proposed in a wide range of forums, but so far I haven't found any that work.

I've actually installed oS 11.3 twice. After the first install I had no speaker sound at all, but after a day or two fiddling around it started to work of its own accord for no reason I could point to. For unrelated reasons (a silly mistake by me in Win 7) I then had to re-install oS 11.3 from scratch. This time the speaker sound worked after install, but then it dropped out again a couple of days later. Headphone audio has remained OK throughout.

I'm aware of and have applied the acpi_osi=Linux kernel parameter to enable the Fn keys on the machine (including sound volume and mute/unmute), so it's not that. I've combed the forums and Google extensively for other suggestions, and have tried them - including installing alsamixergui. I've also installed a properly matched ALSA KMP which changed some of the alsamixer controls but didn't cure the problem. Since it all works very well in Win7 and works sometimes in oS 11.3, I conclude that the problem is not with hardware but is something in software.
