My configuration looks as follows.
The problem is that i cannot start the multipathd service.
The devices get created just fine but neither can i run multipathd -k
I have a server that is on both a standard network and a virtual network, as follows: server1 attached to standard network server1 acting as Dom0 with two linux DomU guests (under Xen) I only have one network card. How do I configure server1 to have a different hostname on the standard network than on the virtual network? Here are the relevant network configuration files for server1:

When I create virtual ethernet interface and do a ping -I <v_int> <host> the outgoing address is the one of the physical interface and NOT the virtual interface.Is there no chance that trafic will go out with virtual interface address??Incoming trafic is done well i.e. responds to the virtual interface have the virtual address.
My problem is that I have 2 modems and want to check both default gw behind the modems.
If I do a "normal" ping both are reachable over default route even the modem which is not the default route will not work because ping goes over the working modem.So I have 2 routing tables and want to route the virtual interface to one modem the other to the other modem
I have a project in school that the requirement is to show the proof of concept of a high availability virtual servers. the guest operating system for the test case will be a Windows variant and a Linux variant that if the main host that hosts both of this VMs fails, both VMs will be restarted on the backup host. Simple enough with VMware vSphere and citrix xenserver with essentials with their enterprise features, But I am not allowed to use a software that one will need to pay-for or is only a trial version, i need to use an open source solutions, and i am not allowed to use virtualbox.
the school has provided me 2 server class 64bit hardware with intel-vt support, i have my laptop for management tools and to also run a virtual appliance for a iscsi target (openfiler as a vm in virtualbox in my laptop).
I have figured that i will use KVM on a ubuntu server as my hypervisor but i cant find any how-to on how to implement a high availability setup that will run a windows variant as a guest. can some one give me a step by step on how to do this.
from my research it looks like i will need DRBD and heartbeat, but i dont know how to use them and if they are applicable in my needs. I wouldn't probably use DRBD since I have a sudo SAN with my iscsi target, so i can probably use open-iscsi.

In GNOME, I understand that those settings are kept in "/home/user/.gconf". Can I create a virtual machine and configure the system through the GUI to my liking and then dump all of the settings, so that I can load them on another machine? I'm trying to setup and configure a server entirely with text only run mode 3 on a virtual machine so I can redo my current live server. I'm now trying to set up the firewall of the system using iptables. I've read up on it and came up with the following:
-clear all rules
#iptables -F
-set default policy rules
#iptables --policy INPUT DROP
#iptables --policy FORWARD DROP

Everything above worked for me but just out of interest I looked at my live server which was configured using a GUI. I ran iptables-save and it was pretty much the same but its port open lines read like this:
#iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW --dport 80 -j ACCEPT
so finally my question is do I really need the "-m state --state NEW"? Wouldn't having that drop established connections on those ports? I'm just confused as to what exactly the NEW state is doing and would it make a difference if I didn't include it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been learning linux for a while now with half an eye on making a career out of it in future. One sizeable gap in my knowledge at the moment is networking. Is it feasible/desirable to set up a network of virtual machines to use as an environment to learn networking? My budget is non-existent so I was hoping to be able to get a basic understanding of the principles from installing a few desktops, a virtual gateway etc on VMware workstation on my laptop, and doing a lot of reading online.
Is this feasible, or will I just end up learning about virtual networks instead of real ones? Also how much power would be required, because my 3GB RAM lappy has just gone bang and all I have now is a (new) 1GB RAM lappy.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have spent considerable hours searching forums and googling. I have yet to find out what "lm-sensors acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1:" is actually looking at. I have an Abit IP35 motherboard with Ubuntu 9.04 installed.
Here is the output from sensors:
Virtual Device Temp 1 keeps going up to 121 degrees and the computer shuts down. None of the others overheat. Also, my bios does not show my voltages to be set like it lists above. The bios in the motherboard is the latest from Abit.
I'm having an issue with setting up the virtual hosts on my web server. I have 2 virtual hosts (example1.com, example2.com). example1.com works but example2.com is sent to the index file of example1.com. I did some searching on google and it seems the problem might be with my /etc/hosts file.
