View 3 RepliesMy new box has gotten laggy as all get out.I did a netstat just for the heck of it and:
Code:
0 0 localhost.localdoma:ipp localhost.localdo:47567 TIME_WAIT -
tcp 0 0 localhost.localdoma:ipp localhost.localdo:47557 TIME_WAIT

have a f11 load running right now on my box and recently, for some reason completely unknown to me, all of the sights (such as videos) that embed .flv files have stopped working. i can see where the videos should be displayed and i can see all of the adverts for the other videos that they would like for me to watch instead of and/or next, but i get a big blank hole where the actual vid should be. i have some .flv files i have snagged over the years stored on my hdd and i can still play those with my installed totem player, which seems to be what is listed as the default plugin for firefox for such files.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had some difficulties playing non-flash videos on my ubuntu.
I have an example link:
[URL]
How am I supposed to play these videos.
I can't get it to work in Ubuntu. I started in Chrome, where it simply was silent. Then I moved it to Firefox, where it said I needed a plugin to play the media, which I installed. That didn't work. I started following the instructions here, but was unable to install mozplugger.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI went to mozilla, installed the tar ball package into /opt/, then double clicked on the shell script named firefox inside the /opt/firefox folder.I go to a few sites that stream videos kind of in a way YouTube does as well. So when I go to play the file which is typically in a jwplayer. Firefox thinks I am trying to open to save the file? It attempts to play the video inside dragonplayer, I just want it to run the video. I have also uninstsalled IceWeasel, running KDE shell. x64.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know why but suddenly Firefox has stopped playing any of the Vimeowebsite videos. I am assuming it has to do with some recent software update (no clue which one.)First of all I want to see if anyone else is having this problem. If it's just me then I will have to solve it the local level although I don't have a clue where to start with this one.I would be grateful to anyone who has also seen this to verify that its not just my system getting funky.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI got this working before, but now I have a freshly installed Ubuntu 10.04 and I wanna play yahoo pool and I followed all those crazy insane commands they posted but they (java) didn't help at all, their support and help is really poor as I get errors like directory does not exist or no such file. I basically installed the jre-6u21-linux-i586.bin file in my home directory like and used all their commands like cd /home and all that. Here is my ls output they say always to check, but it seems like I installed it but I can't get it installed with firefox together.

Today I added more fonts to ~/.fonts directory. I launched Opera and the fonts are gone funny [image attached]. I don't have this problem in Firefox of Google Chrome/Chromium. I changed fonts in Opera >> Preferences but to no avail. Also I deleted .opera directory. No joy. The only solution I've found is to delete .fonts directory (but I want those fonts for other applications).

View 1 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.10. All things have been working well and as expected until tonight. I was updating some flac files using easyTAG (AAC), adding pictures and changing things a little, then dropping them into a Sansa Fuze+. All things I've done with this setup before and with no problems. I close easyTAG and try to open: Places/ Pictures. Instead of the normal brouser up pops easytag at the pictures directory.
I test all other Places. For each Place selected easyTAG opens instead of the usual brouser. I go to synaptic and remove easyTAG and then restart the system. All is now normal again (except that easyTAG is missing). I reload easyTAG and once again it has put itself as the preferred tool to view directories. How do I restore things to normal and what have I done?
i'm using debian wheezy and whenever i'm playing a webm video, typically on videos, totem and mplayer can't play video. the video just freezes. (i assume because they both use gstreamer.) when i try to use vlc when those 2 aren't working, the video does play but there is no sound.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI decided to enable dual stack on my home 11.3 machine and play with IPv6. I use ifup to assign static addresses to eth0. FYI here are some things I found:
1. YaST doesn't seem to support associating IPv6 addresses to interfaces, it complains that the address is invalid. However you can edit /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 manually and specify it like this:
Code:
LABEL_0='V6'
IPADDR_0='FEC::10.1.1.1/64'
SCOPE_0='site'
and when you restart the networking you will see an additional IPv6 address associated with eth0. Fortunately YaST doesn't mangle the entry when you look at it, but you can't edit it.
2. The SCOPE qualifier is documented in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg.template, but seems to have no effect. Site local addresses in IPv6 are supposed to start with FE[CDEF] according to this:
The TCP/IP Guide - IPv6 Special Addresses: Reserved, Private (Link-Local / Site-Local), Unspecified and Loopback
Once bound, you can connect to services using the IPv6 address just like normal. You have to use ping6 instead of ping though.
I added an AAAA record to my nameserver and that seems to work. Whether the client software tries the IPv6 address varies. It depends on whether the software asks for the AAAA record and uses it. It seems my web browsers don't. I'm not surprised, since few people have IPv6 tails from their ISP. I'm going to look and see if there is some browser setting I have to adjust. I also have to figure out a way of making sure that only LAN destinations use IPv6.
I am trying to set up sound notifications for my wireless internet because my router is old and glitchy (plus it would be pretty cool to hear Homer Simpson get exited about me connecting to the internet). The only notification that does not work is the sound option. I can point the network manager to the .wav file but it will not play, even when I press the little play/test button.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I started to play songs, I have the normal sound. However, after some time, the songs are still being played but there is no sound anymore. It is not for music player so I don't think it is a player problem. In addition, after I delete and reinstall the audio card, the sound comes back. I have another problem about sound card disturbing me. When I watch ..... using firefox, there is no audio from the video. However, I do have the audio when the chrome is used. What could cause that? I kind of believe those two problems are related. The problem happens after I upgrade my 10.3 to 11.2 and now I am using 11.3. Does that come from the new configuration conflicts with the old one?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThere is no sound when playing avi files in XBMC.The videos play fine & there is sounds in menu.When i switch to Root the movies have sound,so whats wrong here?
View 9 Replies View Relatedbut after a forum search I only found one similar thread, but seemingly the issue was not totally solved. I just would like to suggest a solution (well, most likely a workaround) for .rmvb Real Player movies which don't work well on Kaffeine, without need to install other players or applications.I first saw many people had similar problems as me: Real Player movies just played sound but not video, or viceversa. I first tried installing w32 codecs, but this seems to be the good solution for 32 bit users, I use 11.3 x64 and didn't work for me. After some Google search I came to this page:Index of /pool/non-free/w/w64codecs/
Seems to be a Medibuntu repository, and I looked for a .tar file, since I was looking for a "w64" version of the codecs. I downloaded the latest .tar.gz file found on the page, the 20071007 one and uncompressed it. It has some codec files and a Readme which tells where to put the files. After that done, without rebooting Suse, I tried again to play the movie, and Kaffeine finally played it well, although now it pops a message saying Kaffeine closed unproperly whenever I close it after having played a .rmvb movie. I think that can be solved by updating Kaffeine, but haven't tried that yet
I am using open suse 11.4, and have been trying to play video files from a web site, but when I click on the play link all that happens is that it goes to the page where the video should be but it doesn't load or play, not sure if it is a flash or java problem. the file plays without problem in Ubuntu 10.10 and also Win 7. it is a video file from [URL].
