Networking :: Error - SIOCADDRT: No Such Process

Nov 24, 2010

I am running Fedora Core 7, starting the other day, every time I run service network restart, I get the following output:

Shutting down interface eth0: [ OK ]
Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0: [ OK ]
SIOCADDRT: No such process

Everything works fine. I can connect to Internet, all my shares are fine, etc. I've done some poking around and found this issue in numerous postings, and it ALL seems to point to an issue with my IP and gateway. I've triple checked all my config files looking for an error and everything "appears" fine, but I can't seem to get rid of that "SIOCADDRT: No such process" error. Below are the contents of the respective files:

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
ONBOOT=yes

[code]....

how to get rid of that pesky "SIOCADDRT: No such process" error

General :: Error : There Was An Error Setting Up Inter-process Communications For KDE

Mar 5, 2010

I've been using Kate for a while without any problems.

However, today I tried to install Kedit.

Then I got this message:

"There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE. The message returned by the system was:

Could not read network connection list. /home/mikeb/.DCOPserver_XXX__0

Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!"

Then I uninstalled Kedit, hoping that the damage would be undone.

However, Kate still shows the same message upon startup.

So I reinstalled Kate, and got the same thing.

What did the Kedit installation mess up, and how I can I fix it so I can use Kate again?

Debian Configuration :: Error Starting Domain: Internal Error Process Exited While Reading Console Log Output

Sep 9, 2010

I have mounted an NFS share with ISO images on my kvm Server. If i connect such a iso to a VM (using virt-manager) for installing a operating system i get the following error on startup: Error starting domain: internal error Process exited while reading console log output: char device redirected to /dev/pts/1 qemu: could not open disk image /mnt/iso/public/Linux/Distributions/Debian/debian-504-amd64-netinst.iso: Permission denied

The problem is definitly that kvm (or qemu or libvirt-bin, i don't know) tries to set permissions (rwx owner for libvirt-qemu, --- for kvm group, --- for other) on the file, although it has read permissions. Is it possible to change this behavior?

Fedora Networking :: Connecting To FTP Error "Failed To Execute Child Process "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/firefox" (No Such File Or Directory)"

Aug 3, 2009

I am running F11 and I want to mount an FTP, but when I try to connect to an ftp server using Places -> Connect to Server, or the bookmarks I made I get an error that says 'Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/firefox" (No such file or directory)' and sometimes it mounts anyway, but most the time it doesn't, and it never connects to the folder I asked it to, I just have to open the mount and navigate to it. I figure this happened because Firefox upgraded to 3.5.1 and the folder is now /usr/lib/firefox-3.5.1/firefox, but I don't know how to update this so that it looks in the right location.

Ubuntu :: Error Creating Child Process R-commander - On LTS 10.4

May 8, 2010

I work with social sciences and I really need to use "R". R is a program used for statistics and it has a module called R-commander, which let things easier to deal and comes with several options as opening SPSS files (another statistical package commonly used by Windows users) and other things. THe problem is, as Rcmdr is a module for R, when I run it, it opens a terminal window and then he runs the module, which opens a friendly gui.

It worked okay and clean in Ubuntu 9.10, but for LTS 10.4 I keep getting an error, no matter I reinstall the modules or the entire program. I even installed Ubuntu again without upgrading it from karmic Koala. But there is the same error msg.

The error message says: "Error while creating a child process for this terminal". The strange part is there is no other msgs in the terminal or errorlogs. I really need to use this software for work.

Ubuntu :: Permissions Error With PostgreSQL Psql Process?

Aug 13, 2011

I have installed PostgreSQL 9.0 in Ubuntu 11.04.The following is a bit long-winded and cross-relates to PostgreSQL,I ran the PostgreSQL installation thus:

Code:
sudo su
./postgresql-9.0.4-1-linux.bin[code]....

The problem, obviously, is the "Permission denied" error. What/where am I going wrong? From my directory listing I can see that the permissions for gjd_sentinel_data are drwxrwxrwx with owner/group of postgres. On that basis I can't see why there is the problem.I am wondering if it has something to do with the psql process running as, or owned by, user postgres? Or that I am running as the wrong user? Or something else beyond my experience?

Programming :: Process Abruptly Ends Without Any Error Or Dump?

Apr 21, 2010

I have a process which runs for a while and then due to some unknown reason ends abruptly without giving a core. I tried looking in the logs and after watching for a pattern am still not 100% sure of the reason. So I was wondering if there is a way to catch the signal which ends the process and print some values in the handler function. I have called the handler for SIGTERM and SIGABRT functions but none of these are getting triggered. I looked online and did not find any other option. Can you please suggest if tehre is any other signal that can be caught for this unknown abrupt termination.

Server :: SCSI I/O Error And Unstoppable Apache2 Process?

Apr 30, 2009

I currently have a massive problem with my main webserver: one of the SCSI drives where I keep my htdocs seems to have failed (sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Result: hostbyte=DID_NO_CONNECT driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 7797601).

Since I have no backup (dumb!dumb!dumb!) of it, I tried to copy what I could on the fly, but that failed miserably. The next idea was to umount the volume and try remounting it R-O, but I have a bunch of apache2 processes that are apparently reading/writing on it and I can't seem to find any way of terminating them. I tried via init script, killall and kill -9 but they just don't respond. Until I can terminate those processes, I won't be able to unmount the drive and try saving what's left of the data.Oh and the cherry on top of the cake: the server is 1100 miles away so I can't even access it physically..Is there any way I didn't think of to get rid of those apache processes?

Ubuntu Installation :: E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg Returned An Error Code (1)

Mar 13, 2010

Thought I could just place a hard drive with a preloaded Ubuntu install from another machine (a loaner machine) into this one; change a few drivers and be on my way. Too many errors to count. ALSA; Jack; LiveTex all cratered and I'm tired of fighting this. I've spent more than two days trying to get stuff working and if there's anything I've learned from years of experience there's a time to cut bait and run.

A clean install on the actual hardware I'm using has to be better than the hodge podge I have now. What I would like from the community is recommendations for what to do AFTER the install.

1) where can I find the most up-to-date comprehensive and exhaustive list of repositories for the Synaptic Package Manager?

2) I like to do sound and video processing. I would like to have the program applications
Qsynth, Virtual Midi Keyboard, Muse Score, Csound, GNU Denemo, and many others that either fail to start or produce no sound to work. What, besides the programs need to be loaded in order to make these work?

3) A helpful list of recommendations on what to install along with order preference. In other words 'this needs to be done before this...' on a new Ubuntu install.

In case anyone's interested: Here's a small list of some of the errors I currently have.
AlsaModularSynth - Could not open file.Qsynth1 - Failed to create the audio driver (jack) / Jack server not running.

Errors were encountered while processing:

texlive-latex-base-doc
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Qtractor - The audio/MIDI engine could not be started. Make sure the JACK audio server (jackd) and/or the ALSA Sequencer kernel module (snd-seq-midi) are up and running and then restart the session.

apt-get install alsa-utils - Errors were encountered while processing:
texlive-latex-base-doc
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Jack configuration files not found; the list is endless. Plus many errors trying to get texlive to work.

While booting my fedora15, it gets stuck for about 5-6 minutes. Previously there was no problem. I don't know what made this problem. After going through the boot process, error occurred during network process. Using following command I got the result.

Code: # systemctl status network.service

I noted it down as soon as I saw the message after that long pause.
