I am running openSUSE 11.2 and would like to connect to MsSQL using PHP5.3.0 (I do connect to MySQL 5.1.45). Lots of info is available on the Google but nothing on SUSE. I installed "freeTDS" and "PHP5-PDO" objects but am not sure which way to go. Is ODBC another option? speed/functions?

I can retrieve int's just fine, but not nvarchar's. I'm using unixODBC 2.2.12 and FreeTDS 0.82. The funny thing is, that I can use isql and tsql with no problem. The mssql_test program:

I have been using Suse since version 6, now I installed 11.4 64bit - great distro, but still have no PHP5-MSSQL support. Why is that? FC supports it, why not Suse?
Is there, maybe, a current 64bit PHP5-MSSQL RPM from custom repository?
Workaround: Is there another way (or even different ways?) to connect to MSSQL server from PHP and if yes
Can we get this built into the distribution? This would really set it apart from other distributions that don't have this included. And it would most likely make a lot of PHP developer lives a bit easier.

On a older installation (2 years old, but up2date) i had no problem installing php-mssql. I cant tell the difference. I've read this tread:

I just succesfully installed Centos 5.5 64bit with following package:
- httpd 2.2.3-43
- php-mysql 5.1.6-27
- mysql 5.0.77-4
and all these packages are running ok.
My question is how do i connect from Centos to another MSSQL server using PHP? I had read several article but cannot find the best way to achieve this because most of the instruction seems to be quite complicated. I found somewhere in this forum that all it need just this simple command: "yum --enablerepo=extras install php-mssql freetds". While others article said that i need to install "FreeTDS" and some ODBC driver. I'm a little bit curious since most of that article are using an older version of Centos and PHP.
It took a while but I got my home webserver setup and running with mysql. Now I want to import a 70MB MSSQL backup file from my hosting company. I noticed phpMyAdmin can import up to 2MB. Any suggestions on how to do this for a larger file. I do have access to the server running SSH so I'm not opposed to using the command line if I need to.

We used to have a partial T-1 line with router that ran fine with both OS, but we had to drop the T-1 and go with AT&T DSL, which runs fine with Vista, but won't connect with KDE. Every other wlan works, ethernet works, settings are definitely correct because it works with windows, other computers.And on the same computer even with gnome networkmanager! Also it used to work fine earlier. Behavior the same with different users including root, regardless of using kwallet or not. Networkamanager tries to connect and after one or two minutes throws the setting window back at me. I uninstalled and re-installed and deleted all related files I could think of. I even tried a complete fresh installation of opensuse only keeping the /home partition, so the problem must be lying there I guess. But then why all users?

I just bought a new USB wireless adapter for my openSUSE 11.3 laptop, a TP-Link TP-WN727N. I can't get the new card to connect to my home wireless network, which is named WRT320N in the screenshot. KDE prompts for the key repeatedly but never connects successfully. Part of the problem might stem from the fact that this laptop now has 2 wireless cards: one build into chipset (PRO/Wireless 3945ABG) and the new USB card. Both show up in knetworkmanager but no clear distinction is made between them visually. Strangely my wireless network shows up twice in knetworkmanager as in the screenshot. Once per wireless card? As my wireless network is N-only I don't see why it would do this.

I have a wireless network with a hidden SSID and WPA2-PSK security. I entered all the nescery information into the KDE network manager, but it couldn't find my network. So I ran the usual command:

su -c iwlist wlan0 scanning essid [My SSID]
At which point, the network manager immediately found, and connected to, the network. However, it seems that I have to run this command (as root) each time I log in, before my laptop will connect to the network. The network manager has no problem find the plethora of unsecured networks as well as those that are secure, but broadcast their SSID.
Using openSuSE 11.4 D-Link DWL-520+ won't connect to my router. The computer recognises the wireless card is there and working but I can't get it to connect to the router. Not sure how to get it to connect.

then ctrl + alt + backspace
and back into kde
suddenly i am online again
this is confusing how can smeegol my network manager up that hard that even a restart wont get it connected.
It is not possible to download pictures from a USB connected camera in PTP mode (SuSE 11.2), though digikam detects the camera correctly upon turning it on. I tried this with digikam, picasa, and gtkam and various cameras (Nikon D200 , Traveller, ...). The PTP download mode worked flawlessly in previous releases (11.0). I know also from other people having the same problem. However, if the camera permits to switch the USB connection to Mass storage mode, then download of images is possible. This, however, cannot serve as a general solution to the problem, because there are cameras on the market, that only have PTP mode (e.g. Nikon D300). Furthermore controlling a camera via gtkam requires PTP mode.

Some backstory to this adventure:My mainboard is an MSI K9AGM2-L with the AMD SB600 chipset providing the AHCI SATA controller for four ports, two of which (#s 3 and 4) are available.
A Rosewill RCR-AK-IM5002 internal card reader (manufacturer page missing) provides a SATA-to-eSATA adaptor port.
I wish to use a SAMSUNG Spinpoint M7E HM641JI 640GB 2.5" SATA hard disk drive externally. First, I had a Vantec NST-260SU-BK 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 and eSATA enclosure. As explained in this forum post, all seemed well at first. But even though I got absolutely no visible errors, I could see (through hash checking and byte-by-byte comparisons) that writing (copying) to the external disk was not happening correctly. After exchanging the enclosure several times, I finally noticed that the retailer had a different (generic) brand, so I got one of those instead. (The particular unit I got was missing its screws; had a protrusion in its casing that obstructed the circuit board's seating; and caused even my mainboard's firmware to lock up when it was probed, twice, on each boot. A replacement with the same model remedied those three issues.)
Now we come to the present. The Comkia MM-G3BK-SUE MobiMe G3 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 and eSATA enclosure (manufacturer page missing) doesn't seem to exhibit the writing issue (yet) -- hurray! However, it causes libata to struggle for fifteen seconds or so trying to connect when it is plugged in. (It also causes openSUSE to stall while booting for that reason.) I've spent 29 hours trying to figure this out. And I'm about to blow my brains out. Fresh install 11.2. - 64bit but tried 32 bit and same thing. Dell studio 1734. Broadcom wireless and wired. Installed broadcom drivers (b43) through yast. Wired eth0 works. Wireless eth1 works. Surf with Firefox fine. BUT. Kmail will not connect through wireless. Nor can I access repositories through wireless.
Tried blacklisting B43 in ssb no change. What in the hell is going on? I've searched forum after forum and tried everything and CANNOT make this happen.
