Ubuntu :: Find Out The Ftp Username And Password On Computer?
Aug 26, 2010I installed lucid lynx about a month ago. with I installed filezilla and I have wordpress running on localhost.
When I do an automatic on wordpress it asks for ftp credentials. I don't my ftp credentials. I was not aware that I had ftp username and password. I am not sure if that means I installed the ftp server without knowing. my root password does not work on this.
I tried searching through wordpress forums but most of them show me how to set the ftp username and password in wp-config file so that it doesn't ask for it every time.
How can I find out the ftp username and password on my computer.

May 27, 2009I have an ubuntu 8.04 running samba that's integrated with active directory but not using winbind. Things are working fine except there are lot of entries in the samba logs about:

CARBY is the domain name and kentoso is the computer name. I only see this error for the computers and not the users. Other than this, it's working fine. Is there a way to make this error go away? This is the smb.conf file:

The workgroup set in samba is FILE-SHARING, so I login with the following: FILE-SHARINGmyuser password and that's when I get the unknown username or bad password thing.
I had a look to /etc/samba/smb/conf security = user is uncommented the shared folder appears at the end of the config file In despair, I've also created an identical user on win 7 and the linux box. I noticed that users on the machine can login into vsftpd with their username and password on the machine and go to their root dir "/home/username".Now, I want to give some people a vsftpd username and password so they can upload and download files and folders to their folder, but this folder has to be in the "/var/www/(username)" folder. I don't want them to be able to go to any other folder than their own folder like "/var", "/etc" or "/home" etc. Also I don't want them to be able to login on the machine as a user, through putty for example. They should only be allowed to acces their folder with vsftpd, nothing else.

I have a broadband(dsl) connection from bsnl dataone (a state owned telecom service provider). I connect to internet via a huawei wa1003a ethernet/usb/wireless modem which is provided by my service provider. I need a username and a password everytime i connect to internet via dial-up.
I was using windows xp service pack ii. It was nice and easy installing my modem on xp either via usb or ethernet. Both ways it was easy as i have both the drivers with me.Only and main problem was fighting viruses. I tried many free downloadable anti-virus software to protect my maching. Initially they were fine. But after few months they stopped taking regular updates and became non-functional. I also tried symantec corporate v.10. But it has its drawbacks also. It made my machine perform like a snail.I had previously heard about linux based operating systems. But never tried one. As i am an ameteur in using computers windows xp was suiting my needs. Recently i saw an article in the newspaper about ubuntu which is a free open source operating system. And most important to me it is virus free.But here is a problem also. I cannot connect to internet. My ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala is not identifying my modem and a network between my modem and my machine cannot be established. Also i cannot create a dial-up option where i can give username and password.

May 15, 2010I have a 9.10 installation that I am unable to connect with SAMBA.
Attempts to access this (from Windows XP) give an error "the password or username is invalid".
I can see the computer, but not connect.
The Ubuntu installation is set up with the same user and password I normally use, and the files are setup the same way. I even copied smb.conf from another installation which works.
I set up SMB when prompted by shares-admin.

Jun 10, 2009I have set up an ubuntu server running PPTP Server for VPN connections. I can successfully connect from a laptop within the LAN, but taking that same machine to an internet connection and trying to connect back in does not work. The only difference is that when I connect from within the network, I am obviously using the server's LAN (non-routable) address, and when I am connecting from outside the network (from Verizon Business DSL ), I am using the Comcast connection's static IP address.
I have a static IP address on a Comcast Business Class internet connection. Router is set to forward pptp and GRE ports.
Works:
VPN Server <- Laptop
iPhone -> Internet -> Router -> VPN Server
Does not work:
Laptop -> Internet -> Router -> VPN Server
Here is the weird thing. I have an iPhone that connects flawlessly every time through it's AT&T data connection. The laptop however, gets to "verifying username and password", and then returns error 619. It seems that there is an issue only when going through the router using the PPTP client built into MS windows.

Apr 25, 2010Been using 11.2 for a couple of months now, mostly I've solved my own problems or read from some preexisting already solved problems on threads like these. But, I'm not even sure where to start with this one. I cannot login under my main username, the account is set to autologin, and I get the login screen instead. When I attempt to login I get a black screen for about a second then it bumps me back to the login screen, no error messages. I'm able to login under runlevel 3, but as soon as I try to "init 5" it bumps me out and back to the login screen.
Root account works fine, and I used it to create a secondary account from which I am posting from right now. The behavior started after the system put the display to sleep while I was watching a movie in VLC, I woke it up just as it turned completely black, it hung there and I was forced to hard reboot. Had the problem ever since (for several hours now, lol).
I use Gnome but I installed KDE to see if it would resolve my problem, but no dice.
General :: GNU-Screen Still Has Only Old Groups For Username
Mar 26, 2010I was recently added to a group on the unix server. My active screen session has not been update to the new groups:

$screen -r

Without closing my screen session is there a way for me to use my new privileges in the screen session? Or if not, is there at least a way I can save all of the different directories each of the tabs are on?
