View 3 RepliesI am a little optimistic now after my problem of wifi was solved by stoat that presisted for about a year, now i am trying to install my vpn client. he asks me to write the path of kernel source code directory : and i answer by:/lib/modules/2.6.26.8-57.fc8/build/
But he answers no such directory or file and i dont know why
The build is covered by a red box when displayed by a terminal so can any body tells me where i can find my kernel source directory or i should install them, how
I want to modify the source of cd (the 'change directory' command) to do a little extra for me, but I can't seem to find the source code anywhere.. maybe I didn't look for it well enough, and googling "source code cd" and variants of that doesn't exactly help... I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find the src?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have found that there are certain things on the web that I need to print, that simply refuse to work under linux. I have a samba printer server on one of my Slackware boxes and an M$ XP vm under Vbox that can access the server and see the printer. The only problem that I have is that it expects to download a driver from the server which isn't available and the HP driver installer won't install if it doesn't detect the printer. Short of relocating the printer to install the driver, does anyone know how to get the driver installed on the XP host? This is so much easier with my Slack boxes and CUPS!
View 2 Replies View RelatedHas somebody used DAFS (Direct Access File System)?I've found a lot of literature about this file system, where the comprassion tests promise a ~20-50% faster packet transmission, than in the strandard NFS.But I can't install DAFS,because the source code is for old kernels 2.4.Does anyone know, why did the research of this file system stopped in 2003 year, and there are no newer versions?

A: Can you tell me which code belongs to CB21AG code? In the directory debian/debian/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath5k/ I can see two modules written

2. ahb.c
Not sure which one to look for!!
B: If I want to build ath5k.ko module by making some changes then how to build it? If I go to directory debian/debian/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath5k/ and give make then it doesnt goes through sudipto@sudipto-ThinkPad-T61p:~/kernel_workspace/Development/source/debian/debian/drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath5k$ make make: *** No targets. I read that xinetd listens on the service port and passes incoming traffic to the service (ftpd) via stdin. However, the ftpd source code reads its input from a socket not from stdin.
Am I to conclude that in order to be managed by xinetd, the source code for ftpd (or telnetd etc..) must be modified or recompiled to take its input from stdin??
i am already a little bit familiar with linux and now i want to know better the linux OS. i have downloaded the source code of the krnel from the kernel.org and i dont understand the linux source trees organization, so can somebody do me a favor and give me a link to some internet page (or at least a book) that explains that?? i have searched in the internet with the tag:::linux source trees organization and i have not found nothing interesting

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 9.04, and wish to share a folder to be accessed without logging in via Windows Vista. If I set up the share through the nautilus right-click menu and enable "Guest Account", the share is inaccessible. The folder shows up, but it fails to mount. Vista says that it can see the computer, but not the shared folder.
The folder is
/home/william/shared
The only way I can get it to work is if I change the permissions of the folder /home/william to allow Others to access files.
I need to share some files from my Ubuntu 10.10 box to others on my home network so I created a shared folder, right-clicked it and chose "Sharing Options", chose "Share This Folder" and then I was told that additional software is needed to enable sharing. I agreed and software was downloaded and installed. But when I clicked "Create Share" button and told Nautilus to automatically add permissions for others to access my folder, I was slapped with an error message saying "Failed to execute child process "testparm" (no such file or directory).
So how to proceed and get sharing working again? I installed Samba afterwards via Synaptic and assigned the folder for sharing, but I don't see the special "arrows-both-ways" sign for this folder.
I have an ubuntu server set up in which i would like my shared media directory to be accessable with multiple usernames / passwords because I use my admisistrator username and password for samba as well, but I do not want to give out that password to all clients in my house. And, I would like to have write permissions but keep other users to read only. Is this possible or do i need to just make one separate username / password for samba sharing?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a number of diskless hosts which are to bootth PXE and mount their root filesystem on an NFS share. Most of the NFS share will be common to to all of the diskless hosts. No problem with that part.I also need part of the NFS shared filesystem to be unique to each individual host. The only difference between the hosts is the ethernet MAC. I use it in the DHCP server to key a specific unique IP to each host. I would like to be able to use either the MAC, or the IP, or any other unique identifier that can be derived very early in the boot process to access a filesystem or directory that is unique to each diskless host.
I need/want to do this because I need/want to isolate all of the system maintenance to one small part of the boot host. Modifying the hardware (these are VME CPUs) in any way is not an option; they must be field swappable, with all maintenance isolated to the boot host(s).I know I could run ifconfig and parse its output to derive an IP &/or MAC, but that seems a bit kludgey and fragile. The DHCP server is presently assigning IPs. I know I can arrange to pass a unique option value via the DHCP server, but don't know if or how this can be retrieved on the diskless nodes. I am presently passing the 'root=' kernel argument from the bootloader, but I don't think there is any way to pass other filesystem information using that mechanism.
I know I can pass some kernel arguments from the bootloader, but there doesn't seem to be any generic message that can be retrieved in userspace as part of the boot process. I've scanned around in the /proc filesystem, looking for the IP or anything else that seems to uniquely identify the host, but don't see anything there, either. The init process has not yet been cast in stone, but is very likely to be a BusyBox built-in

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Centos 5.2, and I installed all of the available gnome and gnome development libraries available via the "add software" menu item. Still, when running some programs, I get the following error message:
"error while loading shared libraries: libzvt.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
If I understood it correctly, libzvt.so.2 is part of some gnome libs... where to find and how to install them?
I want to know that is there any way to peep inside the shared object and see its code ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a non-sudo account on a shared host. I want to be able to run the git-core for version control.
I have another server that I am using for the git-repo.
How can I install a version of git inside of my user folder and execute that. I have shell access and the server is CentOS/Redhat/Fedora.
I have created an application that has a executable program that loads in a shared object
the shared object loads in another shared object
both of these shared object I have created
For debugging I have been printf'in data to determine what is going on
I now have some odd memory issue, and need a bit more control over debugging...
I have one workspace set up and under my exectuable(will call maintest from now on) I have two items in my link libraries under project build options being soA and soB (so A is the shared object that maintest uses, soB is the SO that soA uses) I also have linker options pthread and ldl
At the beginning of my maintest I do my dlsym and load in each function that I will be using
I always run my program using maintest, because when I have one of the SO as the startup project(turns bold) and try to run it gives me "You must select a host application to run a library"
I tried to set up this host library, i Go to Menu->Project->SetProgramArguments and change the Host Application to the debug version of my maintest
I then hit OK and try to run again but I get the same error: "You must select a host application to run a library"
If I get this part working - which I need help doing, is tehre other steps that need to be taken to debug the so's? or will this make it so when i hit f8 it will run.
