OpenSUSE Hardware :: Can't Call Up Graphics Card Settings In Yast After 11.3 Upgrade

Dec 7, 2010

I've just upgraded from 11.1 to 11.3. When I go into Yast and try to invoke the Graphics Card and Monitor settings, nothing happens - I get the spinning circles for a few seconds and nothing after that. How can I get at those settings, and why doesn't Yast let me do that?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Install Graphics Card - Change The Settings Of And Monitor?

Aug 22, 2010

the solution of my monitor is much to small. So I tried to find out, where I can change the settings of my graphic card and monitor. Unfortunately opensuse only gives me the possibility to change it up to 600x800, which is by far too small. So I thought maybe I need to install a driver... so... there I am ... having question marks around my head and wondering how to install a graphics card driver on my opensuse 11.3.???
And where to find the right ones?

My graphic card is a Matrox Mystique (no 220 or anything else!!). I checked the website of Matrix to find my drivers, but it tells me that there is no driver planned for linux. Matrox Graphics - Support - Latest Matrox drivers for legacy products But I guess I am not the only person in the world who uses this graphic card on linux, so there must be a way to make it work!!

OpenSUSE Install :: Saving System Settings (yast Settings)

Apr 1, 2011

Is there a way I can save system settings and have yast revert to a config file in case I ever need to reinstall the system again? I hate having to configure the firewall, runlevels, samba shares, samba workgroup, apparmor, and all the other junk after every install. It's not like I install often, but should suse 11.5 or 12 roll out, I'd like it to be a snappy upgrade.

But in ubuntu in the x server settings only one of the cards shows up. I was wondering if this is a 32 bit issue as in the past running 64 bit they have both shown up fine.

OpenSUSE :: PC Speed Under 11.4 - Radeon Graphics Drivers From YaST

Jul 28, 2011

I've recently managed to install 11.4 with both Gnome 2.32 and KDE 4.6, moving from 11.3. However, there seems to be a significant speed degradation in terms of opening applications, switching windows, clicking on links etc. I have installed the Radeon graphics drivers from YaST, without much success. IMHO, Gnome seems slightly faster than KDE; however, it's still not great.

My machine worked well with 11.3 and seemed to be going pretty well; however, I wanted new and shiny, so. The PC has an AMD dual-core chip (can't remember the exact spec). Alternatively, is there good benchmarking software I could try to see if I can get an idea of my real speed?

Networking :: OpenSuSE / Yast / Network Settings: Gateway Eth0 Through Wlan1?

Dec 16, 2010

I have a laptop running OpenSuSE 11.2. I use the Yast menu to set up network settings via "traditional" ifconfig setup (not NetworkManager), because I found NM unusable in prior releases when doing network gymnastics such as router re-flashing, LAN reconfiguration, etc. where I needed control of the IP address, netmask, DHCP, tftp, etc. My laptop works fine with Yast "traditional" ifconfig configuration for eth0 connected to router to Internet. Works fine with Yast ifconfig configuration for USB WiFi as wlan1 to WiFi router to Internet. Also works fine for virtual machines on vmnets NAT-ed to the Internet. Works fine as long as there is only one network connection, that is.

Now, I have a second laptop. I want to network laptop #2 eth0 to laptop #1 eth0 for file transfer and/or Internet access WHILE laptop #1 is is linked to the Internet through wlan1. Unfortunately, I have not figured out how to get Yast/Network Configuration to do that. I have not been able to get Yast/Network Configuration to see both wlan1 and eth0 at the same time--when the Yast utility finishes, I do >ifconfig and >route, and I find that I have lost either eth0 or wlan1. Thus, when I do direct-connect file transfers, I loose the WiFi Internet connection on both machines.

I suspect that it might have something to do with Yast/Network Configuration utility not being able to handle two network interfaces on the host with different IP addresses. how to properly put an OpenSuSE machine on two networks simultaneously? And then how to turn on IP forwarding so that I can use laptop #1's WiFi as an Internet gateway for laptop #2?

OpenSUSE :: Yast Won't Start After Changed Some Settings In "local Security"

Aug 20, 2010

1: I changed some settings in "local security", about file permits or something, and now I can't run Yast to fix it, not even see it. Neither can I add or remove any software. And the ugliest part is that I can't even shut down the pc. It pops up a shaking error message about authentication stuff. How do I fix this?

2: It also throws en exception whenever I try to install my monitor's driver, a HannsG, which is an .exe file. I was told I should run .exe files through Wine, but this wont work either. Is there another -and more appropriate- way to execute this files?

OpenSUSE Network :: Get NIS Settings Back Into YaST "User And Group Management"?

Jan 18, 2011

After a disastrous foray into LDAP I restored NIS on a very simple network run by a very simple operator. Everything now works except for YaST on the NIS master. I can't manage NIS users in YaST any more. The option 'show NIS users' is now absent from the 'filter' button up in YaST "User and Group Management" So, after following the YaST route to LDAP there seems no way back...

These are OpenSUSE 11.3 boxes and the slave NIS server can't [obviously enough] delete expired NIS users on the master, although it sees them fine. Disabling or changing NIS server or client on the Master simply restores the 'wrong' settings - nothing is erased or cleaned. How do I clean up NIS controls so YaST sees it properly? or What do I need to do to restore NIS group & user control to YaST?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: My Graphics Card Seems Underpowered

Aug 25, 2010

I have installed Opensuse 11.3 in my Dell Studio 1735 laptop successfully. With your help I succeeded in solve my wireless issue, but unfortunately it seems that I am having other issues.Frankly I am not perfectly sure that my graphics card is acting strangely, what I have noticed using Window Vista ( I have both in my laptop Vista and Linux but in two separately hard disk), the graphic level is superior (definition color, graphic effects and so on).Conversely, when I am using Opesuse, it seems that the graphic card is like powered down. So I am thinking that there is no hardware or firmware problem, but maybe drivers are not so uptodate.

Before getting back to you, I tried to solve the problem by myself: I tried to use every tool the KDE gave to me, but I did not find any parameter to change or error indication.

OpenSUSE Install :: Graphics Card Driver For GMA HD?

Jun 25, 2010

I have unfortunately found myself unable to properly boot up openSUSE because I decided to buy the Acer Aspire with the i5 Processor.

I have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) graphics card, and unfortunately from all my searching online and on openSUSE, I have been unable to find a driver for this that works for linux, and in addition I don't know how to install a driver outside of a GUI.

My openSUSE boots up to the boot choosing screen (regular openSUSE or failsafe), and then that nice list of functions being done is displayed, but as soon as the daemon has started, suddenly my screen goes blank and I am unable to do anything about it. Beyond this point, my OS loses all functionability, and while I can hear it computing, I am unable to actually tell WHAT it is computing. get a driver for this and to install this driver and get this GUI running, that would be great.

OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Get Xgi/sis Graphics Card Working

Release Date: 2009-10-11
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX

[Code]....

Perhaps my last post about this was too long and hence why nobody responded. So i will try and keep it simple and let the experts advise me.

I have tried installing an rpm that I got from rpm search. Namely xorg-x11-driver-video-xgi-1.5.0-6.1.i586 which seemed to install but when I did a query it said it was not installed, but when I tried to do an install again it said it was already installed ??

There is also a file called xserver-xorg-video-sis_0.9.3.orig.tar.gz which i got from this site. I have not managed to extract it properly yet but will look into that myself. It appears to have in it a makefile, so I presume it is source files and I could really do with some help in that.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.4 - Difference In Graphics Card Performance

Apr 22, 2011

I have installed several different distro's over the last coupled of weeks and have finally as intended come back to 11.4. Last time I installed it my pc was fitted with an older nvidia card and I installed a newer 200 series and got it to work with X11 using the nvidia driver. This time I did the install with the new card in and things haven't gone the same way. I have finished up with the os drivers on my system, nouveau and "swrast (No 3D Acceleration) (7.10)". Performance wise it's way way behind the nvidia driver.

Glxgears for instance runs at under 1/2 the speed even at a lower resolution. I suppose I could still configure to suite my monitor but given that difference in performance would you? I have done what I can easily do with repositories but no signs of nvidia drivers. I can download one as I did last time but from what I have read previously the above drivers may mean that I have to recompile the kernel. A simpler solution might be to re install with my old card in. Can't say I'm too keen on either option. Some distro or the other had a driver helper and installed the nvidia one perfectly.
