OpenSUSE :: Evolution, Recent Email Addresses Drop Down?

Apr 10, 2011

I have a feeling this is going to be something no one cares about enough to have bothered with, however, just in case someone else got frustrated enough to figure this out I thought I would ask.I have an associate I send and receive a lot of email with. They have one email they use rarely (once a month) and another they use all the time. The problem is that evolution always shows the one they use rarely first.

That is, when I partially type in their name in the "to" field those two email addresses will list in a drop down. I would like to either remove the rarely used email address from the list or have evolution list from most recently used (like "The Bat!" does, a Windows email client I use) instead of however it does it now, presumably it's just in alphabetical order.Right now about 20% of my emails go to this other email address because I'm busy, in a hurry, tired or whatever and just forget that it defaults to the wrong one all the time and it's caused the occasional problem.

Applications :: Kmail/Kontact - Recent Addresses To Contacts?

Oct 18, 2010

I am using Kontact for mailing (with 'build-in' kmail), scheduling etc. I can fill a contact list manually in Kontact which is accessible when I am composing an email. Manually filling is quite time-consuming so I would like to know whether it is possible to one (or both) of the following things:

1) save your Kmail 'recent addresses' list to 'Contacts'

2) save emailadresses in incoming mail to 'Contacs'

[EDIT] I don't think it really matters but I am using OpenSUSE 11.1 at my office and Kubuntu 10.04 at home. My question is for both OSs

OpenSUSE :: Evolution Mail - 11.3 - Does Not List All Email Accounts

Jul 23, 2010

I have just installed/upgraded OpenSUSE 11.3 and setup Evolution Email with 3 Email Accounts. Just for a while I could see all 3 accounts listed on the left column.Suddenly after reading some emails I just noticed that one Email Account (Comcast) had disappeared from the listing. I went to Edit-->Preferences and all 3 accounts are there and all 3 have check marks. I have done a lot of things trying to fix this issue, even uninstall/reinstall Evolution Mail, but nothing of what I have done has been able to make this Email account to be listed again.

Fedora :: Error While Fetching Email. Evolution Version: Evolution 2.28.0

Apr 5, 2010

I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Ubuntu :: Evolution Email - Intersperse Replies Into Quoted Email?

Apr 24, 2010

I use 'quoted' style for reply emails. I want to be able to intersperse my replies within a quoted reply i.e. if the email had three paragraphs, I'd like to be able to have my replies between each of the paragraphs. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to do anything other than delete from the quoted section - I try to simulate my requirements by cutting and then 'paste quotation', but this doesn't always work as sometimes Evolution adds too many levels of '> ' .

OpenSUSE :: Allow Evolution Email Client To Automatically Unlock Default Keyring?

May 10, 2010

So I've tried finding a solution to this on my own for the past few days (believing it is a simple solution), but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I'm running 11.2 and I have Evolution as a start-up program and I have finally got my wireless working, so it connects automatically at start-up also. I figured out how to have network manager automatically unlock the default keyring, but...

Each time evolution starts up I am prompted to unlock the default keyring. How can I give Evolution permission / access to the default keyring automatically so it can check me email upon start-up without me having to type in my password?

General :: New Email Addresses Not Saved?

Dec 5, 2009

I have my email on a separate partition so that my email doesn't get destroyed when I do new linux installs (I have emails from 5 years ago now). I also keep my sylpheed email addressbooks. This partition is writable by anybody and I have also made my user the owner of this partition during each linux install (media/email). When I set up sylpheed I tell it that my email is in /media/email and then it is able to write incoming messages to that location. The problem I am having is that I make symbolic links for my addressbooks from ~/.sylpheed* to /media/email using this:cd ~/.sylpheed*rm addrbook-000001.xmlln -s /media/email/addrbook-000001.xml addrbook-000001.xmlSylpheed finds my addressbook ok on my email partition but changes that symbolic link to a file on ~ when it writes new addresses. What am I doing wrong...I want it to write new addresses to my email partition?

After recent update (yesterday) Evolution became almost unusable: if I am going to create a new e-mail or just select a person from Contacts or reply to someone it simply crashes. The update also didn't go very smooth - 15 updates were not applied because of a broken dependency - evolution-exchange, which depended on evolution prior to 2.30.0 but 2.30.1.2-2 was to be installed. Is there a way to make Evolution to work or upgrade solving dependencies?

Software :: Using NAT And Want To Do Intranet Email Using IP Addresses Instead Of Names

Jan 10, 2011

I've got 2 computers plugged into an "ethernet broadband router" sitting behind a DSL modem. I'd like to be able to send mail from one of the 2 computers to the other, preferably without going through the DSL modem, and preferably without assigning host names (if that's possible).

I've installed/configured sendmail (and sendmail-cf and m4) and am attempting babystep tests of the configuration by sending mail to a user on the originating computer.

So I can send email to root@localhost and it is received on the local host.

But if I try to send it to root@127.0.0.1, it bounces back like so:

This seems to be pretty fundamental (the localhost has an address of 127.0.0.1). Shouldn't I be able to use the IP address in place of the associated name?

Here's my hosts file /etc/hosts:

Code:

And here's my resolv.conf file, although I wouldn't expect that to come into play since I'm using IP addresses instead of names /etc/resolv.conf:

Code:

Here's my /etc/mail/access file:

Code:

I did verify that sendmail was configured to listen in on more than just the loopback address in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc, but that doesn't seem to be relevant until I can get email through to 127.0.0.1.

Which files do I need to create/touch to get this to work?

And can it be done without talking to the DSL modem?

Debian Configuration :: Why Does /etc/aliases Choke On Email Addresses

Dec 21, 2010

Related to my last post in that it is another email issue, but something else I am having a problem with.

Debian Lenny on virtual KVM (32-bit, v5.0.7)

With Postfix it is necessary to have an alias for root, eg: root: someuser

In theory, and as far as I am aware, this can also be something like: root: someone@someaddress.tld

When I use the latter, though, the following happens whenever my system tries to redirect root email messages, but not when I use the root: someuser method in the aliases file (and, yes, I do know to use newaliases after amending the file).

The firewall is not an issue (tested with and without the firewall), nor are the resolvers, and the DNS for accounts on the box is all okay and fully propagated. Also, changing the email address to something like this.address@google.com does not work, either, - same error message.

Server :: Postfix Setup - Make Own Email Addresses

May 14, 2011

It wasn't too long ago that I discovered Linux/Ubuntu (in terms of actually USING it) and I've been completely blown away by the capabilities it puts in the user's hands! To think that someone can take an old desktop from a trash pile (literally, in my case) and turn it into a web server for ZERO dollars is absolutely crazy.

Anyway, I've been using said desktop as a sort of "dummy" machine to learn Linux. I want to be clear that I've got another computer for personal use and that I understand that setting up server software on any computer poses a security risk. Having said that, I have a few questions regarding mail servers and their setup on Ubuntu. Again - I'm comfortable with what I've done so far in Ubuntu (installing packages, terminal interaction, basic usage)

My question is mainly this: if you have, say, a domain name through DynDNS (let's say example123.com) and it points to an Ubuntu system, does something like Postfix enable you to make your own email addresses such as user1@example123.com and have an email server from wherever the Ubuntu system is?

I've been following the basic Postfix setup here and have had success so far (down to the "Adding your local domains to postfix" section) bu wanted to make sure that what I'm intending to do is what I'm doing (haha... i hope that makes sense). That is: get domain name at DynDNS, host pages on LAMPP server, use Postfix to facilitate incoming/outgoing email for that domain name.

Fedora :: F15 - Evolution Email Won't Start?

Jul 19, 2011

I set up a new machine w/ f15 this past weekend. Everything seems to work fine except Evolution. The first time I ran Evolution I restored my Evolution v2.3 (mbox) files that I had backed up from F13. I did this from the setup wizard so I actually never "opened" Evolution. The conversion to maildir appeared to go OK, and I can see the files in /home/oldan/.local/share/evolution/mail/local/cur. Each file (there are 17,000+) can be opened, so the data conversion is intact.

However, I am unable to open the application at all. In the GUI (KDE) I get a spinning icon that goes away in about 30 sec. From a command prompt as a regular user I get:[oldan@Fedora15-001 Documents]$ evolution (evolution:4822): Unique-GDBus-WARNING **: Error while sending message: Timeout was reached

As root I get[root@Fedora15-001 Documents]# evolution No protocol specified Cannot open display: Any one have a clue as to what might be happening?

Every so often I'll get a message that is written in rich text and sent from the group's web post feature, but only half of it is displayed. If I check the message source the entire message is there, and if I change Evolutions settings to plain instead of HTML then the entire message is there.

The weird thing is it only seems to be the messages from one particular poster that is being cut off.

It'd be nice if I could stick with HTML and Evolution.

Ubuntu :: Why Use Email Accounts Evolution

Oct 27, 2010

All my email accounts are internet based. I have quite a few:

2 Gmail accounts - my main one and a more formal one for job searches and resume stuff.
1 Yahoo account for everything else so most spam will go there.
1 University account that I have to use while taking a masters degree program
1 AOL account - a holdout from a long time ago that I hardly ever check.

What would be my reason for using a computer based email system like Evolution or Thunderbird? Could I combine all this accounts to one place? Would I want to? I don't have a job right now so I don't have a work email. I thought it would me nice if I could somehow go to one place to see all these email accounts. I will check it out on my own but I thought I would ask the forum for some wisdom.
