I installed lucid lynx about a month ago. with I installed filezilla and I have wordpress running on localhost.
When I do an automatic on wordpress it asks for ftp credentials. I don't my ftp credentials. I was not aware that I had ftp username and password. I am not sure if that means I installed the ftp server without knowing. my root password does not work on this.
I tried searching through wordpress forums but most of them show me how to set the ftp username and password in wp-config file so that it doesn't ask for it every time.
How can I find out the ftp username and password on my computer.

I recently installed vsftpd on my server. I noticed that users on the machine can login into vsftpd with their username and password on the machine and go to their root dir "/home/username".Now, I want to give some people a vsftpd username and password so they can upload and download files and folders to their folder, but this folder has to be in the "/var/www/(username)" folder. I don't want them to be able to go to any other folder than their own folder like "/var", "/etc" or "/home" etc. Also I don't want them to be able to login on the machine as a user, through putty for example. They should only be allowed to acces their folder with vsftpd, nothing else.

I accidently created an account with the wrong username. I need to change it to something else. I never done this before but I think you can issue this command "usermod -l login-name old-name" which only changes the username nothing else.I know I will also need to change the home directory to reflect the changes but I am not sure what to do.

I was recently added to a group on the unix server. My active screen session has not been update to the new groups:
$groups
A B C D
$screen -r
$groups
A B C
Without closing my screen session is there a way for me to use my new privileges in the screen session? Or if not, is there at least a way I can save all of the different directories each of the tabs are on?

When ssh-ing (using putty, if that's relevant), I sometimes mis-type my username, and hit enter before I realise my mistake. Once prompted for a password, is there a a way to go back and re-enter my username rather than having to close the console and open a new one?

Broadcast Accounts...' and 'Ubuntu One...' from under the username menu on the top panel So it went from Screenshot2.jpg to Screenshot.jpg. (The first screenshot is from my laptop which works perfectly - just to demonstrate what I want my desktop (on the right) to look like)I have no idea how I did it, but have spent all day trying to get the buttons back, downloading many applications (and learning a lot about customising gnome!) but to no availEDIT: I've also noticed that the 'Synchronize on Ubuntu One' option when you right click on files and folders does not exist on the desktop pc

I currently have a UNIX script with a function that uses a username and password to connect to the database, retrieve some information and then exit. At the moment, am getting the username and password from a hidden plain text file and permission set to -r--------, i.e. read only to who own the file. The owner of the file is the same owner of the script. At the moment, am not too overly concern as the script works as it is but I want to know if anyone have a suggestion if there is any better way of achieving the same thing with some "form" of security, i.e., for example, masking the username/password.
Basically, I want to be able to mask or hide the username or password in some way. I've thought about encryting the password file, which is in plain text, using simple crypt command from which I retrieve the username and password but I need to decrypt it as well which is sort of similar to how it will be as it is now once it is decrypted. Is there anyway that I can get a username and password in some gibberish format and then translating them into something usable which can be passed on the next command that requires the username/password.
