Fedora Networking :: Eth0 Connection Failed - Device Not Managed By NetworkManager

Aug 10, 2010

Yesterday I did an upgrade and today my box is unable to connect to the internet.

I have tried another cable, it didn't help.

Basically NetworkManager does not connect eth0 to the network, if I try to run ifup from the command line I get:

Code:

I can see in network configuration settings, that the device has been correctly detected and eth0 interface is correctly activated, yet when I try to uncheck the box manage by NetworkManager and start it manually, it tells me that the cable is disconnected... I've tried two different cables, different ports on my router - no help.

Ubuntu :: No Internet Connection Unless Run Command In Terminal - Sudo Dhclient Eth0

Feb 21, 2011

Running 10.04. For some reason, starting today, I have no internet connection unless I run this command in terminal - sudo dhclient eth0. I have a hard wired ethernet connection on a Desktop PC with a static IP address (there are a number of devices in the house) and it has been running 100% for months and months. Why suddenly do I have to enter this command to get connection? When I switch on I get a connection in that when I click on the Top Panel icon and right click Connection Information it tells me I have an active connection to my router on the normal IP address. I cannot ping the router and Firefox says Server not found. After sudo dhclient eth0 everything works - what has happened since yesterday evening and this morning to stop what has been 100% for months?

General :: Lost Connection - Cannot Activate Eth0 / What Happened?

Jun 16, 2010

I am running fedora vm under XP host and using NAT connection to the Internet. It usually works fine, but some time the connection is just lost. I went menu System->Admin->Network and see the interface eth0, but I cannot activate or deactivate. The status is inactive. (when the connect works, the status is active). so I try "ifdown eth0" and "ifup eth0" command, and got

"Error: Connection activation failed: Device not managed by NetowrkManger

The menu System->Admin->Network device control show no interface.

I am not sure what happened.

Ubuntu Networking :: Lost Eth0 After Installing VPN

Jun 15, 2011

I wanted to try to install one of those public VPN services in order to try a software program. I setup a VPN for a service that is located in the UK. I successfully installed the VPN that just required me to use their gateway address and they also supplied the username/password. All I did was edit the connections from the Ubuntu Network Manager to add the VPN. After rebooting I no longer have my wired "eth0" connection listed and the Network Manager shows a red X.

I use a DSL service and my computer is directly connected to the router. I am using Ubuntu Natty 11.04. I read where you may have to edit the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules because it may cause an entry of eth1 instead of eth0. My file still shows eth0. I have also deleted the contents of that file and rebooted, as suggested in other posts, and eth0 is in the file, but still does not show in my Network Manager.

If I type in terminal: sudo ifconfig | grep eth, I get an output of:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr [my mac address]
Going to Whois shows my IP address as that from my local ISP. Clicking on Network Manager > Connection Information, I receive a window that states : "No valid active connections found". Obviously, I am connected to the Internet. Is there a way to restore my eth0 connection?

Fedora Networking :: Can't Enable System Connection In KDE NetworkManager?

May 25, 2011

I'm using Fedora 15 with KDE, and in the NetworkManager settings I can't set my Ethernet connection to be a System Connection. The box is greyed out. I assume only root can enable this option, but GUI apps typically ask for an administrator password. I did add my user to the "Administrator" group when I installed and I can use sudo and all that.

General :: Stop And Restart Ethernet Connection Ubuntu 9.10 - Ignoring Unknown Interface Eth0=eth0

Mar 8, 2010

If I uncheck and recheck "Enable Networking" in the Network Manager Applet 0.7.996 I would expect the wired network to disconnect (which it does) and reconnect (which it does NOT). So I tried sudo ifdown eth0 and got

Quote:

Ignoring unknown interface eth0=eth0.

ifconfig tells me

Quote:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:25:64:e8:18:2c
inet addr:192.168.0.112 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::225:64ff:fee8:182c/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

[code]....

so I am at a loss. How do I stop and restart the network interface short of rebooting the machine?

After some wonderful days with fedora with my CDMA mobile internet connection (the only connection where I live) NetworkManager can't connect anymore.

I tried to delete the settings and rewrite them without success.

I have A Novatel Ovation U720 CDMA/EDVO USB modem.

I can connect with wnXP and kubuntu, but can't connect with fedora anymore.

I wish to make the definitive move from kubuntu to fedora... but I should wait.

Ubuntu Networking :: Gray - Apply - Button In NetworkManager Openvpn Connection Window

I installed all the necessary packages for the networkmanager-openvpn function to function. The openvpn-connection-setting are successfully imported into the networkmanger via the conf file but the apply button is grayed out, so that actually saving and using the connection isn't possible? Does anyone know, where the problem is? It's a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 after the upgrade from 10.04 sent the networkmanger down the drain.

Fedora Networking :: 11 With 4965agn - Configure Wireless Connection Using NetworkManager Right After Booting Up

Jun 13, 2009

The symptom is that NetworkManager repeatedly ask for password to connect to my AP.My AP is secured with WPA-PKI. The problem even happens with Fedora 11 live cd if I'm not quickly configure wireless connection using NetworkManager right after Fedora completes booting up. It means if I promptly configure wireless connection, i'm still able to access Internet. Same thing happens for the first boot of Fedora from hdd. For the second boot or when I dont quickly configure wireless connection when system finished booting up, NetworkManger repeatedly asks for password for AP.

I did try several approaches posted in this forum but problem still persisted. Some of approaches I tried are:

I'm getting rather fed up with this Network Manager applet on Ubuntu and its seemingly erratic behavior.I often use my laptop for things like dhcp server to do pxe boot on other machines for netboot installs and other stuff. Often I have to set static address on eth0 etc.I know how to set a static address for eth0 by editing /etc/network/interfaces and all that good stuff, but when I click on the Network Manager applet, it says 'Wired Network - not managed'.I may have deleted it for some reason, but why does it no longer appear, even though eth0 is working?I've also found in the past that changes to interfaces in the Network Manager, such as giving eth0 a static address, do not seem to stick?

Debian Configuration :: Always Need To Run Dhclient Manually For Connection

Aug 9, 2015

My network configuration is in a weird situation, that I always need to run dhclient manually each time after a network connection is established. When my computer connects to a router, sometimes it won't get a valid IP, and it uses an automatically generated fake Internet IP. In this situation, it won't connect to the Internet at all. Sometimes it get a valid local network IP, but still cannot connect to WAN, and could only connect to my router's address (both through ping and through router's management webpage). In both situation, it can be solved by a simple dhclient run.

This is my /etc/network/interfaces file:

Code: Select all# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

and this is my /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf:

Code: Select all[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile
dhcp=dhclient
#no-auto-default=FE:50:52:BE:46:4C,

Ubuntu Networking :: Sharing Internet/LAN Eth0 Connection Via Wi-fi Ad-hoc Network

Dec 1, 2010

I've got access to my LAN and the Internet via my wired ethernet connection. I'd like to share that access with my iPod Touch (device shouldn't really matter) via an Ad-hoc wi-fi network.

This tutorial in the docs seems to describe the right setup but is very out of date (7.04). Instead I found this tutorial and followed it to create the Ad-hoc wireless network. I was able to connect my touch to the resulting ad-hoc network without a problem, but I didn't have LAN/Internet access. What's the next step to get the clients on the ad-hoc network out to the Internet?I found this page in the docs that says I'd need to install dnsmasq-base and uninstalling dnsmasq. I checked and dnsmasq-base is already installed but dnsmasq is not. I do have dnsmasq in /usr/sbin but the package description makes it sound like this should come with dnsmasq. Is the page out of date? Will uninstalling dnsmasq cause other problems?

Fedora :: FC12 - DHClient Breaks My Internet Connection

Mar 17, 2010

Latest FC12 update included dhclient-4.1.1-9.fc12 which fails to configure eth0 after restarting the computer. Had to remove/downgrade to 4.1.0* (and reinstall dracut and NetworkManager(-glib)). There is no config file in /etc/dhcp/dhclient.d so I don't know how to reset dhcp/eth0 to connect. Thought some one smarter than me might have noticed this by now and worked out a solution. Can't tell that anything in Bugzilla sounds like my problem. Might only be x86_64 or KDE-4.4 problem as my 32-bit Gnome install is not affected. Easy enough to grab the rpms, just annoying. Still haven't learned how to keep a package at version x.x with Fedora yet but that's another topic.

Now, for some reason after the upgrade it has to be manually enabled at every boot - even though when I go the Network tool, Ethernet Device > General tab - "Activate device when computer starts" is checked.

At every boot time it is inactive.

In all the ifcft-eth0 files, the ONBOOT parameter is set to "yes".

Ubuntu Networking :: Check The Network Connection Applet, It Display Active Information Of Eth0?

Jun 7, 2010

I have a question regarding the configuration of Network Connection. My wired connection is fine right now and when I check the network connection applet, it display active information of eth0. However, when I click the Configure button, the Network Connection window appears but there's nothing in the Wired panel. Should there be a eth0 in that panel? I remember I had one before, but after I messed with some configuration of VPN, my network became unstable and I remove the Network Manager to try to solve the problem. Since then, there's nothing in my Network Connection window, though I can still connect to my router with eth0. Now even after I reinstalled the Network Manager, I still don't get anything.

Fedora Networking :: Bridged Networking And NetworkManager - No Network Connection Because Network Isn't Managed

But when I try to use NetworkManager it says that I have no network connection because the network isn't managed, (I set the settings in ifcfg-br0 and ifcfg-eth0 to be managed)

The real problem is that now I can't use my VPN connections (I have many) in NetworkManager.

Is there a way to have both of these pieces of functionality?

I am using FC14
