I have a non-sudo account on a shared host. I want to be able to run the git-core for version control.
I have another server that I am using for the git-repo.
How can I install a version of git inside of my user folder and execute that. I have shell access and the server is CentOS/Redhat/Fedora.
Ive been asked to investigate presenting the same SAN LUN to two or more RHEL5 hosts. The hosts are providing independent applications so theyre not clusters from an application perspective. The shared storage location would be used as a common area for imports/exports. Were hoping to reduce file transfer times between the hosts by eliminating the need to copy the files between two storage locations. Some of our hosts run Advanced Server and some are standard. Is there a file system that I can use that will allow multi-host access without running advanced server with clustering services on all hosts?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am brand new to the world of Ubuntu 10.10. I have an acer revo 1600 that was running XP until this weekend, when it crashed. I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my machine, and cannot get it to find my Hiro H50191 (which runs on realtek drivers) wireless usb. I run strictly wireless, with no way to run an ethernet cable directly into the computer, unless i can somehow use my shared network off of an old Dell laptop running XP.

I am moving some websites from a shared host to a newly configured Xen based VPS with Ubuntu 10.04. A steep learning curve but I am getting there! I have a couple of sites installed on the new server and want to test them out, from what I understand I should be able to edit /etc/hosts on my desktop computer (running Ubuntu 10.04) which should automatically redirect my browser to the new server. But it doesn't seem to work.
This is what I appended to the /etc/hosts file:
12.34.56.78 www.xxxx.com
I thought that this should send any requests for www.xxxx.com to 12.34.56.78? Some googling indicated that the browsers I am using may be using DNS caching, ignoring the hosts file. I've tried clearing the cache with Chromium 7.0.517.44 (64615) and Firefox 3.6.12, and even installed a plugin in Firefox to block DNS caching.

I have been going through many solutions but none of them worked out. I am able to keep the required folders in Shared Folders making them Auto-Mount and Permanent. I tried to install Guest Additions from Devices, but I am not sure how to install the Guest-Additions software in Fedora. how to proceed so that I can access files in my shared folder.

If I install Ubuntu Desktop to my local machine is it possible for me to administer the server using Ubuntu Desktop (using the GUI)? I connect to the net over ADSL. Any guides/advice for setting up Ubuntu as a web/mail/ftp with a key focus on keeping to secure? I know how to install LAMP but as I have root I need to learn a little more than I did when I was on a shared host.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have found that there are certain things on the web that I need to print, that simply refuse to work under linux. I have a samba printer server on one of my Slackware boxes and an M$ XP vm under Vbox that can access the server and see the printer. The only problem that I have is that it expects to download a driver from the server which isn't available and the HP driver installer won't install if it doesn't detect the printer. Short of relocating the printer to install the driver, does anyone know how to get the driver installed on the XP host? This is so much easier with my Slack boxes and CUPS!
View 2 Replies View RelatedUpgraded to Fedora 12 (reinstall), and trying to recompile some software, but running into this error. So far as I recall, I did not have these issues going through the same process on Fedora 10.
This software required changing to gcc v4.1.2, and jdk 1.6.0_10 for proper compiling.
Did some research, and tried these things so far:
1. Disabled SELinux in the configuration file, /etc/selinux/conf
2. Added lib to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH
3. Searched for LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to no avail anywhere in this software, which appears to be a problem at times with other software and is commented out to fix this issue.
Here is my current LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
I have two servers, one has an empty / and the other has a subdirectory with a large number (4 gig) with many, many files. I need a way to transfer the files en masse from the server with the large number of files to the one that is essentially blank.I don't have space on the used host to simply gzip all the files. I've googled this and see that there may be some combination of tar and/or gzip that will let me do this with some sort of redirection.
I really need and example line of how this can be accomplished. If my explanation seems rather sparse, I can supply more details.
I setup my old laptop for my mom with F13 and have sshd running. My dad set up their DD-WRT router so that it's forwarding port 22 to the laptop's ip address. Yet, I get "No route to host" when I try and ssh in from my house. Is there anything that would be preventing F13 from accepting the SSH connection?

Unfortunately I can't ssh back into the server anymore! It replies back with No route not host. Now my questions are. First of all how do I change it back into the previous setting? Secondly, can I do this remotely since the server is in another place and I don't have access to it right now or do I have to go there and sit behind it and play around with it there?

I have a quad cpu with 8gb ram running SUSE 10 sp2 on a raid 5 XEN host server. I have created a 250 gb partition GWMAIL in the extended partition to be the disk space for the first virtual machine OES sp1 with groupwise 8.0. I have downloaded the OS .iso's to the desktop of the host server to use for installation. When I begin to install, it hangs for 5 to 10 minutes then gives me an out of space error.

There's no error to compile that, this library seems to be compiled correctly, but using the "nm" command the Aso.so functions appear with "U" of undefined. Trying to build an executable using the Bso.so library, I got this error: /lib/../lib/libBso.so: undefined reference to `foo(int, int, int)' I think that to solve this problem it's only link the Aso.so with the .o files generated at the compilation phase of my Bso. Using the "ldd" command I'm able to see that Bso.so depends on Aso.so, so what am I missing?
I have an application consisting of different processes and all these processes are linked to shared libraries. I start the application (spawn all the different processes) as say user1. Now with the application up, if I run a process p1, the process gets activated and works. However, if I start the same process p1 as a different user, say user2, which is completely different from user1 the process complains of
"error while loading shared libraries:...."
I set LD_RUN_PATH both in compile and runtime environment. LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set correctly in both places.
All the above works if I set the absolute path of the required shared libraries in /etc/ld.so.conf file and rebuild the /etc/ld.so.cache
Alright, just loaded a fresh copy of OpenSuSE 11.3 x64, went to update manager and let it update, came back and computer was shut down. After booting it back up, I cannot update any software, nor run any commands.

View 1 Replies View RelatedInstalled Skype but it wont launch. Running the latest Opensuse Gnome. Ive uninstalled it and reinstalled several times but always with the same error. When I try to run it from terminal I get this:

just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and installed the flightgear package and the fgfs-base package. I ran fgfs from a terminal and got this error:
