OpenSUSE Hardware :: Head Speakers - Sound Redirection

Mar 29, 2010

I am using the acer aspire 7736ZG and I have a weird problem. Everytime I connect some external headspeakers (headset?) on my laptop the built in speakers are not muted. My laptop is a dual boot and this problem does not exist on Windows 7, which probably means that this is not some strange hardware problem. there speakers are plugged into a black "hole" as there is not green one available.

Actually there are 3 colored "holes" for the jacks to be plugged in. A blue one (do not have a clue what might be plugged in there). A pink one which is for microphone and a black one which works fine in Windows 7 when i plug in my headset. So what I should try to check to fix this weird problem?

Ubuntu :: Speakers Play When Heaadphones Plugged In - Sound Plays Out Of Speakers

Jun 17, 2011

I have Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop. When I plug my headphones, they sometimes work, they sometimes don't, but that's not the main problem. When they do work, sound also plays out of the speakers. The only solutions I was able to find were for earlier versions, which don't work for 11.04.

OpenSUSE :: No Sound From Speakers / Get That?

Jan 31, 2010

I'm running openSUSE 11.1, KDE 3.5.10. I used to get system sounds (like startup etc) and I could get sounds from Amarok when I played .mp3 files.

However, yesterday my Amarok crashed and I could not get any sound from Amarok (I was using gstreamer/auaup engine, didn't have any other engine). But I could still hear the system sounds like shutdown, startup etc.

So I was playing around with KMix and alsamixer settings. I don't have root access on the computer so I can't change any configuration files or anything. Just changed the volume controls etc. But now I can't get any system sounds.

I ran speaker-test and no sound there either. All my mixer volume controls are on max but I can't remember exactly what I changed on KMix. I'm thinking I messed up the switches some how.

OpenSUSE :: Get No Sound Through The Computer Speakers?

May 12, 2010

I have had sound working for months but recently I plugged in a USB headset and to get it to work, I had to open pulse audio and change to it. I later unplugged it, turned off the computer and have now restarted it (without the headset) and now I get no sound through the computer speakers! I used the Pulse Audio manager that shows up in the taskbar when you select it from the Kickoff Launcher. But now it's showing "Null Audio" and under "Sound" it shows "Audio Devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG" Under System Settings -> Multimedia, it lists Pulse Audio Sound Server.Under PulseAudio Manager ->Devices tab it has Null Output as the only device.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Usb Speakers - Redirect Sound

May 25, 2010

I would like to ask you the following: Is it possible when I plug in my usb speakers to have the sound redirected directly to them (as it happens also in windows?)

I have some USb external speakers that work fine with Linux. I have configured them with priority 1 and I also have configured my soundcard with priority 2.

So when the speakers are plugged in in advance (Before os boots) I can only listen music through my usb speakers.

When my usb speakers are unplugged and system reboots afterwards I could only listen music from the internal speakers (soundcard).

But things dont work dynamically if I just plug my usb speakers while music is playing the sound is not getting redirected. So I have to restart alsasound which is a little bit annoying.

OpenSUSE Install :: Getting No Sound From Speakers / Sort It?

Oct 4, 2010

I am a complete newbie who recently installed openSUSE 11.3 (64-bit). My desktop is KDE. Motherboard is MSI X58 Eclipse. Audio card (came with MB) is Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme H/W.

As the title of my message indicates, there's no sound coming out from the speakers. I know that both speakers and sound card work fine because I just tested them under Windows XP.

I launched YaST, chose the Sound icon, clicked on Add, selected Creative Labs. The sound card model that comes close to the one I have should be X-Fi. So I chose that, selected Quick Automatic Setup and I get the following error message:
An error occurred during the installation of X-Fi. The kernel module snd-ctxfi for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.

I then went to Open Source - SoundCard Support (Creative Labs' Open Source - SoundCard Support) but I did not download any drivers because of the following warnings:
* THIS IS AN UNSUPPORTED BETA DRIVER. There is no technical support for this driver.
* This beta driver has only been tested on the following 32-bit / 64-bit Linux distributions: Ubuntu 7.10, openSUSE 10.3 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1 (64-bit only).

I followed

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Sound Is Not Coming From Laptop Speakers And Headphones

Apr 24, 2010

I might have a different problems as I have a newer laptop, a HP dv6-2170us with intel i5 cpu. I had no wireless with the 2.6.31 kernel so I upgraded to the 2.6.34 and had to manually compile my wireless driver. Everything works great now except the sound issue. I thought it use to work out the box with the old kernel, but then again I might be wrong. I knwo it works in the "other os" dual booting and all. Its a not a huge issue, but hopeing I could resolve it. Here is some of the info from reading some of the other posts. the model=dell-vostro I just tried to see if that works, which is doesnt, so thats why thats in my sound.conf file.

[Code].....

Have I missed anything? I have tried the fix here: Audio coming from both headphone and laptop speakers - Page 3 - openSUSE Forums page 3 about adding a repo and upgrading, but that upgrade wants me to revert back to the older kernel in which case I dont have wireless support or acpi working proporly, so thats not a doable thing for me.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 5.1 Surround Sound Bass Redirection?

Mar 5, 2010

When I decode an audio clip which contain 5.1 streams (the encoding doesn't matter - or does it?) I cannot find an option which allows redirection of the lower frequencies (from front, back and center channels) to the sub woofer (LFE channel). I understand that this perfectly normal and this is how 5.1 supposed to work. My problem is that my speakers are not full range, so they cannot reproduce the bass in the streams. What I want to know is if there is a way to do something like this: [URL]

Which is described as: Bass redir - Bass redirection. Route basses from all channels to subwoofer. Works only if it is subwoofer at output speakers. Highly recommended for systems with separate subwoofer. Basses are routed before mixing so basses are shown at LFE input level (although 'real' LFE may be absent).

I'm aware of the enable-lfe-remixing = yes option. It works fine for stereo, but not for 5.1

I use ubuntu 9.10 and my pulseaudio version is 0.9.19. The player I use most is SMPlayer (version 0.6.8 (SVN r3213)) and AC3-liba52 for AC3 decoding. My system is up to date.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Sound Card - Enable A "fill Speakers" Option?

Feb 21, 2011

is there any way i can make my sound card go 5.1 and enable a "fill speakers" option? I have an onboard via hd 1705 sound codec as it's listed in my mainboard manual. The sound card it's self appears in the system as aa nvidia hda, and so it's listed in the manual. So my question is, shouldn't it be a via since it has a via hd chip? Anyway, apparently my kmix volume control has very vew options for it. I also have a via tremor pci sound card, but it's not hd. That one has all the options available in the kmix, but the via hd doesn't. I'd prefer using the via hd since it's "high definition". Is there any way i can enable the 5.1 on it?
