I am experiencing frequent crashes for my browsers (FireFox, Opera, Konquerer). It doesn't seem to be related to the amount of tabs I have open, sometimes it will crash on 1 tab, and sometimes it is fine to have 20 tabs up. In addition to this, some flash videos hang after 3 secs.
PC spec:
OS: SuSE 11.2 (x86_64)
GUI : XFCE (KDE 4.0 back up)
Intel Q6600, 2GB Ram DDR2, 9800GX2
I am having two problems with Flash in Firefox and even Google Chrome. The two problems are 1) videos are purple looking and 2) if i switch to another video Flash crashes. I have Ubuntu 10.04 and it is a clean install fully up to date.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery since updating to kde 4.3, I have been experiencing frequent X crashes (1-2 times a day) whenever compositing is turned on (nvidia card). I was hoping that kde 4.3.1 would fix the issue for me, but no luck. So, I'd like to figure out what the nature of the problem is so that I can report it to the appropriate (ahem) authorities, but am not exactly sure how to dig up any useful information. The Xorg log didn't *seem* to have anything particularly informative to say about it (just a few lines about nvidia_drv.so).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI suspect this is the appropriete section for my post:I'm having a problem with opera (the same happens with FF and konqueror).The browsers will open and play flash content fine.BUT NO SOUND.Sound works with audio players like XMMS and Amarok.I've reinstalled Alsa plugins, KDEmultimedia, and the only libsound package I have in repos, to no avail.Also - can someone direct me to selecting ALSA to be used, vs..(anything else).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI experience X crashes on a frequent level. First it happened with the current stable nvidia 180 driver, and the nonfree flash player (....., vimeo, etc). I replaced the stable nvidia driver with the 180-dev driver which fixed the flash problem. However it still happens that the X chashes without any reason or pattern. One time it crashed the moment I wanted to save a PDF file to my HDD downloading it with Firefox, another time it crashed while idling. I use an Alienware M15x with a nvidia 260M. Compiz is installed and active. Which other data or logs do you need?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having, oddly enough, stability problems on my main slackware desktop. Whenever I try to do certain things, for instance going fullscreen on a flash video, starting regnum online or open arena, it drops out of X into the command line with a few error messages (next time it crashes I'll post the messages). On occasion, it'll do that without any input. Now, there's a few major changes I've had on the desktop since yesterday, chiefly that I've been able to connect it to the net for the first time in a few months. Now because of this, I've been installing plenty of software from slackbuilds, plus flash from adobe (necessary evil). I'm using xfce with some compositing on a geforce Ti 4200 AGP 8x 64Mb with nvidia drivers installed and dual monitors, each now set to 1280x1024 and in twinview, pentium 4 2.8Ghz, 1 GB ram. HDD has a 70GB ext3 slack partition, triple booting with 80GB ext4 ubuntu lucid partition and 40GB ext4 mint isadora.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have been having a problem with the computer I'm using were it keeps freezing (mouse works, however nothing else does). Usually to get out of it I have to use REISUB signal for a forced reboot. This only used to happen once in a while, but was still annoying. Tried a new video card, new motherboard... neither helped. Other Linux OS had the same issue, Windows XP works ok.Yesterday after running a full update it got worse (first since I installed OpenSuse 11.3 64 last weekend). It appears that Firefox will crash X completely. Rendering got slower and Compiz disabled (not a big deal). Opera also crashes and just by resizing a window or scrolling down on gedit also do the same. I found a few errors on my /var/log/messages log, looks like it's related to the driver that I'm using (noveau). I'm pretty good with Linux, but when it comes to X is the same as speaking another language to me! :-S

1. When playing flash videos in firefox, they'll flicker with black screen flashing for a split second over the video(This continues throughout the video)
2. However, if I do either of the following, the flicker goes away (only while doing one of these actions):
a. Continually move the mouse over the video (i.e. move back and forth in a "mouseover")
b. Put the mouse over the scrubber circle (which shows time lapsed and allows dragging to change location in video) such that the "hand" cursor appears. Once the cursor changes back to a pointer, it flickers again. but as long as I move the mouse over the scrubber circle, it'll stop the flickering (even without moving the mouse anymore) until the circle passes beyond the cursor again.

Well I have been trying to view some flash videos on the net and apparantly need to update my flash player. So I go to the Adobe page and download the YUM for Linux. It says it's installed, but I still can't view flash videos.
After a fresh installation of 11.3 KDE, I followed the Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide and I also used the mmcheck to follow every advice and install packages that were recommended.I also spent a few evening this week digging everywhere I could to get sound when playing videos in Firefox without any success. I have the Shockwave Flash 10.1 r102 extension installed in Firefox. I also tested in Chrome that also had the flash plugin and I still had no sound.

did a fresh install of 11.3, running default firefox 3.6.6 with the adobe flash plugin, standard kernel mode setting (kms) video and am getting audio and video play back too fast in sites such as videos. tried setting edit, preferences, applications, flash to "use flash player (default)", does nothing. tried using the nvidia driver, tried updating firefox to 3.6.8, no avail - same thing play back audio and video too fast.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with the latest RC of 11.4. Overall, it works great, but just have 1 issue. No flash videos have audio. Video works just fine. I've tried installing both the flash-player package so that it loads the official 32-bit plugin through ndiswrapper, and tried downloading the Adobe Square 64-bit plugin and installing it. Doesn't make a difference, either way I have working video but not audio. Audio itself on the laptop works with no issues, I listen to Amarok all the time on it. Laptop in question is a Dell Latitude E5500. I've also had Debian Wheezy and Kubuntu 10.10 on here, both had no issues.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi'm really irritated with this huge problem with my system. i'm using ubutnu10.10 on my dell inspiron 1525. the problem is, whenever i play any video on any browser(firefox and chromium), no matter if its your tube or vimeo or whatever. the system crashes as soon as video starts to play. the video plays for few seconds system starts to slow a bit and suddenly it crashed and shuts down.
also while using the totem videos sidebar i can searhc the video but cannot play it at all.
i get this error
"gstreamer encountered a general supporting library error"
i tried other forums too but.. no help till now. its like 2 months with both these problems
flash version 10.0 r45 in firefox plays video, graphics, and sound just fine. however, while i'm playing a video on videos, or listening to pandora, the sound could unexpectedly crash. when this happens, sound doesn't just stop playing. it keeps playing but loops the sound every second or so - it's kind of strange to describe; the sentence, "hello, how are you?" could sound like "he-he-he-he ar-ar you-you-you". has anyone experienced this? i say it happens 'unexpectedly' because i can't replicate the crash on demand, but it happens in every firefox session. it seems that it does not matter what i'm doing - i've tried crashing it by making a flash video full screen and exiting continuously etc. because sometimes it happens when i'm going to full screen or changing tabs.
however, most of the time it happens when i'm not even touching the computer - i'm not sure if some background process can cause flash's buffer to overflow, or whatever. other times, it doesn't even need me to play anything for it to crash the sound in flash - it could loop sound from the first time i tried playing it in flash in that ff session. even when i exit firefox or pause the sound it takes a few second for the loops to stop. however, when i restart firefox the sound is fine until it crashes again and i have to restart, again! i tried removing libflashsupport as i read in other threads that it causes sound issues - no luck there. i uninstalled, installed and all that jazz. tried strace - doesn't report any flash errors for some reason, or as far as i can understand.
i also installed the flash debugger for use with the firebug extension, flashbug addon in firefox, but i'm not getting anything there either - i think it can't locate the flash debugger, although it lists the right version. i haven't had this problem with chromium yet, but i mostly use it when flash sound in firefox crashed and i don't want to reload ff; i think they use the same 'libflashplayer.so'? also, just to clarify, sound from the mplayer plugin works fine, and when the sound crashes in flash it does not cause ff to crash and quit. firefox continues to run normally but when i play sound in flash it starts looping. i've had sound problems in the past and i'm thinking there is something i messed up in the packages i have installed. i uninstalled pulseaudio because it was the only way i could find to get my skype working. how would i know if there are conflicting elements?

it seems to me like there should be a conflict between all those using the same sound control? however, why would it just happen unexpectedly? also, is there a way that i could dissociate sound from firefox without having to reload a whole session with many tabs?

i am using 64-bit ubuntu 10.04 and recently upgraded my drivers to catalyst 11.2 (ati mobility radeon 5470). lately my flash has been crashing constantly, to the point where i've uninstalled it so i can use the internet. the browser eventually recovers on websites like facebook and the worst culprit, gmail (videos is hopeless), and does so immediately if i "killall npviewer.bin" - firefox will go unresponsive for about 30 seconds then recover, and depending on the website it will go unresponsive again - on gmail this only takes a few seconds. it happens in firefox, epiphany, and chromium. i think this problem looks familiar and there was some fix by editing a text file somewhere, but i can't find that problem i remember anymore so i can't check.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI don't know what happened, but sometime within the last week I have started having a really annoying issue. Whenever I open a web page, that contains embedded Flash, in any browser (Firefox, Google Chrome, Chromium, or Opera), the entire browser, and all windows and tabs, freezes for about :15 seconds or so. After that time, everything unfreezes and works as normal, except for the video which often times doesn't even play after the freeze occurs. I don't believe I have made any major changes to my system, just the updates that show up in the notification area.

I installed 64bit flash last week when I installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on my new laptop, and for the past week it has worked without issues.
However a couple of day ago it simply stopped showing flash videos on sites such as ..... etc. I think there might have been a ream of updates around the time this happened but my memory is a little vague.
I have since tried installing the each of the 3 flash codecs in turn that Firefox recommends but these will not install, failing with an exit status of 2. After I tried this I followed the 64bit flash instructions on the Wiki once more to get back to the point when it previously worked but alas this has been of no help.
I have also tried loading flash videos in Chromium and these suffer from the same issue. Anyone have any ideas what could have caused flash to suddenly stop working?
i'm running 10.04 x64, with the latest versions of google chrome, chromium, opera, epiphany, firefox, and swiftfox.
strangely, flashplayer works fine in all of them except swiftfox, where it presents a garbled, unclickable video window (tested in videos).
all my other ff addons and plugins seem to work ok in swiftfox, so i assumed that swiftfox is just reading and using everything in ~/.mozilla, including flash. but perhaps not. anyone have any idea why ff's flashplayer doesn't work in swiftfox?

The screen will go black with some text output (all I can quickly read is something about pulse audio) then flash black, then text, then black over and over. I tried to edit a video with Pitivi and the system crashed too. I saw an error about gstreamer that time. I set multimedia to No Xv and the test works but when playing an avi the system still crashes. If I test the multimedia with autodetect the system crashes.

I'm not sure why this is happening, but when I looked through my system log files I found what's on the attached file. A couple of other programs that I use frequently (xmms2d and epiphany) have similar entries, and I assumed they are related because they are typically running when the slowdowns occur. Also, my /home partition is giving some errors which may or may not be related.
View 5 Replies View RelatedUbuntu Hangs While Trying to Transfer Photos and Videos From Digital Camera I have a Canon Powershot S3 IS and I've been trying to transfer photos and videos (13 gigs worth) from it to a local folder (I'm currently using Ubuntu 10.04) via USB cable. I've had very little success - I've only transferred one video file, everything else failed, including a single photo transfer attempt!
First it would take really long for the actual transfer to start after I've dragged and dropped files from the camera to a local folder (or even doing ctrl+c and ctrl+v). The progress bar would appear, but then it would take forever before the file transfer would start. In the case of the single video transfer, it started and finished after a while. But when I selected all of the videos on the camera and tried to transfer it all, it would just take a really long time, slow down gnome to the point of hanging, and then eventually just show me an error message indicating nothing could be transferred.
